Im trying to get some on id of the parts below so i can replace them . I noticed 2 hoses or wires that were cut in half in the pic they go on the top of those 2 ends where u see no wires i have no idea what it does or how i go about asking for what wires i need they seem to just plug in there on top and seem to go under the area where the oil goes . Any help ? would be greatly appreciated .

SO i need spark plug wires? there is a set of 4 that are all connected then this second set of 4 . the motor seems to start and run fine . So i just replace these 2 wires with new ones?

No, it won't run fine. That's a 2.3 Ford engine that take 8 spark plugs. It needs all 8 to run right. Start with plugs and wires but there may be more to that then it appears.

Should you use it one more time for work? You said it runs fine now? How long has it been like this anyway and why if you know? If a long time already if any damage (not sure) was done it's done but I can't make the decision for you.

If it's smooth, no funny odor out exhaust, steady idle with smooth flow out tailpipe you are probably ok to use it for work AYOR.

There are plugs at the other end that about can't be so happy so expect more than just a wire set to make it right,

Im not sure how , long its been that way i only noticed it today . It looks like the 2 wires got stuck or cut off on a wheel in there . I never noticed the truck running any different . Its very old with over 150,000 miles on it i use it for work .

The Electronic Ignition System (EI) consists of a crankshaft mounted Dual Hall Sensor, two 4-tower coil packs, and an ignition module.
The EI eliminates the need for a distributor by using multiple ignition coils. Each coil fires two spark plugs at the same time. The coils are paired so that as one fires during the compression cycle the other fires during the exhaust stroke. The next time the coil is fired, the plug that fired on the exhaust stroke will fire on the compression stroke and the one that was on the compression stroke will fire on the exhaust stroke (the spark in the exhaust cylinder is wasted but little of the coil energy is lost).

Two coils are mounted together in a "coil pack". Each coil pack has two tach wires, one for each coil. Since there are two plugs per cylinder, two coil packs are required. One is called the Right Coil Pack (on right side of engine) and the other, the Left Coil Pack (left side). The Right Coil Pack and plugs operate continuously but the Left Coil Pack and plugs may be switched on or off by Electronic Engine Control processor. The Electronic Engine Control processor computes the spark angle and dwell for the ignition system.

Of course it's a judgment call. I couldn't guess how long it's been that way nor can you it seems. Need to look if some other thing is flying around that could have done that?

Old truck, JOB/WORK and a couple hours of run time for tonite? Weight the matter and use your head. The risk as I see it is if running poorly which can harm cat converter. If smooth and no odd odor it probably is ok to use it but I should never make the call for you like that. Might be making erratic sparks?

This is open web. I have to with common sense say don't use it till fixed as the primary suggestion,

This car ran good when i first got it. im not sure when the problem occured or how but now if i let it sit without starting it for more than an hour it wont start again for 24 hours its been to several people and is at a shop right now and has been for a month i dont want to spend any more money on this car things i know have been done to the car are new spark plug wires new distibutor cap igniton has been checked new spark plugs

used to have what we called a "hot soak" problem with the older mazdas. injectors leaking down after car ran for awhile. would not restart if left alone for a short time and wouldn't start for several hours. injectors leaking badly flood the engine and plugs won't fire. to test have a fuel pressure gage put on the car and check for "rest pressure" also called a leak down test. some pressure should remain for a specified length of time after engine is shut down. other than the electrical system this is the only thing i know of. this should be done at a shop with the proper tools and equipment.

When this happens....there are a couple of things you can check yourself...a sparkplug firing/ listening for the fuelpump coming on/ and having a diagnostic check on the computer.

I have a 1996 Mazda 626, 5 speed, 4 cylinder engine. I have changed the spark plugs/wires. No leaks. Oil and antifreeze both clean. It just lost power and spudders and blows out blue smoke. Took it to Autozone, they said the code said. Cylinder 2 misfire and another one that said multiple misfire. The engine light has been on for a while not but recently it started flashing. Anyone know what this could be?

Stieber; You'll need to pull #2 spark plug and take a look. Check the plug itself for a crack in the porcelain and recheck the gap. If the plug is fouled with oil, which sounds like maybe the case, then a compression test is in order.

