Question From rfrainman on chrysler town and country oil light and abs light on dash illuminate. Stopped car, restarted no warning lights.

2005 chrysler t&c 3.3L 70k miles. checked oil level, ok. Could it be oil pump?

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Any risk of real loss of oil pressure you should check it with a gauge on the engine. The lights may have an attitude but if oil pressure is truly low you'll lose the engine!

Response From rfrainman

Brought it in to mechanic. It was the oil pressure switch. Problem solved. Thanks.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Thanks for the report on the fix and glad that's all it was - yeah!

Question From ricardoji on loosing oil pressure

I have a 2007 chrysler 300c and im loosing oil pressure when it heats up and only at idle, does anyone have any advice or ideas?

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

First use a mechanical gauge to determine if your gauge is telling you the truth. If it actually is low, then start with trying a different brand of oil and if that doesn't help, you're probably looking at a bad oil pump.

Loosing engine power

Question From dolejaly on Loosing engine power

98 chrysler sebring 2.5 - Awhile ago I done a post about hitting a water hole w/ my car, well got past that dilemma..Now for the past couple of days I've had issues w/ the car having little power from a dead stop, once in shifted in drive it was ok..but I also have been leaking oil somewhere, (seeing more spots on the ground under the car)..The exhaust does sound louder over the past couple of weeks...I went to take my kids to school and it was really loosing power, it has a strong hesitant into shifting, also smell something hot as well...I will list some of the issues..

Exhaust louder
weakening of power from motor(on take off)
leaking more oil
smoke coming from motor (looks like lower engine)
When driving before the car would shift into 2nd and drive the rpm would read higher(almost 5)
Tranny fluid level and looks good...

Could the catalytic converter cause this issue or oil pump?

Response From dolejaly

In addition, just went out to chk a couple of things...there is a leak(quite a leak) to the front part of the motor(small puddle on garage floor)...It fires right up and sounds fine, just once in gear it bogs down and has very little power...

Response From Hammer Time

You have large puddles and smoke, yet your fluid levels are good? You need to go check the levels again and find out where that came from.

Response From dolejaly

I was just doing some online research and I read something that came close to my description of problem.."oil pressure sending unit"....I have always had problems since I've owned the car (2yrs) with the oil light coming off and on, was told that oil pump was fine and nothing to worry about...But, now I am reading that if that is going out that it will leak oil from it and cause the bogged out power from the car on a dead stop and long hesitents to shifting...Now could that be a possibility? I can not get it into a garage at this time, so I'm hoping I can narrow some things down and have my nephew help fix the problem or at least take a look at it.

After hitting the large water hole over a month ago, I feel that it may have caused some further issues w/ this car...

Response From Hammer Time

Don't ask what it can be until you can tell us what fluid you are losing.

Response From dolejaly

Its leaking motor oil towards the front part the motor(by where the location of the puddle is on my garage floor...)

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

There are tons of things that can leak oil in that area. You need to clean off all of the old thoroughly and then run the engine to see where it is originating from.

Response From dolejaly

I'm going t o have to start a new thread, my oil leak is the least of my problems..Trying to find out why it idles fine, but has no power once put in gear...

Response From Hammer Time

Fine, I'll close this one.

98 dodge intrepid timing and valve issues

Question From irockthisjoint on 98 dodge intrepid timing and valve issues

i have a 98 dodge intrepid 2.7L and i had a guy come over to help me replace the water pump and timing chain. after we took the timing chain off and replaced the water pump i noticed that he rotated the camshaft sprockets individually. it was rotating hard with a pop and clank type noise. i told him to stop and to leave. i got the new chain back on with all the marks on the chain and sprockets lined up according to the manual but now my question is "is there valve damage done since the sprockets were moved individually??? and if so how do i check??? please i need help so bad with this issue

Response From techforfree

Depends on if you feel you're a lucky man...lol...all kidding aside..pretty unlikely you caused any damage if the cam sprockets were only turned a tooth or 2..if the cam and the crank sprockets are now perfectly lined up ..and the chain tentioner was properly installed starting it up will tell you.But just a word of advise on those engines...take a real good look at the chain guides while you're in there..they were famous for cracking and causing the chain to jump off and ruining engines...good luck

Response From dougc426 Top Rated Answer

you have to make sure that the timing marks on the cam chains are lined up,Or you will bend every valve in the motor.make sure you are at top dead center with crank gear on oil pump mark.then you will have to undo the exhaust side of each cam reset tensioners and put the timing marks back on the chain and on the cams, then proceed with timming chain marks.I worked at chrysler for 38 + years and repaired thousands of motors,And the 2.7 liter is really not that hard to work on..best...Doug

Response From zmame

you will need to do a leak down test. Put the cylinder in question at TDC on compression stroke and listen for a air leak.. a proper leak down tester will show at what rate it's dropping. You may be able to get one from auto parts store borrow a tool program.

please don't double post.

Response From irockthisjoint

well i guess all the cylinders are in question. i guess the real question is "by turning both camshafts without turning the crankshaft will that cause valve or piston damage??? when the timing chain is back on and i turn the crankshaft bolt everything moves freely. im so confused

Response From Hammer Time

Yes, it will make contact with a piston if one or more are at TDC when the cams are rotated. The easiest way to find out is just see if it runs normal when your finished.

Response From zmame

I suppose it possible.. won't know till you do leak down or try and run it.. remember to crank by hand and re check your marks.

Response From irockthisjoint

i turned the engine over by hand like 6 or 7 times and all the marks lined up correctly. there was no resistance when i was turning it over. went around very smooth. it seems to be right, but i didnt want to put it all back together if there is some kind of damage. i have never done a leak down test so i dont know how to do that. would like to learn though. another question is do the timing chains on the camshafts have to line up a certain way???
