rear disc brake caliper will not retract

Question From Guest on rear disc brake caliper will not retract

98 Ford Mustang with rear disc brakes as I am changing pads and rotor and the caliper will not retract with a c-clamp trying to force back and even took put bleed screw and loosened brake lin connection.

Response From DanD Top Rated Answer

Here’s a picture of a very basic retracting/positioning tool that is used.

I had a lot more too say in this reply, about how people should do a little research on what they are about to attempt; especially when it comes to safety related items but I’ll leave it with just this.
You should have asked BEFORE you started fooling with your brakes.

Dan.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

In General: Rear disc brakes with a parking brake cable to the caliper don't just push back in as the caliper itself has the parking brake mechanism in it. They screw back in with some pressure on the piston to bottom out to make room for the new parts.

If no cable to caliper it uses a small drum type brake inside rotor that is not involved with retracting the piston for service brake,

Question From mark727 on ford mondeo caliper

can you tell me if a rear brake caliper from a 52 plate petrol mondeo will fit on a 52 plate tdci mondeo. thank's

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

I smell trouble already. Do you intend to do just one? Not a good move.

They don't sell that in the states so I'm lost to even check if they fit each other. Simple call to your parts store would tell you and if thinking about used for brakes parts that's a NO NO right away,

Question From rustyknut on clunk ford ka

help have got a problem with clunking noise not sure if front or rear passenger side hard to tell, it only occurs when you go over a sleeping policeman or a pot hole, level ground no problems, have been to 4 garages, no joy, all the usual been checked eg, engine mounts, suspension, ball joints, top brush, shocks even if jack was loose and spare wheel carrier. passed m.o.t. with this problem any suggestions please would be most grateful.

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

See if it shuts up if you drag the brakes. Caliper bushings and pads can make quite the noises.

What kind of car is this?

Question From pcmcmahon on 2003 Ford Explorer

My Explorer is making a shifting noise in the rear end when I brake or turn suddenly. It's almost like something is moving around though it is clearly coming from the exterior of the vehicle and not the cargo area. I was told that this could be my shocks, but I haven't had them checked yet as the ride of the vehicle has not changed. The brakes are still working properly. Other than the noise itself, nothing has changed in the way the vehicle handles. Any ideas?
Thank you.

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

You simply must check everything back there. Wheels tight, shocks, any strut bushings, stabilizer if used, brakes/calipers - all of it!

Question From adverttruth on Brake Trouble

1993 Ford Ranger, 6 cyl, 2WD

I just changed out the brake rotors, calipers and brake pads on my truck. I tried bleeding and servicing the brakes but they are still squishy, I can't figure out what is wrong. They tighten up when i pump them and the car is off, but when I turn it on they get squishy again. What do I do?

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

Go look at the brake calipers and tell me if the brake bleeder if above or below the line fitting.

Response From Discretesignals

How about the rear brakes?
