Before diving into a head gasket I would have the mechanic determine the cause of the no start.
With this engine being allowed to overheat to the point of the engine stopping I would be concerned with what else may have happened because of the overheating.
Things like seizing the camshaft and breaking the timing belt is one of the possibilities along with a number of others.
It could very well just be the gasket that has blown so badly that there’s no compression but that’s where a compression test and finding the cause of the no start should be done before anything.

Probably close to the same as a Dodge van with a V8. You should have no problems. Just remember to replace the head bolts. They are torque to yield.

I recently had to replace the head gaskets because the car was over heating and coolant was getting into my oil. The problem is fixed but now when I drive with the a/c on the car acts like it has no power to accelerate and the engine shakes bad. When the air is not on it is fine. HELP!!!

I'm not even sure but did the A/C need to be discharged to do the head gasket work? The problem so soon after the other makes me wonder if it's way overcharged with refrigerant. Could that even be?

Either way if you can see the compressor struggling just looking at it at idle I'd unplug it to make sure it can't come on and get that diagnosed as if it crunches it could cost you as much or more than the head gasket job!

If it came in on the end of a hook with 200k on the clock......Top end work wouldn't even be an option.......

I've just seen too many bottom ends go out on high mileage top end repairs that wasn't due to tech error.....It's a high risk gamble..

I wouldn't mess with that engine. You're opening up a can or worms. Everything you touch will have severe wear and where do you stop? The heads will be in severe need of a valve job when you get them off and if you follow through with that, then the lower end is going to respond badly to the increased compression.

Thats a hard call to make over the internet. If the head gasket made the oil milky and it was run like that for any length of time, change the whole motor. There will be bottom end damage. If the service history has been good and its an external leak with no other concerns and the price is right do the gasket.
