Here is the procedure......
REPLACEMENT - UPPER EXTENSION

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

  1. Open the front door.

  1. Release the upper extension by pulling outward on the front edge in order to release the upper retainer clips.
  2. Remove the upper extension from the trim panel by lifting up and out.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

  1. Position the lower retainer to the trim panel.
  2. Align the upper retainer clips to the door frame.
  3. Press inward on the upper extension until the clips fully engage securing the panel to the door.

MIRROR REPLACEMENT - POWER

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
  1. Remove the trim panel upper extension.

  1. Remove the insulator, if equipped.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector.

  1. Remove the nuts securing the outside mirror to the door.
  2. Remove the mirror from the door.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

  1. Install the outside mirror to the door. Press the mirror into place.

  1. Connect the electrical connector.
  2. Install the nuts in order to secure the outside mirror to the door. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. Tighten the outside mirror nuts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
  3. Install the insulator, if equipped.
  4. Install the trim panel upper extension.
Hope this helps..........................

Question From ktownbob on Ford Focus Outside Mirrors

I have a 2013 Ford Focus. The outside rearview mirrors are NOT heated. Can they be replaced with heated mirrors?

Response From Discretesignals

The vehicle is too new to give you an answer. We don't have service information as of yet on it. You might want to swing into your dealer and ask them.

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Just curious how much you might even want to pay if it's practical at all? Probably nasty expensive. Whole different vehicle and purpose I don't have them and about to carry that non evaporating windshield washer fluid (Prestone makes it) in a spray bottle.

Looks like this - works great for windshields anyway...........
Note - not the blue stuff,

Power Mirrors...No one else has this problem

Question From lane99 on Power Mirrors...No one else has this problem

1989 Toyota Cressida, 150,000 m

Hi...searching the forums I see a lot of people who can't get their power mirrors to start working. But, my problem: I can't get them to STOP...

As I approached the car tonight I heard a loud "click, click, click" sound. To my surprise, the motor which moves the passenger side view mirror is running and I can't get it to stop. The car engine is not turned on, but the mirror keeps trying to adjust itself, nonetheless.

Once I noticed this, I did start and stop the engine. But the mirror motor keeps running. I disconnected, and reconnected the car battery.
When I reconnected it, the mirror motor started again. So I disconnected the battery again, and that's how I've left it for now.

Has anyone run across such a problem before? A sudden short circuit, perhaps? I wonder what I can do?

Response From way2old

Try unplugging the switch. It is possible the switch has shorted causing the problem.

Response From lane99

Thanks alot, Way2 and Tom...

An update:
-connected the battery this morning. So far the mirror motor did not come back on (touch wood). Leaving well enough alone, I didn't fiddle with the joystick now. I adjusted the mirrors by hand (carefully) and I'll just leave them be for now. Yes, it is a single joystick that operates both power side view mirrors (and it operated the other side view mirror without incident when this problem was happening).

-If the trouble starts again, I'll try unplugging the switch. Any idea how to do that?

Interesting note: Yesterday when I noticed the mirror motor was running, I adjusted the joystick in every direction to see if I could get the motor to stop. Found if I manually held the joystick in a certain direction (from which it would return to it's resting setting if I didn't hold it) the mirror motor DID stop.

Furthermore, if I turned the ignition key to the "On" position, the mirror motor STOPPED. Then I when I turned the key to the "Off" postion, the mirror motor started cycling again. Pretty odd, I thought.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Good chance a replacement "joy stick" would end the chance of the problem happening again. I don't know of it as common but it might be?

T

Response From lane99

At some point during the night, the problem reoccured. When I went out to the car this morning the mirror motor was running again.

I wonder how/from where I can unplug the switch?

Response From lane99

Similar. Although it's all one piece (like the lower bottom control on your pic). The joystick twists L - OFF - R. And then can be moved N-S-E-W to adjust the position of the mirror.

I will take a close look tonight to see if I can change the switch myself.

Thanks so much, T.

The good news is it's just $17.99 at Conquest auto. Copyrighted pic by them is shown here........and link is....

&imgrefurl=http://www.conquestauto.com/servlet/the-2249/2000-dsh-2002-Ford-Expedition-and/Detail&usg=__zfgI3Xfr3_M74BJoTj923s-7_uU=&h=278&w=228&sz=18&hl=en&start=11&sig2=1jTnQDs8Ql_5KGRDJa2n7A&tbnid=qVMDjqnv91n1aM:&tbnh=114&tbnw=93&ei=EHRrSfOdNY70sAO7q_SVAw&prev=/images%3Fq%3D89%2Btoyota%2Bpower%2Bmirror%2Bswitch%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG

Hope that shows. If it is that style it may just pry up (carefully!) with a putty knife type action - go easy and plug may come up with it - otherwise you may need to remove a panel or whole panel to get at the plug,

T

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Hmmm? Try selecting the "joy stick" or whatever control is used to the other mirror to see if it does the same to it. In that old a car it may be that joy stick itself stuck hopelessly and unplugging it would be my choice and just set the mirrors manually (AYOR) most just push to set but be careful as they could crack the glass,

Question From sen on driver side mirror

ford focus
2003
5 speed manual
48,000 miles

i knocked the driver-side mirror off. the electronics still work and the mirror is not broken either. is this an easy repair and can i purchase just the mount?

any help would be grand,

thanks

Response From way2old Top Rated Answer

You need to buy the entire mirror. You need to remove the door panel and you will see some holes in the door. Inside these holes will be the screws that hold the mirror assembly on. Disconnect wiring and unbolt mirror. Replace with new.

Response From Guest

thanks for the help

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Ouch! Hope it's available aftermarket or used. Some of those are so expensive they can cause instant heart failure!

Question From jjohnston007 on Side view mirror 2003 Dodge caravan

How does one replace the reflective mirror surface on a 2003 Dodge caravan side view mirror (driver side), I have the part but I am puzzled as how to remove and replace the mirror surface.

Response From steve01832

An auto glass adhesive is usually used to glue the glass to the plastic. I have seen the rear view mirror adhesive work on these.

Steve

Response From Guest

So Steve 01832,
should I just brake off the remaining reflective surface and glue the new mirror into place.

Response From steve01832

Be very careful you don't crack the plastic piece. You may want to wear gloves also. I usually don't advise replacing the mirrored glass. I usually replace the entire mirror. I've found that the aftermarket adhesives tend not to hold the glass longterm.

Steve

Response From jjohnston007 Top Rated Answer

Steve, thanks for the tips.
