broken right side view mirror from case

Question From Guest on broken right side view mirror from case

Hi everyone,

I was parking into the garage and accidentally was a little too close, so the right side view mirror bumped into the wall. I decided, stupidly, to back out again, but instead this bent my side view mirror the other way, and the mirror slightly detached itself from the case. It is still slightly attached, but part of it isn't and so it is hanging and bends over. I drive a Honda Accord. The maneuvering of the mirror left or right and up or down works is still working fine, but since it is dangling it doesn't necessarily "work", if you understand what I mean.

Any help on how to repair it would be GREATLY appreciated; could I glue the broken part simply back on?

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

If you don't mind UGLY! You can usually get broken parts back in proper place anyway with "Permatex's Clear Adhesive Sealant"

It's gonna take a day to be strong in room temps or so. Use good tape to hold the mess in place while drying.

Otherwise - try for aftermarket whole units. It's a popular car and some are out there far less than a dealer new one complete,

Side mirror in plastic molding for Honda Odyssey

Question From Guest on Side mirror in plastic molding for Honda Odyssey

We need to replace the passenger side mirror on a 2001 Honda Odyssey. We only need the mirror glass in the frame (or plastic molding), the housing that's attached to the car, along with the electronic mechanism are all intact.

Is it possible to get just the glass in the frame? I've looked online, and most places seem to just have the glass.

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

There are aftermarket "just the glass" replacements for some vehicles. I know there is a mirror finish tape (substandard by my opinion) that can be cut to fit and look proper - that seen at Wal-Mart. Don't know if it's legal.

I've just gone thru this with what I thought was a common mirror and wasn't - had to buy the whole thing $$. Auto glass places can probably make it up for you. I was going to do that with mine and next time I would. I bet the demand is high for even the ones (right side) that are convex (sp) you know - they say objects are closer than they appear type glass.

Just thought of a great idea........ Check with a mid priced used car dealer and see what they do with this stuff. You just know they don't pay for whole new mirrors all the time - shoot - I should have done that!

honda insight damage

Question From kayla364 on honda insight damage

Im looking to purchase a 2010 Honda Insight 1.3L it has been wreaked and I was just wondering if someone could give me a rough estimate of what i would be looking at for parts and labor it needs a front bumper, left headlight, left fender, left door mirror, left door glass, and drivers airbag. No damage to the motor or drive train and the passenger airbag did not deploy.Like I said im just looking for a rough estimate. Thanks for any help provided.

Response From Sidom

Major left damage AND a deployed air bag......You are into the thousands easily..

IF it wasn't totalled, the only thing that saved that from happening was the year & low mileage.........

If it was totalled & this is a salvaged vehicle you won't be able to put full coverage insurance on it, liability only.....

Response From Hammer Time

You need to have it inspected by a body shop. Nobody can tell you the extent of damage without seeing it.

Response From kayla364

well i was going to post a picture but i dont know how thats why I said a rough estimate In general hpw much is it to replacr these things.

Response From Hammer Time

Anywhere from $500 to $5,000

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

My 2 cents: It has to be seen to know. I'd rather you look for a car that wasn't in a wreck and pay the extra as unknowns crop up on wrecks sometimes and hard to trace down,

99 Honda Passport Coolant Leak

Question From Guest on 99 Honda Passport Coolant Leak

1999 Honda Passport
3.2L V6
135,000 miles

Had puddle of coolant under car after it sat for 3 days. Filled reservoir and it ran fine until the next weekend when it sat for a couple days, another puddle. If I run it every day there is no loss.

It is not running hot and the engine performance feels the same. I checked the hoses and looked for a source but couldn't fine anything.

Thanks in advance.
Nick

Response From Double J

If coolant is puddling under the vehicle, you should have the system pressure tested to verify source of leak...
Autozone does rent a cooling system pressure tester but it doesn't come with all the adapters needed to fit all vehicles...it will fit the normal radiator top and it has one adapter...depends on your style....
if not ,it will be to your advantage to take it in to have it checked....since your getting a warning now, don't wait until it gets worse and possibly leaves you stranded somewhere....

just my opinion....

