Question From Guest on need some info

i have a 1991 mercury capri convertible 5 speed. i am unsure of the motor size and miles. but i am having a hard time finding parts that i need for it. is it mercury or ford? and can any other parts from other models work for this car?

Response From Loren Champlain Sr Top Rated Answer

Should be a dual overhead cam 1.6L. Not sure what other models may be the same.
Mercury Capri? I would think that would mean it's a Mercury? Ford/Mercury only made these for a very few years, so parts availability would not be good.

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

Oh, I remember the older ones. The latter generation weren't even close to the early Capri's.

Response From Hammer Time

This car flies the Mercury flag but it is Australian made and can be impossible to get parts for. I have a customer that has one and it's been a thorn in my ass every time it comes into the shop. I couldn't even get a lower radiator hose for it. I mean NOWHERE. No dealer, no aftermarket, nothing. Some things are available locally like I had no problem find clutch parts for it. There is a mail order company that the customer told me about but they only carry some limited products.

Question From Rgrandwi on 1998 mercury mountaineer

How do I locate and remove the 4 way flasher relay for a 1998 mercury mountaineer 4 door AWD 5.0L V8?

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Flasher
On your 1998 Mercury Truck Mountaineer 2WD 4.0L EFI , the Flasher is located:
Front seating area, driver side, center of steering column, mounted behind instrument panel

Does this help?

Response From Rgrandwi

I am going to take a look. It is pretty tight in that area. BTW the truck is an AWD V8. Thanks for the response.

2000 Mercury Sable Stalls

Question From wizardplumber on 2000 Mercury Sable Stalls

I have a 2000 Mercury Sable the check engine light is on and i took it to the ford dealer they said it was a bad DPFE (egr) valve and a pcv hose assembly I put the new parts on and it got a little better but it is still stalling after it warms up.
2000 Mercury Sable
The engine a dual overhead cam
Please help

Response From Hammer Time

The DPFE had nothing to do with your stalling in the first place. It may have put the check engine light on but didn't effect the way it ran.

If this is stalling atr idle when coming to a stop and starts right back up, you may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC.

Response From wizardplumber

thanks we will try to replace the IAC it's only $45 at autozone thanks for the help i will let you know how it turns out.
Thanks,
Tom

Response From Hammer Time

Don't forget to clean the throttle body too.

Response From wizardplumber

we will clean the throttle body but someone was saying it could be the Mass Air Flow what do you think.

Response From Hammer Time

I think you should clean the throttle body and IAC as I suggested and don't look any further until you have done that.

Response From wizardplumber Top Rated Answer
