Question From Guest on changing driver door mirror

2004
GMC Yukon SLT
5.3L V8 flexfuel

The mirror on my yukon was shattered. I just got a new one (glass only) and need to install it into the existing housing. How do i remove the cap, without damaging anythig? Then is there any special way to put the new mirror on? or does it just clip? This is a motorized unit with turn signal. Thanks for any help.

Response From flgmtech1 Top Rated Answer

  1. Adjust the mirror face as shown in the picture to obtain access to the mirror face retention clips.
  2. Position a flat-bladed tool between the back side of the mirror face and the adjuster mechanism as shown in the picture
  3. Place the blade of the tool between the gasket (1) and the adjuster mechanism (2).
  4. Slightly twist the blade of the tool while gently pulling the mirror face towards you in order to release the retainers (3).
  5. With the mirror face in hand, disconnect the electrical connectors.
  6. Remove the mirror face from the mirror housing.
  7. Inspect the adjuster mechanism for damage.

installation
  1. Inspect the components for any damage. Ensure that the mirror face has all the retention clips in place.
  2. Plug in the electrical connectors to the back of the mirror.
  3. Align the mirror face retention clips with the adjuster mechanism
  4. Gently press the mirror back into the adjuster mechanism with the palm of the hand on the center of the glass until it locks into place.
  5. Inspect the operation of the mirror.

Response From Guest

Would the same instructions work if I were to replace a 2000 F150 Lariat power mirror?

Response From flgmtech1

Sorry, I am not sure, I have never replaced one on a Ford. I ma sure there are others here who may have that would be better able to answer that question.

Response From way2old

And the answer is Yep. Same as above. Just look closely to be sure you see the little clips.

Response From flgmtech1

sorry pictures did not come uP?

wing mirror adhesive

Question From Shashie on wing mirror adhesive

Can anyone recommend an adhesive to stick my wing mirror in place? I bought sticky pads from Halfords but they were useless and the mirror vibrates as I'm going along. I've got it held in place with back tape on either side. Should I have stuck the new mirror on top of the old one? My car is an old Toyota Previa people carrier, P reg.

Response From dmac0923 Top Rated Answer

are you replacing the entire mirror glass? or getting one of those convex spot mirrors??? for the spot mirrors 3M makes a body molding double sided tape that is dam near impossible to remove once installed to a clean surface.

if your doing the entire mirror because the old glass broke, you might have to get the complete assembly.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Just thoughts on this: Can you tell if the wobble is the mirror to base or the base itself from perhaps what broke the original one? Knowing that would help.

The double stick tapes seem to work better when used over just cracked original glass. I still don't like that so smash off old broken ones completely which leaves an uneven surface of old glue which needs to be razor bladed off like with a paint scraper type.

Then I use a combo of the double stick cut to smaller squares in good spots for support AND use silicone adhesive (just dots of it) which will last longer when fully cured that double stick tape but you need something till the glue cures to hold it as mentioned,

Question From sen on driver side mirror

ford focus

5 speed manual
48,000 miles

i knocked the driver-side mirror off. the electronics still work and the mirror is not broken either. is this an easy repair and can i purchase just the mount?

any help would be grand,

thanks

Response From way2old Top Rated Answer

You need to buy the entire mirror. You need to remove the door panel and you will see some holes in the door. Inside these holes will be the screws that hold the mirror assembly on. Disconnect wiring and unbolt mirror. Replace with new.

Response From Guest

thanks for the help

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Ouch! Hope it's available aftermarket or used. Some of those are so expensive they can cause instant heart failure!

Side view mirror 2003 Dodge caravan

Question From jjohnston007 on Side view mirror 2003 Dodge caravan

How does one replace the reflective mirror surface on a 2003 Dodge caravan side view mirror (driver side), I have the part but I am puzzled as how to remove and replace the mirror surface.

Response From steve01832

An auto glass adhesive is usually used to glue the glass to the plastic. I have seen the rear view mirror adhesive work on these.

Steve

Response From Guest

So Steve 01832,
should I just brake off the remaining reflective surface and glue the new mirror into place.

Response From steve01832

Be very careful you don't crack the plastic piece. You may want to wear gloves also. I usually don't advise replacing the mirrored glass. I usually replace the entire mirror. I've found that the aftermarket adhesives tend not to hold the glass longterm.

Help me fixing my left mirror

Question From hc2160 on Help me fixing my left mirror

Hello

I have Toyota Corolla 2002, and I recently lost my left side mirror and here is how it looks like it.

I initially called several places to get it fixed, but it seems way too much so I am thinking about fix it by myself. It looks like my mirror is the only thing gone (panel and everything is there).
I was curious if I can just buy a left mirror part (such as link deleted), and do the similar fix as link deleted? Would it be okay or is it too dangerous to attach the mirror like that (like attaching the mirror by adhesive pad...would it be strong enough to do so)?
Do I need to completely change the left mirror (including the shell like link deleted
Could you please help me/advice me on what to do?
Thank you very much

Sincerely,

Response From kev2

try a GOOGLE search*..... 30 dollar range ? what is the problem?

*"Toyota Corolla 2002 driver side mirror"

Response From hc2160 Top Rated Answer

I mean I am curious if I need to replace the complete left mirror (including shell) or if I can just put a mirror only (mirror itself with adhesive pad or so in that panel)?
I am only missing a mirror in there but I am quiet sure by putting a glue/adhesive pad is strong or safety enough to do so.
Thanks

Response From kev2

the adhesive often comes with replacement glass - if not ask auto store part clerk for a recommendation - most likely a clear silicone should do it.

Response From hc2160

Ok Thank you so much,

So in my case (as you see on the picture from the first post), I don't have to really replace the entire shell. I can just put the mirror (with appropriate adhesive/silicon pad) in panel.
That should be okay, right? My biggest concern was if adhesive pad/silicon or whatever gluing the mirror and the panel is safe enough. I mean I don't want the mirror come off while I am driving.

Thanks again!

Response From Hammer Time

You're assuming that they actually sell just the glass. Some cars they do and some cars they don't especially if it's a heated mirror..

Response From hc2160

Thanks for the reply.
I am so new to all so I am not sure what it means for heated vs non-heated.
When you say non-heated, that means I can attach the glass using adhesive pad?
If it is heated, then I need to buy a complete part?

Here is my old broken mirror look like

I am not sure what is that black tape or thing for...
Please let me know what I need to do.
Thanks for all your help again!

Response From Hammer Time

No, some mirrors have electric heaters built into the glass to help keep the glass clear.

Response From hc2160

Oh That,
I am not sure if my car has that feature.
If so, then I should buy a mirror part with heated pad. If not, I should buy a mirror with non-heated, right?
According to that pic, do you think my original mirror is heated?

Thanks for all your help again!

Response From Hammer Time

It usually states it on the glass. When you go to the dealer bring your VIN number and they can tell you what you have.