Response From UNCC49er

I'll do it.

Thanks,
Nick

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

To add: Nick - this type of elusive leak is frequently the shaft seal of the waterpump. It may seal at certain temps and pressures. It also must seal slight vacuum where is could open up and have a leak time an quit leaking again. Try to find the water pump, have a mirror or whatever to look right at the seal and vent when you pressure up the system with a tester. If it still won't leak right inn front of you look for dried traces of anti-freeze from that area,

T

Response From UNCC49er

Thanks guys. I never could find the source of the leak, just coolant all over the bottom of the front protion of the engine. I took it in and had the system pressurized, it held 15psi for a little over 30 minutes and finally a little coolant appeared where I had noticed it previously, it continued to hold the pressure so apparently it is a small leak? They could not confirm the exact source of the leak but suspect it is the water pump and recommend replacement. I am debating about changing it myself, but I have not really done much repair, only minor tune ups. It looks like I will have to take the front end apart and remove the timing belt just to access the water pump. My Dad lives across the state who would be a huge help but he won't be able to get down for a few more months.

In your expert opinion, am I biting off more than I can chew.

Another problem has creeped up. The gas gauge does not work properly. It reads empty after about a half a tank is consumed. It will jump back up to normal periodically but then it will go all the way down and begin flashing. Could the float be getting stuck? I also read that soemtimes the sending unit goes bad on these models.

Thanks again!

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Product Part No. Price Duralast new / Water Pump
Warranty - LLT BWP-9204 $57.99 Note: Pump is timing belt driven. It is recommended to replace the timing belt with the replacement of the water pump.
______________________________________________

It says water pump (likely problem with this car) is timing belt driven so as it says above it is a good time to do the belt also and would probably do the pump with a belt it tough enough to get at everything which it probably is.

"Are you biting off more than you can chew?" Your call. Most of These are better for high end DIYers and may involve more tools than are at your side,

Response From Guest

Point taken, I will leave it to the pros. Thanks for the help!

Response From Double J

YES........

I agree that this is one you may not want to get involved with.
There is a special tool needed just to hold the pulley in order to remove the crankshaft bolt..
And that bolt is a son of a gun to remove...it has thread locker on it from the factory and takes a powerful impact to break it loose or a good bar with room needed for leverage..something you wont have by doing in the driveway.Believe me...Smart choice, leave this one to the pros...

Here is a pic of the tool...

Response From Guest

You will also need a pulley puller or gear puller to coax the center pulley off of the crankshaft, if you are lucky enough to get the bolt off (mentioned in previous post)

Question From lora77357 on 1997 honda accord

i have an 1997 honda accord. 2.2litr the check engine light stays on... the computer is saying that is is running lean.. what do i need to do to correct this? thanks lora

Response From Sidom

There is a wide variety of things that can cause this code. The simplest things to check for would be false air or vacuum leak. Just take a look at the air intake tube from the air cleaner to throttle body & make sure it's not loose & all hoses are attached to it. You can listen for a hissing noise coming from the intake manifold area which would indicate a vacuum leak but if there was a leak you would usually notice a running problem associated with the leak.

Response From DanD Top Rated Answer

More or less the same answer as Sidom’s

There are many things that can set off a lean code; defective oxygen sensor, vacuum leak(s), low fuel pressure, dirty injectors, defective injector(s) and the list goes on and on.
Tests on all of these things need to be performed; as to determine what the ROOT cause for the code to set.
There are a lot of people that may just replace the O2 sensor in the hope that, that was the problem. I’ve also seen a number of people that have perfectly good sensors hanging from their mirror as decoration because it didn’t fix the problem.
So I guess I’m saying take the car in and have it diagnosed by someone, you feel knows how to perform the required tests. After that you can take the car home and do the repair yourself? That’s if you would even want too; once you find out what the job entails?

Dan.
