Hey!! This isn't huge, but I am a 16 year old that just got her first car!! Really exciting! There are a few things I want to do to fix it up though and I'm not really sure where to start ( my dad will help me out but I wanted some outside advice as well). Here are the details:

1993 Volvo 240
200,000 miles ( I think)

one speaker is blown ( front driver's side)
the consol is cracked
there are some paint chips
the window has a chip and still looks cloudy and covered with a million tiny spots no matter how many times I clean it.

I know most a superficial but I know nothing about cars and was wondering if there was anything I could do! Nothing major but it would be nice.

If you have a blown speaker, you are better off replacing them. You should replace at least two, (the blown one and It's opposite), but would probably be better off replacing all of them.

Speaker ,Replace it...

Console....you could replace it with a used one or get it repaired.
There is a company called Creative Colors International that does this type of work

Window,have it replaced.
I assume you mean a door glass,might be something your dad can tackle....If it s the windshield,needs to be professionally installed

Hello,
I drive a 1986 Volvo 240 Dl 2.0L. Recently, my lights didnt immediately turn on when I turned the switch on but would come on after some revving. Then they would flicker while I was driving if I hit a bump. Now, I turn the lights on, then I have to flash my high beams twice and hold the high beams on to get all of my lights to work. And it is always twice without fail. My parking lights work fine and make the noise that they are on when I turn on the car, but as soon as I turn to the main lights, nothing, including the lights inside my car, front head lights, and rear lights, work. I've disconnected the plug to the switch and reconnected it and replaced all of my broken fuses, but nothing is changing. I really want to fix this myself because I don't like giving my car to strangers because its like a part of me. Please help.

Best place to make your checks is at the head lamp relay. Do you have a 12 volt test lamp or volt/ohm meter?

Under the dash on the driver's side. Near the kick panel.

Your going to have a difficult time troubleshooting this unless you have some type of tool that can let you know if you have voltage at different points in the circuit for the headlamps and a wiring diagram to trace the circuit.

1st question, tdc compression stroke, how do you have it set, before putting om timming belt, does the reference mark on the crank pulley line up only on that stroke, or on the exaust stroke too. This is a 1987 volvo 240DL, my Haynes manual is to vague.

use that mark then pull your dist. cap off and verify the rotor is pointing at your #1 plug wire then you know your at tdc

well I already pulled the distributor, thinking this was the problem before i found the broken timming belt, however I thank you for your help, now I do I get everything back in line.

This car had been sitting for a few years. I took it for a drive and after about 15 or 20 miles it started to miss very badly or stall out. I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. No change. It always runs fine for a good 10 to 20 minutes on the road. I put some gas treatment for water contamination in, waited a few days, then drove again. Same problem. Then I think it must be no ventilation on gas tank and it is pulling a vacuum. But no hissing sound when remove gas cap. But this time it runs fine for 30 minutes or more. BUT, it stalls out now only when I put it in reverse!! Now I'm thinking something like a big piece of rust is moving around in the tank covering the output for the gas. But maybe it isn't even a fuel problem. I don't want to drop the gas tank for nothing.

gas treatment won't help dead gas and new gas on top of that = bad/weak gas. I would drop tank/ clean it out/ add fresh gas / install new fuel filter, and what you described does sound like a fuel problem.
