Airports Fuel The War Against Pollution

(NAPSI)—U.S. airports are introducing clean, alternative-fuel vehicles and equipment to decrease pollution from their fleets.

Aviation contributes roughly 2.5 percent of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels, a figure likely to rise without prompt action.

Carbon dioxide is one of the gases that contributes to global warming. At a handful of airports there are electric baggage carts, forklifts, ground power units, tow tractors and shuttle vans as well as taxis and shuttle buses running on compressed natural gas.

At some airports passengers can park and charge electric vehicles for free. Airlines, aircraft manufacturers, cargo companies and other airport tenants must continue to switch to these clean technologies. Passengers need to ask for and use these technologies when available.

A number of airports are now using electric vehicles to help combat pollution.
