Question From tayzen on 2002 buick rendezvous motor shuddering problem.

2002 buick rendezvous
v6
5000 kms on rebuilt motor.

just today buick had a shudder in the motor when rpm went over 2500. feels like motor starving for fuel. If u slowwly accelerate doesnt seem to happen. if in park and iddle motor up to 2500 starts to shudder.
let sit for 5 minutes and tried again now it doesn't do it. anyone have an idea. the other thing i'm thinking is could it be a spark plug wire touching the rear exaust maniffold and melted through.

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

tayzen; This vehicle has misfire detection. You should have a check engine or service engine soon lamp illuminated? If so, have the code(s) retrieved and post them, here. Most larger parts stores will do this for free.

Response From tayzen Top Rated Answer

there was no engine light on.doesnt seem to be doing it anymore. I'll have to wait till it does it again and take it to the garage and have it computer diagnosed. In mean time going to change fuel filter. pull and inspect throttle positioning center to start. thanks for the advice. If there is something else i could check without a computer id be greatfull for the help. tks.

Response From Hammer Time

Well, are any wires touching the manifold?

Response From tayzen

sorry havent looked yet going to look tonight just wandering if it could have been a cause.

Response From Hammer Time

That or 100 other possibilities........

02 buick hesitates loses power

Question From dougcrv24 on 02 buick hesitates loses power

I have an 02 buick century 3.1 v-6. The car runs, but hesitates and chugs at low speed and during acceleration, also loses power at highway speeds. Seems to run fine at a stand still and while reving the motor, and will accelerate if you jump in the gas. I have changed the plugs with AC delco plugs, changed the MAF sensor, and air filter....still have the problem...help?

Response From Hammer Time

It sounds like it may be misfiring. If so, you want to make sure it has relatively new plug wires and it that doesn't resolve it, it's likely a bad coil.

Response From dougcrv24

Thanks. I'll try the new wires and see what happens. Where is the coil located if I need to replace it?

Response From Hammer Time

Just follow the wires back to the coil. I believe they are mounted right on top of the rear valve cover. You will first have to determine which cylinder is misfiring to know which coil is the problem.

Response From Hammer Time

If it's a constant miss, then you can find it with a spark tester but if you getting a PO300, then it's likely not just one cylinder and you could have other issues.

Response From dougcrv24

I have the new wires and will be putting them on shortly. I also had a local shop check to see if there were any codes stored....none other than a miscellaneous misfire code in the history. If the wires do not solve the problem how do I determine which cylinder is missing, and thus which coil to replace?
Thank you again for the guidance.
-Doug

Response From dougcrv24 Top Rated Answer

I have now replaced the spark plugs, wires, 3- coil packs, MAF sensor, and air filter. $350 later I still have the same problem with no codes showing. Fell like I am chasing a ghost.....and he's getting expensive to chase. Where do I go from here?
thanks.

Response From Hammer Time

Maybe you should stop throwing parts at it and have it diagnosed correctly. I advised you to use a spark tester that costs $4 and instead you replaced all the coils. You could have had it diagnosed professionally for well under $100. Your description doesn't give me the info I need to know what your experiencing.

Response From dougcrv24

Fair statement. As I mentioned I did take it in earlier this morning and was told that without codes to follow they could spend several hours trying to diag the problem. I thought putting on the wires and the coil packs looked easy enough before authorizing $300 or so for a diagnosis. I'll take it back to them. Thanks for trying to help.

Response From Hammer Time

If they want $300 to diagnose that problem, then find another shop. I own a shop and the max diagnostic I charge is $82. The wires it probably needed anyway but not all 3 coils.

buick stalling

Question From revdesigns on buick stalling

I have a 1995 buick lesabre custom, v6 fuel injected. Here's the ?, awhile back it started sputturing going up big hills, or giving it gas pulling away from a traffic light. Then would stall randomly, seems like it would only stall when i wasn't on the gas. It has a fairly rough idle, here's what i've replaced so far...

Fuel Filter
fuel pump
spark plugs
wires
checked ignition module, works fine
checked to make sure all were firing
correct gaps in plugs
ran fuel injector clearner through it
recent oil change
check engine light isnt on
no funny noises

i dont have access to a scanner, and i'm stumped. :(

Any help is very much appreciated, thanks for your time.

Response From leonard

Check your cat. converter, sounds like it's plugged. Make sure you also check the muffler, somtimes the baffles will collapse inside and your car cant exhaust like it should, also, if that's a db1 system, you dont need a scanner to check for trouble codes, you can access the adl link with a "computer key" or a paper clip but if theres no codes or the light isnt on, then theres no need.
Leonard

Response From bryan_kilco

I'm having this exact same problem. The problem did semm to come back when my exhaust leak got a bit worse.....just trying to pinpoint exactly what I should do, and if I should take it somewhere or do it myself.

Response From bryan_kilco Top Rated Answer

bah! i need some help!

aside from the stalling issue, my tranny will slip once the car gets warm, and today it was slipping bad and it has fluid......the speedometer drops to 0 and she loses power. anyone know what this could be?

Response From DanD

There are so many could be’s that without getting under the hood and checking things first hand, anything I suggest may take you on a wild goose chase?
ran fuel injector clearner through it

If you mean you poured something into the tank that usually won’t help you if there is an actual plugged or dirty injector. Those cleaners are not aggressive enough to do much of anything; they have their place as a preventative maintenance item but not when there’s a dirt problem. Maybe try having the system professionally cleaned and then an injector balance test performed.
The injectors may not even be dirty but one mite be beginning to fail electrically?
