Question From tes on speed sensor

Hello everyone it's a 98 siena 3.0 I could't locate the vehicle speed sensor, thank you,

Response From Discretesignals Top Rated Answer

The vehicle speed sensor is on the transmission.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

tes: Moved here from autobody section again. Are you just playing with us?

T

Response From HT

Tom, when you move these things can you check the box that doesn't leave the link in the old category. This question still shows in auto body category and it's confusing.

Tes, I don't know how you expect to diagnose a car if you can't even figure out how to post a question correctly.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

I'll go get that HT but left it just so show what is routine by "tes" and in trouble w Nick already for that. Brand new here I understand confusion - not ongoing posting mistakes, lack of info and so on,

T

Response From HT

The part that is annoying about that is the flag shows in the Auto body list and when you click on the last post it takes you to the question but never clears the flag from the auto body section so I keep going back to the same question again until I actually open the auto body category to clear the flag..

Question From willyg on 99 Ford Taurus OHV engine trouble with vehicle speed sensor

Hi all, my mother-in-law's car shows a PO500 Vehicle Speed Sensor malfuntion. While I'm driving the speedometer drops to zero every now and then, then goes back to normal. If I replace this sensor, then would I also have to replace the speedometer cable? The auto parts stores say the sensor comes either with cable or not, and a big difference in price. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions as I am unsure about this. Thank you

Response From Hammer Time

The speed sensor replaces the cable. One is a mechanical system and one is an electronic system. The speed sensor may resolve it but it could also be related wiring or the PCM triggering the code.

Response From willyg

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. I thought the sensor and cable were two different components, that's why when I looked it up for pricing, it said the sensor with or without cable. Do you mean to not replace the speedometer cable? Thank you

Response From Hammer Time

No car uses both. The sensor replaces the cable. You do not have a cable.

Response From willyg

Ok, thanks very much for the information. I appreciate it!

Response From willyg

Does anyone know the location of the speed sensor for this car?

Down behind the engine on top of the transmission. Look under where the exhaust crosses.

98 mercury tracer vehicle speed sensor

Question From jubb on 98 mercury tracer vehicle speed sensor

So my transmission has been not shifting into 4th gear lately and has been shifting kinda funny. I finally got an error code which corresponded with a vehicle speed sensor code. The vehicle speed sensor on the 98 tracer plugs into the transmission.

I bought a new vehicle speed sensor and started the repair job. I got screw out that holds it in place, but it will not come out, and I have tried everything I can think of. I've been able to spin the sensor in 360's using vice grips, but it will not come out. I've been working it to try to get stuff under it to pry it up, but I just can't seem to get anything the right size and shape that I can get under it to pry it out.

Do I have to put the car in a certain gear? Do I have to drain all the fluid out? Does this mean the tranny is hosed? I'm in serious need of some advice here.

Thanks,

Justin

Try spraying wd40 on it....let it soak in then start the pulling...they are very aggravating, they stick because the o-ring has swelled and hardened,...just have a little patience and it will come out.

Ask you mechanic to check for poor connections. Sorry but without seeing this in person that’s about all I can suggest.
