  • Stage 2 Cerametallic clutches are designed to handle the abuse of high power modified engines. Our Cerametallic friction material can handle much more abuse than stock type disc assemblies without slipping and fading. The THICK discs have better heat capacity and therefore better durability in demanding applications. Even with the THICK disc, our three and four puck designs typically have less inertia than a stock disc and work well for street, rally and track use.

All of our Stage 1 clutch discs have spring center dampers to reduce drivetrain shock and provide smooth clutch engagement.

2009 Nissan Altima Rough Idle

Question From Tom64 on 2009 Nissan Altima Rough Idle

I have a 2009 Nissan Altima 2.5..Just recently it started idling very rough when in drive at low rpm, like when stopped in traffic or at a light. The problem is not there when car is in Park, Neutral, or Reverse.
Is this a sign that the throttle position is going bad ?

Thanks - Tom

Response From Sidom

An 09 is still fairly new but depending on the mileage, if it's at or over 100k it might be a good idea to rule out hardened motor mounts as a problem...

Just jack up the engine with a floor jack & block of wood, just enough to get the engine off the mounts, don't pick up the car this way. If the rough idle problem goes away with the engine supported then you have some bad motor mounts....

Response From Hammer Time

No, not really. Is there any check engine light coming on ever?

Response From Hammer Time

Go get the codes read and post the numbers here.

Response From Tom64 Top Rated Answer

Had the codes read.."P0744" - "Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Intermittent"

Took it to two diferent places, got the same code both times.

But - I drove the car at least 40 miles today, in heavy traffic - and it ran great, no rough idle, my wife drove it home from work,
and the symptoms are gone..

Any idea's ?? Thanks in advance..

Response From Hammer Time

That code has nothing to do with engine operation. It's an overdrive code for the transmission.

Response From Discretesignals

Could be an engine mount grounding out.

Response From Tom64

OK..The "Service Engine Soon" light came on today..

Response From Tom64

No - there's no check engine light.

1999 Nissan Altima, 4 cyl, automatic... No D3

Showing 8 out of 8 Posts
Question From ken M on 1999 Nissan Altima, 4 cyl, automatic... No D3

Line to trans cooler came off, daughter drove about one mile before pulling over. Reattached line, refilled. Ran thru all the gears. Initially had nothing in reverese and D2, now have D1, D2 and reverse. Shifting manually it goes D1 to D2 but will not shift to D3.
Is it possible there is air trapped in the valve body, or is a clutch pack fried?

Thanks!

Response From gsferraro

Hello,
Question, if you put this car in drive, does it make a 1-2 shift and then rev out when it should shift into 3rd? Gary

Response From ken M

No noticeable engine slip in any gear. Trans won't shift D2 to D3.

Response From gsferraro

Ok, so this shifts 1-2-3-4 when selector is in drive with no problem? When its in manual mode it wont shift 2-3, does it just seem like it stays in 2nd? Gary
Any check engine light on? are there any codes present in the trans? Gary

Response From ken M Top Rated Answer

Selector in drive...shifts 1-2, stops shifting after that.
Manual shift is 1-2, no shifting when selecting drive.
Not sure if this is a over drive trans or not.
No lights on, haven't checked for codes.

Thank you for responding! It is appreciated!
Ken

Response From gsferraro

Does it seem like it just stays in 2nd after the 1-2 shift? does it seem like it attempts to go into 3rd

Response From ken M

There is no signs of attempted shifting past D2, either manually or with Drive selected.
Later this morning after snow clean up I'll test drive again to see if a complete cool down changes anything. I'll keep you posted.....

Response From gsferraro

Ok, the reason for the questions is, on this trans the 3rd clutch is the weak point of this trans. Gary

95 nissan altima stutters

Question From nissanlemon on 95 nissan altima stutters

this nissan has been stuttering when i stop and try to go again. once it gets past 15mph it seems to feel fine but then if i stop it stutters all over again. i do not hear any grinding in the transmission though. any ideas?

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Need more info - is this a trans or engine issue as best you can tell? Also, automatic or standard shift? If so, is playing with the clutch causing this and will it do it in neutral at idle with either trans?

