Motor Mount rubber loose

Question From r286ps2 on Motor Mount rubber loose

I am able to move the rubber in the engine motor mount with my finger is that normal? I am thinking it is the cause of a vibration at 3500 RPMs

Response From Tom Greenleaf

What type vehicle please!

Most motor mounts are rubber vulcanized to metal and you wouldn't just move them with a finger and would cause issues if not replaced,

Response From r286ps2

It is a VW 1.8t 2005 GTI

A VW person told me if I am having vibrations it could also be the dogbone mount, which attaches the transmission to the frame. I had the transmission rebuilt and they put the old dogbone mount back in maybe I should check that out also.

Response From Hammer Time

Maybe you should have someone that can recognize a problem check it for you.

Response From r286ps2 Top Rated Answer

I should but not spending anymore money on it. The vibration is very slight not a big issue.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

OK - so far nobody has a clue what if anything is wrong up to tighten up something but it doesn't bother you so kind of ends the problem,

Question From comnavguy on 05 Neon motor mount torque?

2005 Neon with 4 cyl engine upper motor mount replacement. Can someone give me the torque specs on the bolts ?

Response From Mr.scotty Top Rated Answer

My repair info for your car doesn't even show a spec for motor mounts.
I've always gone by feel with things like this.
Hopefully someone else of here will chime in and give you a spec.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Not sure there is a spec but was when car was made. Just snug them up so they aren't loose or fall apart should do and don't go wild,

Repeated failure front motor mount

Question From gwentoyou on Repeated failure front motor mount

I have put 3 front motor mounts in my 96 Corolla, the second time I replaced all 4 mounts as well as the outer axles. Struts also. Third motor mount less than a year ago, and I can tell by the feel of it that this third one is broken. I put a new clutch in it at the same time as the last motor mount. Manual trans, 240K. I am tired of putting money in this car, it is not used hard, just 20 miles each way to work and I drive it gently. WTF

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

You have to buy them from the dealer. Aftermarket mounts won't work in that situation.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Failed mounts are usually operator abuse (standard shift especially), contaminated by an oil or cheaply made parts.

240K and not used much?! Mounts not really involved if replaced but that way up there and stuff happens. Perhaps even exhaust heat is now not shielded from rubber mounts of something long removed or modified as a pita to fix some or costly,

Saturn-Motor Mounts

Question From jake9364 on Saturn-Motor Mounts

I have a 1996 Saturn sl sedan, I was told about six months ago by the Saturn dealership that it is going to need new motor mounts, well I still have not had it done. My question is this, when it is cold and you start it it sounds like the engine is racing very fast and it is loud, and one time when I was on the highway and hit the brakes hard it started to shake (ABS-?), once it warms up it is not tto bad, could the motor mounts being bad cause it to make the loud noise because engine is vibrating/bad mounts? Thanks....

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Yes,
