1998 Volvo S90 revving issue

Question From anash715 on 1998 Volvo S90 revving issue

So yesterday morning when I was leaving for work when I started my car it just started revving up to about 3500rpm it did it a few more times and then stopped and now it starts fine but when I tap the gas pedal in park it revs to about 4000rpms on its own and drops. Could to be my TPS or maybe the MAF

Response From Discretesignals

Not sure without testing.

The idle speed is determined by the engine computer based on readings it gets from the engine coolant temperature sensor, TPS, engine speed, pressure switch signals, etc. All those things would have to monitored along with the how the PCM is controlling the idle air control motor to give you an idea what is going on and where to look for the problem.

Response From anash715

I'm taking it to the mechanics in the morning but right now I unplugged the battery hoping that reseting the computer could fix the problem

So when you arrive at the mechanics he has to send you away because you already erased all the valuable diagnostic info from the computer. You need to decide who is fixing this car, you or them and them stick with it because you don't want to mess with it yourself and then ask a mechanic to look at it. He won't be real happy about that or able to help much.