01 nissan altima 5 speed no crank

Question From pritch84 on 01 nissan altima 5 speed no crank

Drove the car for about an hour got home parked it for about 30 minutes. Went back out to leave and it wouldn't crank. All lights and guages act normal when turn the key just no sound from starter. I checked all fuses did the relay dance and checked all points i could see with a dmm and a test light. All wires i could by myself check out. Took a remote start button and started the vehicle. Pulled the relay and checked the points koeo and had 2 grounds/ component points and 2 dead. If im right there should be one point thats power with koeo. I think. Does enyone have the schematics for the starter control circuit or know it well? Any help from this point would be great. Also i tryed to bypass the clutch switch by unpluging it and jumping the 2 points with a jumper wire.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

? You get noise from the starter or the solenoid ratcheting sound? That suggests a weak battery first or a lousy battery connection. If that's what you mean this probably would jump start with power from another source - jumper pack or another vehicle so you can test out the battery, charging system and so on.

Not sure what you checked at what relay? Going by what you said it did the relay dance whatever you meant like said a solenoid flutter which is on top of the starter,

T

Response From pritch84

Relay dance take a relay that works and switch with the slot in question.. The test i did was were the relay plugs in at the fuse block. The battery is good there was no click, flutter, etc at all when key was turned to start position. But qhen i used a jumper with a nonlatching button i got it to turn over and start with no problem. I connected to the control point of the solenoid and battery pos with the jumper.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

OK I think? Remote starters and there oh so common failures not my job and seems that is getting in the way if this in fact started with trigger wire jumped with power with key on "Run" position right at starter solenoid.

Understanding everyone's terms is always an issue. Yes swapping a relay know to work and not needed with one in question is a way to test if a suspect relay is in question or not without a lot of digging or diagnosing much more.

Unless I'm still misunderstanding you I suspect the remote start is causing a problem. If aftermarket I'd bet good bucks on it and not so thrilled with the whole idea of them from the get go with unattended vehicles and do understand how nice they could be also but wouldn't own one and if by chance bought a vehicle with one it would be permanently and perfectly removed - too much trouble IMO for any value.

Your call. I think remote starter has failed you. What type, factory or aftermarket will matter how you fix or remove it?

T

Response From pritch84

Sorry went i stated remote start button i ment the jumper type. This car is pretty much a base model. Not too many gadgets. Sorry about the lingo by profession im a class 8 tractor-trailer mechanic for the last few years.

Response From Hammer Time

Response From pritch84 Top Rated Answer

Ok so from this diagram the clutch interlock relay would be the "starter relay" and point one should have constant power atleast koeo right?

Response From Hammer Time

One of them definitely powers in "start" position and the other one isn't clear but definitely should have power in at least "start" position, maybe "on" also.
The clutch switch supplies trigger ground.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

HT -Your diagram just disappeared to my view? Seemed helpful for this if it can be put back, T

Response From Hammer Time

It's still there.

Response From pritch84

Ok ill look into it tomorrow morning when i get off work and get back with ya.

Response From pritch84

Ok got to try a couple things first i checked all terminals for the relay to figure out where they went. Then Ω out the terminal to the solenoid, that checked out good. Checked koeo, good voltage there. Then key on run position found good voltage. Only thing that i needed 2 people for was the control ground circuit for the clutch switch. So i made a remote relay and connected to direct ground and the car fired right up. So im going to try a new clutch switch soon and then if that dont fix it, it will be in the wiring. Thatnks all for getting me this far. Ill keep you posted on the final outcome

Response From pritch84

Ok done and driving. I didn't realize there was 2 switches on the clutch till i got up under the dash more. My problem was the clutch pedal gromit that triggers the switch. It decayed and fell out leaving a nice large hole to pass through. Went to advanced auto parts and picked up a pack of bolt bump stops found one that matched the original to get it back on the road till i can get ahold of the oem part.... Thanks to you all again for your help.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Glad you found it, fixed with one of those assortment packs and seems all set now so will close thread as solve. You may ask any moderator to re-open it upon request, T
