Question From Revansbane on Tie rod

How hard would it be to change a tie rod on a 95 Nissan Sentra??

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Inner or outer - both? Requires alignment when finished too. Tools required - possibly rentable,

T

Response From Revansbane

I will porbably change both while under there. How much will the part cost?

Response From Tom Greenleaf

http://www.autozone.com/N,14600194//shopping/partTypeResultSet.htm <<<< that's what AZ lists for the 2.0 for this car - you can price out just what you really need want and use that as a basline.

You have to decide whether to do both (all) or just what shows worn,

inner tie rod end replacement

Question From dmac0923 on inner tie rod end replacement

2002 Nissan Sentra Spec V
60,000 miles
this is my daily driver, so down time is crucial.

when the car is stationary, and i wiggle the steering wheel side to side, i hear and feel a clunk/metal to metal slop. it seems to be more pronounced when i turn left.

my first thought were the outer tie rod ends. but i had just replaced them with MOOG ones at 44,000 miles. but nothing surprises me anymore so with a helper i crawled under the car but of course the outer tie rods are tight.

however i did notice the accordian/bellow boot that is one the tie rod and the rack was making a weird jerking motion. more so on the drivers side then passenger.

i didnt attempt to remove the boot until i was sure and had the replacement parts.

am i correct in assuming its the innner tie rod ends???

finally since i need the car to be down for as little time as possible, does anyone have any simple guidlines on how to tackle replaceing inner tie rod ends. ive never had to do them before.

Response From Jeff Norfolk

This could be a problem with the rack itself. I have seen this problem in the past. It looks like the inner tie rods are causing the looseness in the front end, but it is actually the rack. With your helper, remove the bellows boot and have him shake the steering wheel back and forth. Watch where the slack is. If the rack is bad the slack will be behind the inner tie rod where it screws into the rack. You should be able to see what the problem is. If the rack is the problem, the new rack usually comes with the inner tie rods. Good Luck

Response From dmac0923

alright thanks, ill have to pop the bellows off and take a peek. im always hesitant to pop those one time only band style clamps off the bellows. i guess i could always just use hose clamps on the re-installation

Ya I know what you mean. A heavy duty tie rap works well for me in most cases on those bellows boots.

2002 Nissan Quest GLE - Shakes beyond 60MPH

Question From Guest on 2002 Nissan Quest GLE - Shakes beyond 60MPH

2002 Nissan Quest GLE - Shakes beyond 60MPH
Steering wheel as well as seats in rear also shake.
What could be the possible cause?

Response From Guest

Check your fuel injector. My dad's car did the same thing when it reached the 60-70 region. We thought it was something really serious, but it was the fuel injector failing to feed a steady flow of gasoline to the engine. It wasn't a cheap fix but it did solve the problem.

Wish you the best!

Response From dave284 Top Rated Answer

There could be several things to cause this....need to check front wheel bearings/ tie rod ends, an out of balance tire or wheel alignment could also cause this.

Response From Guest

I got it checked from an authorized mechanic workshop just before buying and they took almost 2 hours for checking each and everything but they only told me that there are 4 things -
1) One of the Engine Mount needs to be changed - though it is not must do at this time
2) Rear brake pad needs to be changed as they are at -5%
3) Transmission oil needs to be flushed
4) Time Belt needs to be changed

Can any one of the above cause this problem of Vibration. Pls advice.

Response From dave284

I don't believe that any of those would cause the steering wheel to shake, although a bad motor mount would cause vibration at anytime, I suggest having the front tires checked out and parts of suspension too...again.

2006 NISSAN MURANO power steering noise.

Showing 2 out of 2 Posts
Question From maxauto on 2006 NISSAN MURANO power steering noise.

2006 NISSAN MURANO AWD 3.5 125000km.

Power steering noise on turns. Happens when steering left or right. Strut mounts, struts, ball joint and tie rod were checked and seem fine. U-joints between the steering column and the rack are OK.

Power steering pump and ruck/pinion were changed with ABSOLUTELY NO RESULT.

What could be the reason?

Any help greatly appreciated!
Thank you.

Response From Sidom Top Rated Answer

To give an accurate answer I would have to hear the noise...

One suggestion would be to check all the idler pulleys & other accessories.

Using the p/s puts enough of a strain on the system that bearing going bad in other areas can actually get louder....
