Response From Hammer Time

You probably have a little too much wear in the rings and cylinder walls and you're getting too much blowby now.

Oil in my air filter!

Question From wanderingtommy on Oil in my air filter!

I have a 2001 Subaru Outback, 2.3L, 91000 miles. Just had the oil changed at Jiffy Lube (that's probably my first problem ) and the mechanic showed me my air filter and it had a spot of oil on it. I've changed air filters before and have never seen this. What does it mean?

Thanks in advance,

Response From way2old Top Rated Answer

It means there is a PCV system that is not working properly. Check on that first.

Oil In Air Filter

Question From roysmustang on Oil In Air Filter

I have a 1970 ford pickup with a 302 and a auto trans. It has 200,000 + miles. There is oil in my air filter and in the breather. It has the stock breather on it. What is the cause of this.

Response From Hammer Time

That is usually due to excessive pressure being built up in the crankcase due to bloyby past the rings. Make sure your PCV system is working properly because that can relieve a lot of that.

Note that on that engine, there is a screen filter on the back of the engine, under the PCV that gets plugged up and will cause a problem like that.
