Question From tj02910 on Nitrous on 02 kia spectra

Hey, im thinking of putting a small amount of nitrous in my kia spectra ( 15-35 HP worth) . Is this reasonable. Also will i blow a gasket or need engine repair to do this im just trying to add more HP thanks

Response From Sidom

I think it's probably time to put this one to bed.

Response From amerillove

Well, If you want it to go faster, get a bigger rubber band.

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

tj0; You can't be serious? It's a KIA, for God's sake. Just drive it. Keep the rpms down. If the timing belt breaks, it's over. Period. If you want a 'race' car, buy one. Oh, and that tomatoe can sized muffler doesn't do anything but annoy the neighbors.

Oh man..... you really crack me up sometimes Loren.....

Response From Tom Greenleaf

How do you dismantle the air bag from your puter? LMAO so hard it blows up!

You guys are great - keep up the awesome work you do and I'll double your pay - LOL

OH yea baby! Can anybody say winter house in the Bahamas..... Man I am so there

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Ok: 10 Times the pay - same math!

***************
Off topic - been to most islands in Caribbean and Caracas, VZ now ages ago. Not to Bahamas yet and too old and cranky to travel any more! LOL

Response From Sidom

I dunno Tom..... A little rum, a little sand between the toes & some sun ( I know the warm suns gotta be sounding good now ) and checking out the scenery.... Ya might not be so grumpy...........lol

And after the "big pay raise" kicks in...... Ya can come chill at my new beach house...........lmao

Response From Hammer Time

It's a nice place to visit but you wouldn't want to live there. I'm at the closest point to the US. West bank, Grand Bahama is 55 miles due east from me. Our boats head over there to fish a lot. The fishing is awesome over there.

i did find it somewhat humarous why anyone would whant or think of doing such a thing if he does
he will need that nitrous on a impact gun when he blows the engine

Response From Ski Top Rated Answer

I have heard a lot of crazy things in my day but putting Noz on a kia has to take first prize!!!! & to think he got the boot for using the "A" word Awsome??

Response From stick

I have an '08 smart car that I plan on running the quarter mile with, any tips on a blower and can I run nitro methanol? What size rubber do you think I can fit on that baby?

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

33X12.50X15 would be my recommendation.

Response From Sidom

Geeeeez Loren.....come on man, now you are showin your age......... Twenty twos!!!!! DUB

Response From stick

Boosting a kia's HP 15-20 horses would just about double it, wouldn't it?

Response From steve01832

Probably make it illegal for street use.

Steve

No, not 22s, 33's man! That's what I had on my Dakota. All four studded, of course.

kia won't start after changing radiator

Question From Guest on kia won't start after changing radiator

I have a 2001 kia sportage and while driving the radiator blew out and the engine died. I changed the radiator, the engine turns over but it will not start. please help me i am on fixed income and husband passed away i cannot afford to take to shop. Thanks.

Response From Guest

Thanks for the information, i will try to get diaganostic test on it.

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Arggh! Sorry about the problems. Guessing lots of things go soaked when radiator up a leaked out on you. The sudden shock of wet on electrical things could easily damage especially any high voltage items that got wet or sprayed with hot coolant. Check for which ones you thing were possibly in the line of spraying coolant.

How hard did it overheat? I'm betting if everything else is ok or was right before that this has no spark now and is secondary ignition problems?? (Item involved with making spark)

Kia Sorento 2006 (bent crankshaft)

Showing 4 out of 4 Posts
Question From aysha on Kia Sorento 2006 (bent crankshaft)

My Kia Sorento 2006 has only done 49,000kms and is serviced every 5,000kms. The engine was noisy and heaving and the steering almost jammed completely. When towed to the agent, I expected to replace a broken fan belt or similar but instead was shocked to hear that the fault was a bolt snapped in the engine and malfunctioned a pulley which bent the crankshaft!? I have a huge estimate for repairs US$2,000+. A bent crankshaft!!! has anyone ever heard of such a thing? The car has never been in an accident and only driven 49,000kms. I suspect faulty parts are the culprit and intend to contact KIA directly but would be interested to know of anyone who can shed light on this matter. Thanks in advance!

Response From Tom Greenleaf

I've heard of and seen some wild stuff and that's right up there. This sort of thing has so far mostly been abuse so have your documents and hope you get some satisfaction but wouldn't be surprised if this is a tough nut to prove. Have seen engines that didn't make it five miles from brand new that slipped by quality controls but not that lasted even your low miles and pull this on you.

