I just replced my cluth/pressure plate/throw out bearing and had the fly wheel resurfaced. also replaced the slave cylinder. I am unable to get the car to go into gear. Have tried adjusting the free play and bled the master and slave multiple times..no luck. Aside from droping the transmision again and double checking..lets asume everything is right..Any suggestions? It is on a 92 isuzu rodeo 3.1L 4x4 with the 9 11/16 clutch.

Guess: This is probably a problem with the hydraulic linkage to properly disengage the clutch.

Other: If trans was allowed to bend up the clutch disk by hanging there until you bolted it up it will just drag all the time and make shifting tough and a new disk is the only fix. Hope it's simpler than going back there, T

Well turns out I was given the wrong clutch..once we pulled it out ..again...it had to many springs and was off by 1/8 if an inch..not sure if it was even for an Isuzu..a hard lesson re-learned( I knew better than to just throw a new part in before checking)..so to everyone who sees this..DOUBLE CHECK THE PARTS!!!

I hear that, I installed 4, Ford "Reman" Clutch kits in a 95 F-150 all within 10 miles. Before a Ford Engineer agreed with me that the pressure plates where machined and the friction surface was not flat. All it took was a new clutch kit from napa.
The uneven surface of the pressure plate would not allow the clutch to fully dis-engauge.
Needless to say I will never install a "Reman" clutch again.

Parts can be a real pest!! When I call my very local store I bring the old one with me if there are choices in the same vehicle. This has happened to me too many times over the years so I match them up at the counter.

Hi, The compressor on my 1998 Isuzu Rodeo has just seized for the third time and I'm told it needs to be replaced. I'm told if I don't replace the compressor it will damage the serpentine belt. Can I disconnect the air conditioner so I don't have to spend any more money on it? Thanks! Kristi

Thanks for the quick reply! The mechanic tells me the pulley/clutch assembly is damaged and would continue to make a noise even if he disconnected the compressor. Any suggestions?

You can replace just the clutch and pulley or sometimes buy a belt for the car as if it never had A/C and bypass it completely. If that clutch and it is also just a pulley was the whole problem you may have A/C again. T

Having some concerns with my Rodeo with regards to acceleration. 5 speed manual transmission. When attempting to get moving in first gear I have to rev the RPMs way up to even get going. I can get through the gears evenutually and it operates fine once up to speed. There are no problems with the car stalling or the engine responding to the gas pedal being depressed

Does this car take high revs with the clutch engaged as in your foot off the pedal?

If so that is typical of a worn out clutch or pedal free play is to small and it's like riding the clutch when you are not. If so it's trouble fast for the clutch,

89 Isuzu pickup clutch won't go into gear when running, when I turn it off I can put it in gear and it'll run and move, but won't change gears at all. It doesn't grind, just won't go into gear. Prior to this happening, my clutch pedal "dropped" to the floor and I had to bring it back up with my foot to change gears. In addition, since we changed the fuel pump and rebuilt the carb, I noticed my clutch had been"winding out" a lot more in most gears, especially third. This may be unrelated, but we had to take a lot of "stuff" off to get to the fuel pump, may have messed something up. Truck is a 2.3 five speed with around 130k miles.

It's has hydraulic linkage, right? Check that it's full first and watch it move when a helper is working the clutch to see what ISN'T moving properly.


You said you had to remove a lot of "stuff" to get at another job so check all that again hard if something was broken as your complaint is totally consistent with the clutch plain not disengaging no matter how it's designed cable or hydraulic.
Don't force it to shift as things will just get nasty,

My 89 amigo wont go into gear when the engine is started but will when the engine is off. What do I do? I've tried starting it in gear and it starts and goes but fights me for every other gear and wants to die. My clutch pedal is bottomed out and Im still fighting to put it into gear and it wont go.

You're having a problem with the hydraulic clutch system. You probably have a slow leak in the clutch master or slave cylinder. You will have to locate the leak abd repair it and them bleed the system out.

ok Thank you again. I just put 900 dollars into the front end for axle shafts and breaks about 2 weeks ago and paid 1500 for it 2 weeks before that so I was wondering if it would become my own personal money pit but hopefully this ends the problem. Thanks again
