Take off door panel and look for the three bolts - may require drilling a hole to access and may be indexed where to drill. That's a clear case of measure twice and cut once if needed.

This should be diagnosed carefully before you replace the motor. What are your finding so far that makes you think it's the motor?

I have checked the switches and wires to the motor, all are working or getting power to motor. I have changed a window motor on a 2002 stratus, but the 04 is set up different and little room to manuver. So I will have to drill out the door where the bolts for the motor are located? Not liking that much.

Remember I'm not looking at it like you are. This type motor would probably be help in by three 8mm bolts into the head/gear end of it. It may have been mounted there when new before spot welds made direct access impossible. Some you might get a ratheting box wrench at or whatever but may not be able to start them back in when replacing so a straight line shot at it can be had with drilling a hole such that a 1/4 socket can go straight in.

Know that this type motor with just two wires is reversing polarity for up or down. That could be the problem. Body of this motor may need to be grounded.

Some tricks that save a wasted job: Just look at a dome light with key on engine off such that windows should work. Hit the switch for up or down on that motor and if the light filckers or dims the motor is drawing current. If it does flicker there's a VERY high chance the motor is bad. If nothing then test the wires close to the motor for getting power and ground alternately as up or down is requested. If good to right there - motor is bad.

You have to look at how it's mounted. Perhaps the ounting area can be moved - you are there - I'm not. Sorry I don't have software programs with pics/diagrams and instructions that might be available. Some metal that would need drilling out is indexed with a center punch like ding that locates the spot.

Cool Trick related: I've needed to get very old motors out of junks and away from house power. A 9v battery (household) with jumper clips can make these things work without load on them. Good for testing them in a bone yard.

I'm trying for you. Perhaps someone else here has more exact know how for this specific car,

does anyone know how to anchor an automatic window motor in the driver side door? i have the door panel off and it appears the motor teeth are not meeting the window gear--the motor appears to be loose or unbracketed and I cannot get into the metal panel of the door.

Most window motors are pop-riveted to the door framework. Assuming the motor/regulator are not damaged, you'll need a large pop-rivet tool and large stainless steel rivets to secure the motor. What year, make, and model are we looking at?

How do I remove the drivers side front door panel on a 2000 Plymouth Voyager to replace the power window motor? I removed all the screws that are visible but I can't seem to pop it off. I'm afraid that if I pill too hard I will break something! Thanks, --Gary

There are usually screws also anchoring the armrest /pull handle area...make sure those are out as well...

There are either plastic retainers or metal wire retainers around the edges to the door that snap into the metal part of the door as well.
If your sure the screws are all out,there is a tool that can get in behind the clips ,if plastic,and pop 'em out...if wire, just tug the door panel off...should come off..
If plastic retainers or even wire ones,they may stay in the metal part of the door once removed..will have to be reinserted in the trim panel first before reinstallation.

I have a 1992 Ford f150 XLT, I am guessing the window motor has went bad on the passenger side because the switch on the driver nor the passenger side will roll the window up or down. Does this sound like the motor? If so is it an easy to do repair for my self? Does anyone have a diagram?

Different looking thing and haven't done one on the trucks of the vintage yet. Should look like this and may be "rivet city" to replace.

A simple test is to see if the motor is taking any current/amps at all with ign turned to enable windows but engine off. Look at the dome light (can watch a voltmeter too but this is easy) while requesting up and down for that window. It will dim or flicker if current is getting to motor - check both up and down requests.

If no change more testing needed. You should get inside and test motor while installed before you blame it. Basic electrical test for switches is that polarity is reversed for up and down request, respectively.

Hi, I am changing out the window motor in a Buick lesabre. When i put the new motor in place and push the up button it goes down about 2 inches, when I push down button it goes back up. When I pull it out of the door, Up works up and down works down. What am i doing wrong?

???? You put it in and it tries to work backwards of request and then take it OUT AND IT WORKS?? Can you explain that? If rebuilt some could just have the wires reversed or it was your call to put the right wires back to the right color.

I bought the motor new at auto zone. When I first hooked the new motor up,outside of the door, and tried it , it worked like it was supposed to. Push the down button and it travels all the way to the bottem of the track. Push the up button and it goes all the way up.
I installed it into the door, the guide into the track on the bottem of the window, lined up all the holes for the motor and track, bolted them in place. Hooked the power up, just like I did when I tried it out of the door, and it works in reverse. I didnt cut any wires, just unplugged the old motor and hooked up the new. Didnt change any wires in the switch either. I tried working on it forever yesterday with the same results, just my luck I guess.

These things can be screwy. The same motor works either direction based on polarity. That for two wire motors. One wire is hot and the other is ground. Reverse that and the motor turns the other way which is what the switch is doing. When the make these motors they are usually left or right sided for the sides of the car and either a head on the motor or the wires need to be reversed or both. I've done tons of old Fords and change the heads with the gear for the specific car or side but end up switching wires for some - this with old cars and unavailable new parts.

If the motor has 3 wires it's a different beast. I thought they stopped that in 1965! Your switch itself should not be the problem. If you need to test it reversed do it with jumper wires as the test so you can return the motor if in fact it is wrong,
