Cadillac no heat

Question From Chef Jeff on Cadillac no heat

My mother owns a 1992 Cadillac Deville with a 4.9. The vehicle will not blow hot air. The blend door moves appropriately. I replaced the thermostat. The AC compressor seems to operate continuously, even when set at the highest possible temperature. Is the most likely scenario a plugged heater core? Any thoughts? Thank you.

Response From dave284

There are a inlet line and a outlet line at the firewall to the heatercore, feel the hoses, both should feel about same temp,if theres a noticable difference more than likely its the core, other signs include air in the system, waterpump, and the thermostat installed wrong way,bad temp switch

Response From Chef Jeff

Replaced the core with great results. Thanks for the input.

Question From zieman on 97 cadillac deville

ihave 97 cadillac deville 4.6L northstar over heating problems changed thermostat new coolant still overheats 220 - 237 any body no what temperature the fans are supposed to come on . right now they are coming on at 221degrees

Response From Sidom Top Rated Answer

Is the water pump belt in good shape??

You know, that one in the back of the engine that runs the water pump that everyone forgets about checking.........

Also that is the correct temp for the cooling fans to come on...............

Response From mike zieman

belt is good head gasket maybe is there a easy way to confirm no obvious signs

Response From Sidom

No real easy way to test those. They have a remote reservoir so chemical testing isn't always accurate, meaning it might pass an engine with a blown head gasket. But there are other things that could cause this problem. A restricted radiator. The impellers on the water pump worn down, a restriction in the block....

Did this problem start out of blue or were there some signs leading up to this????.....running a bit warmer?? Any coolant lose???

I realize you did look at the water pump belt but probably would've felt better if you said BOTH belts were good... The main serp belt & then the little water pump belt in the back that runs off the camshaft...

1988 cadillac will not heat up

Question From jlksk17 on 1988 cadillac will not heat up

just bought a 1988 cadillac sedan de ville. cannot get the heat working.fuses are good. just recharged air conditioner. heater will not come on unless i unplug the 25 amp fuse. then it only comes on momentarily. Is there a thermostate somewhere in the system to change out. It is a digital in-dash single a/c- heat system. manufacture date of car is 4-88.tthank you

Response From profleet

Need to clarify is the problem that no air blows through the vents or is it the air does not blow hot?
which 25 amp fuse are you unplugging?
Cadillac heating systems will not turn on until the vehicle senses that the engine coolant and air temp at the heater core is warmer than the outside air temp.

link deleted.......not allowed

Response From jlksk17 Top Rated Answer

thank you. Air is blowing-just not hot. Looks like we will need a new thermostat. appreciate your help!

Response From Hammer Time

With the engine at full operating temp, locate the 2 heater hoses where they go into the firewall and feel them to see if they are both hot to the touch.

If they are. then the engine and heater core are good and the problem is in the electronics under the dash.

Response From jlksk17

very helpful comment. we will check that out. thanks.

Question From lex859 on 2000 cadillac deville heater

I have a 2000 cadillac deville and the heater blows hot only when i hit the gas. If im stopped at a light or something it starts to blow cold. Sometimes if i rev it up it goes back hot. Coolant seems to be fine sometimes it smells under the hood. I have replaced the water pump and thermostat but still have the same problem. Any advice would be gladly appreciated. Thanks

Response From zmame Top Rated Answer

I would try flushing and back flushing the heater core, might be partially plugged.

Take the 2 hoses off pour some CLR and let it sit in the heater core for a while then back flush and flush thoroughly.

Cadillac has no heat

Question From Salming21 on Cadillac has no heat

I own a 1989 Cadillac Coupe De Ville.
I have had no heat for 2 years.
I replaced the heater core, flushed the rad. replaced the rad cap.
I also replaced the thermostat and the coolant is strong.
We have 130 degrees from the heat when it sits in a warm shop.
When we let the car idol outside in the cold, it slowly goes down to 120, 110,100, etc...
as the car sits outside it eventually turns to blow cold air.
Please help. What can I do for heat?
I am freezing.

Response From way2old

Have you tried to rev up the car to see if temperature increases? If it does, it could be the water pump is not circulating enough coolant to produce the heat you need.

Response From Guest Top Rated Answer

I will try that but it seemed the flow was very good when we tested the car last time.