Good luck,

T

Response From aysha Top Rated Answer

Thanks for your comments - everyone I have mentioned this to today have been surprised and said that the car would need to have had a major collision to bend the crankshaft, its not an everyday occurrence - as it happens, I was driving to work yesterday morning when it happened out of the blue and thankfully I was on a road where I could pull over easily. Being a lady, I don't know that much about car engines but a friend said its strange how the garage were able to say it was a bent crankshaft before opening up the front of the engine (which they would need to do to see the crankshaft in the first place).

Response From Tom Greenleaf

The ones I've known either busted right away when new and most were engines that were over revved up and strange things would break up to needing a whole engine or at least monster work. I've been told a harmonic balancer if an engine is run without one can cause damage but just never happened to run across that?

2000 kia sephia repair Q

Showing 2 out of 5 Posts | Show 3 Hidden Posts
Question From sprmom3 on 2000 kia sephia repair Q

I have a 2000 Kia Sephia and I had the car inspected and was told I needed a new front-right half shaft and bearing & seals for both front. I would like to know in plain English what they are specifically. I am not the woman who brings my car to a mechanic to fix things, I do it myself. (Places like Firestone think Im stupid and like to try to rip me off). I looked up online how to replace them, but I cant seem to find anything. Can anyone give me a run down of what they are and how to replace them please? Thanks so much.-Donna

p.s. If there are any Mechanics in Orlando, Fl that would be willing to assist us for cheaper than an actual mechanic shop, I would be willing to pay for parts and labor. They want almost $1000 for just those (parts and labor for the half shaft and the Bearings & Seals), and I was told I could cut that cost significantly if I did it myself. Something like up to but no more than $200 for parts. Please let me know. Thanks so much :)

a 1/2 shaft is just another term for an axle. Your car has 2, a left & right. It goes from the transmission to the wheels. The bearing are in the "hub" or "knuckle" of the front wheels. The axle goes thru the bearing that's in the hub and is secured with an axle nut, torqued to around 150 lbs (you need to look up the exact spec if you do this yourself).

The bearing is pressed into the hub so to do the bearings, you would remove the hub and have a shop press the old ones out & new ones in.

So I'm assuming I either read it wrong in the manual or I need to brush up on the terms better? It said it was the cv joints. I don't know what exactly they're called on this car if anything else (my Buick had them). This is a new car for me, I'm used to having cars older than 1990, lol.

I won't have the money til the 26th, so we have a couple weeks to fight over who gets to do it.

Don't worry, that isn't going to happen

A halfshaft or axle is just 2 C/V joints joined by a bar. The total assembly is called a halfshaft and they are changed as a complete unit..

Question From member101 on Kia rio station wagon-2003

Hi

As owner of a Kia rio 2003 model (119000km), I hope you dont mind answering several questions ive had on my mind for sometime now. It would take some relief of my mind.

1. The car recommeded tire size is: 175/65/R14. However tyres suppliers in Fiji have more of 175/70/R14. Is it okay to use 175/70/R14? What is the difference?

2. Local dealer has advised that engine mounts are weak. What are the purpose of the engine mounts and how does he tell they are weak and why is necessary repair?

3. Local dealer says that the lower suspension plate bushings are worn, I have bought the part. can the repair of this be done at home garage or is it an expensive dealer garage job.

4. The cars internal light, and rear view mirrow switch is not working, please confirm if this is a fuse problem and is it a costly affair.

I would appreciate your fast responce. Thanks so much as usual.

Most cars have optional tires sizes that will work fine. I haven't check that model but the size is so close it shouldn't be a problem. Some cars will list optional sizes in the door jam.

Some mounts will vibrate or start to crack. Or they could've checked how much travel there is when power braking the engine and felt the engine was moving too much....

I'm not real sure of the part you are talking about. If it's strut mounts then you would need a spring compressor to do this at home.....

It's very possible you have a bad fuse. Get a test light an check all your fuses.... If it's not a fuse then it would be somewhere between a simple fix to a very costly problem depending on what is bad and how hard it was to find the problem.....

Sorry for the slow response but I had my 3yr old grandson last night and was stuck playing Mario all night. (The kids good..) It took an act of Congress just to be able to sneak outside & grab a smoke.....

Thats Okay! ( reply)..

Excellent reply.

I was onto the lower front arm attached to the tension rod and the steering knuckle. I have this part, the lower control arm replacement with me.

It sounds like you may be talking about a sway bar link pin which would be able to be changed with some basic tools. If possible a picture would really help....

As far as the frt suspension goes on that, the frt struts are really the only part that would require special tools. Every thing else is pretty much unbolt & replace. Aside from a couple of big sockets & big hammer a basic tool set it's all pretty straight forward....
