Question From sebasche on 1993 Volkswagen Fox Stereo

Hi my name is sebastien. I need help with my 1993 volkswagen fox. what happened is that my old stereo stopped working even though the light on the left is blinking that theirs power going to it. is this a technical issue or is it that the stereo is about 18 years old. also i want to change the stereo can i use any kind of pioneer stereo or is there only specific types.

thanks for the help

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Hey Sebastien: They make an adaptor (interface) such that you don't need to mess with wiring existing in the car. I'm not a sound system nut but do collect old cars (older than this) and don't want a maze of cut wires and hacked splicing.

Lucky that locally I have a shop that does nothing but this stuff and two of old sound systems have quit and couldn't be repaired or bought new originals and I would have paid the insane price but not possible. My only beef with the aftermarket stuff is the controls are not as user friendly as originals such that you need to look at what you are doing vs the originals but sound fine.

Suggestion is not to mess with the car's original wiring,

T

Hello tom,

I wouldnt mind messing with the electronics though i might not want to. What kind of adaptor interface is it that your talking about.
do i need this adaptor or can i just connect a stereo to my current cables in this car.

thanks for the help

Response From kenray

Unless you would definitely prefer to replace your old radio, I would suggest you check all of your fuses first. Most radios these days require two power sources. The blinking light suggests that your constant power source is probably fine, but that you may not have power going to the switched wire.

Response From sebasche

hey kenray,

How would i find the second power source and how would i know if its still working. because i dont want to find out that the power source is the problem and when i buy a new stereo that, that was it.

thanks for the help