I pulled the spark plug, they are pretty burnt, it is a old car lol, there is no oil on them. But I just changed them about a month ago. Should I get some new ones and try that?

Stieber; Are they 'black and sooty'? You can hold one of the plugs and light a match to 'burn' some of the deposit you see and take a smell. Does it smell like oil or gas? I'd pull all four plugs if you haven't already and compare them to each other. Do they all look the same? Gaps correct? The smoke out of the exhaust concerns me. If it's blue, that means the engine is burning oil which should show up on the plugs. If it's white or gray, may be burning coolant and the plug (#2) would look very clean. If the exhaust is black, would mean that it's running too rich.
I think that at this point, you should do a compression test on all four cylinders while you've got the plugs out. Post the readings when done.

They look as if they are gray, but on the white part a couple are burnt, but no oil on the gap area. I had a car in the past with a blown head gasket and this car is not giving symptoms of it. No blowing out of the radiator reservoir or gas smell in there and no water loss.

Stieber; The plug color sounds pretty normal. I suppose you could replace them if you want, but doesn't sound that you need to. Your decision. This is a belt driven engine. Do the compression test. If it checks out okay, then we may want to check timing marks which will require removing the upper timing belt cover. But, that doesn't explain the smoke......aaarrrggghhh.

ls there any chance the dipstick is wrong? Only real way to know is to change the oil, put in known capacity minus one qt and make a mark there. Then add the full capacity and mark it there too. Not common to this car but it was with some. I used a punch to mark the low level and the full mark on OE wrong dipsticks and ground off any info that would be misleading.

Stieber; Just for grins, and I doubt that this is the problem, carefully spray a bit of carb cleaner around the EGR valve with the engine idling. Depending on which runner of the intake manifold it's mounted, could be causing a vacuum leak to #2. If the engine speed picks up when you do this, remove the valve and check for a piece of carbon holding the pintle open.

I have a 1990 Mazda Miata with a 1.6L engine with 209,000 miles on it. It sputters and has no power during acceleration. When it get to about 3000 rpm it goes pretty good. I feels like it is missing. I replaced the spark plugs, wires, and air cleaner. It made no difference. I removed the cat converter thinking it might be plugged and started it up with it off. It still ran the same. A guy at the parts store said he thought it might be the coil. I checked to see if there were any fault codes, it blinked twice. The number 2 fault code is "no NE signal". I researched that and it is a signal that comes from the cam position sensor. I unplugged the cam sensor and the car wont start with it unplugged. Can anyone help me know how to test a coil and cam position sensor. They are quite pricy and I dont want to replace them if it is not going to fix the problem. I would appreciate any help!

Have you done a compression test?

At that mileage it might be time for new rings.

If you unplug the crank angle sensor, the engine definitely won't run or will stall. The crank angle sensor has two sensors built in. One is the G sensor that detects TDC and the other is the Ne that detects crank angle at 180 degrees.

You need to have someone test the Ne signal coming from the crank angle sensor using a oscilloscope and make sure it is reaching the ECU.

I have a 1994 Mazda B2300 that runs like a champ 99% of the time. The 1% is stumping me and the 2 mechanics I took it to to try and figure it out. If I don't keep the key turned until the engine starts or if the engine kills it won't start again for sometimes up to 5 hours, it will just keep turning until the battery dies. I have replaced the starter motor, spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel filter had the fuel pressure checked (which came back good), tested the battery, etc.. Seems to be higher probability of happening when cold.
4 cylandar/manual trans/2.3 lit/98 HP

Tom's right. If the car stays dead long enough to test, then any competent tech should be able to tell you why. There are systematic ways to isolate the root of the problem. If these guys can't figure out what is preventing the car from starting, then they are probably landscapers masquerading as technicians.

If it stayed not running for the techs I don't know why they couldn't find what was dropping out such that it couldn't run.


That's what you do WHEN you have an All Crank No Start condition - what's missing? Killing the battery and starter over it was unnecessary and just added to the source problem IMO,
