Hi! I have an '04 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart manual with a 2.4L engine, 140K miles. Last year I was driving somewhere and I lost my clutch pedal, it went all the way to the floor and the car died. We had it towed home and a mechanic friend fixed it for me. It's doing it again and he says it may be the fluid is low or I may need a new clutch master cylinder.

When I drive it, it does the same thing- once I get going, it drives ok for a bit till I have to downshift and put on the brake. Then the gearshift sticks and the car tries to die. I can restart it and pop the clutch to get going again for a few.
I know this is pretty vague, but I don't know exactly what my friend fixed last time, and he can't look at it until a week from now. If all I need to do is refill the brake fluid and it'll run till then, this would be awesome as I don't have money to take it in again. I'm checking the fluid levels tonight after work. Thanks!

Refilling the brake fluid likely won't help now. It has drawn air into the system. You need to stop driving it and get it repaired before someone gets hurt.

I have stopped driving it, thank you. As soon as the trouble started I parked it. I'd like to drive it again soon, which is why I'm here. :)

Then find and replace the leaking component and bleed the system and you'll be back in business.

I have a '93 Mitsubishi Eclipse and it starts and then immediately shuts off. We replaced the air filter, spark plugs, fuel filter, battery and checked the alternator. The only way it will stay running is if I have my foot on the gas...almost like a clutch..but its an automatic transmission. Any ideas???

Put new clutch master cylinder and new slave cylinder on and can not get the air to pump out of the lines, Any Suggestions ????

It's not easy to do at all. The bleeder is at the bottom and the air rises to the top. A pressure bleeder may help. I've also had some success by simply pumping the pedal continuously. The air eventually migrates out the top.

Did you bench bleed the master?


Bleeding master:
1. Connect a hose with a bottle to the bleeder screw.
2. Open the bleed nipple.

CAUTION: For bleeding, never "pump" the clutch pedal. This may cause an oil leak at the clutch cylinder.

3. Depress the clutch pedal slowly. Open the bleeder screw to let air and brake fluid out. Close the bleeder screw. Release the clutch pedal. Repeat until only brake fluid and no air comes out.
4. Check that the brake fluid reservoir level stays between "MAX" and "MIN" marks throughout the clutch bleeding process.

Clutch slave bleeding:

1. Remove the under cover.
2. Connect a hose with a bottle to the bleeder screw.
3. Open the bleed nipple.
4. Depress the clutch pedal slowly. Open the bleeder screw to let air and brake fluid out. Close the bleeder screw. Release the clutch pedal. Repeat until only brake fluid and no air comes out.

For the talon it was like $125 for parts and a buddy put it in for like $150 cause I have never done it. That was also like 6yrs ago so I don't know what you are looking at.Sorry.

It sounds like you make have more of a shifter or trans problem than a clutch problem. If you had a clutch issue, first gear would be impossible to get into and the higher gears would be easier.

Yes I cranks up the engine gets going when I hitt the gas, but no movement in any gears.
I was thinking timing belt, but that doesn't have anything to do with the movement of the vehicle in this model

If the engine cranks up, revs up and the car dosen't move, i'd be looking at the clutch.

Also while your checking your transmission fluid, inspect the CV axles. If you break an axle, the vehicle won't move.

The engine starts and revs up.
It's in the tranny.
Check the ATF fluid level.
