  • The timing cover is a critical part of the engine. It allows proper lubrication of the timing chain protecting it from damage. Timing covers can become damaged from corrosion or over tightening. When this happens engine oil can leak resulting significant engine damage. ATP timing covers fit and function just like the original part ensuring long life and durability.

2002 chryler t&c 3.8 injector on only three

Question From eandrauto on 2002 chryler t&c 3.8 injector on only three

i have a 02 chrysler t&c with a 3.8. wanted to see if any one ran into this problem before.
it has injector pulse on only three cyl. and spark on only three. nothing out of the pcm on the other three.
tried a good known pcm but still the same problem, not sure if it has to get reprogramed. to wipe out the problem.

Response From Hammer Time

Which 3 cylinders?

Do you have power supply to those injectors?

Response From eandrauto

CYLINDERS 2, 3, 4 . POWER IS THERE, NOT GROUNDING OUT FROM PCM. IM PRETTY SURE ITS THE PCM CAUSE IF IT WAS CAM OR CRANK IT WOULD BE ALL INJECTORS. THE SUB HARNESS IS GOOD. JUST NOTHING OUT OF THE PCM. BUT DID TRY A GOOD USED ONE AND SAME PROBLEM THATS WHATS GETTING ME. WASNT SURE IF IT HAD TO BE REPROGRAMED

Response From Hammer Time

That's really odd because there is nothing in common to those 3 cylinder beside the connector to the PCM or the PCM itself. I seriously doubt it is a programming issue. It could be burned out quad drivers in the PCM but I would more suspect and issue with the wiring harness.

Response From Discretesignals

PCM setting any trouble codes?

I'd would be curious to see what the cam and crank sensor waveforms look like.

I don't understand how you can have spark out of 1,5,6 and not 2,3,4. Its a waste spark system, so you should be seeing spark on 2,3,4 during exhaust stroke when the PCM fires the coils for 1,5,6 for their compression stroke. That right there tells you the coil drivers are good and the PCM is capable of controlling them. Has to be an PCM input problem.

Response From eandrauto

NO TROUBLE CODES AT ALL. BUT WHEN COMMANDING THEM ON WITH THE SCANNER IT SENDS THE SIGNAL. DONT HAVE MY HANDS ON A LAB SCOPE RITE NOW BUT CRANK AND CAM SENSORS WERE REPLACED BY ANOTHER SHOP THEY GAVE UP ON IT.

Response From Discretesignals

Does the ATM test also fire those injectors?

Response From eandrauto

YES JUST NOT WHEN CRANKING OVER WITH THE KEY. AT THE FIRST CRANK THE NOID LIGHT COMES ON ONCE, THEN IT WONT COME BACK UNTIL YOU TURN SWITCH OFF THEN CRANK OVER AGAIN.

Response From Discretesignals

I'd really be checking the cam and crank sensor waveforms next. You have control with your scan tool on the injectors and coils. It has to be some weird input problem.

Response From eandrauto

I'LL GET MY HANDS ON A SCOPE TOMMOROW AND CHECK THE WAVESFORMS. JUST SEARCHING TO SEE IF ANY ONE RAN INTO THIS PROBLEM BEFORE BECAUSE I NEVER HAD. THANKS FOR EVERYONES INPUT ILL CHECK THE WAVES AND REPLY. THANKS AGAIN

Response From Discretesignals

Just curious, what is the repair history on this vehicle? Has the transmission or flex plate been off?

way to go DS . you was knocking at the door.

Response From nickwarner

Before your next reply look at the left side of your keyboard and press the third button from the bottom once. You don't get help any faster when its all in caps lock and its actually very rude.

97 Sebring is running very hot

Question From hackett9315 on 97 Sebring is running very hot

Hello. I have a 97 Chrysler Sebring LXI coupe. In the past two months, I got a new timing belt, new spark plugs, new spark plug wires, new distributor cap, new valve cover and at least three oil refills/changes. After this, my car ran perfectly for 1 week, then my check engine light came on while I was out of town for the weekend. I came back and the light went off, and now my temp gauge is running very hot, except when I have my foot on NEITHER the brake nor the accelerator. It runs hottest when I am idling. I am leaking something, but only every other day! I have coolant in there, so now what? Is this going to cost me another huge sum of money?

Thanks for all your help!

Response From leevit2stever

OK....first of all u need to see if your cooling fan,or fans are kicking on
while engine is running turn on your A/C when u do....at least 1 fan should kick on
if not 1st check the temperature sending unit (sensor) the fluid leak may just be from the overflow tube
if the fans are not working

Response From autojoe Top Rated Answer

Is leaking around timing cover? If so water pump could be bad.

Question From chaneyclan on water pump

Have a 2002 chrysler town and country 3.8 litre engine. While taking water pump off, i broke two of the bolts and cannot get them out. Any suggestions? Cannot reach them with an easy out or drill.
It is the top one and the bottom one, 3 left.

Response From zmame

I would suggest welding a nut on to the remaining bolt if it's flush or protruding a little first (if possible). If that fails then I would drill it out.

Response From Discretesignals Top Rated Answer

Those are a PITA. Had one 2 weeks ago that the customer attempted to replace the water pump and snapped off three bolts. The puny 6mmx1.0 bolts that break are usually mechanically welded because the holes they screw into aren't blind. The end of the bolts are exposed to the weather and due to dissimilar metal contact they weld themselves to the aluminium.

You can probably get a right angle drill in there, but forget about using an easy out. The best thing to do is drill out the broken bolt(s) making the hole one size bigger and re-tapping it for a larger bolt. I suggest using studs and nuts instead of bolts as a replacement fastener. If you can get the cover off and on a drill press, your holes will be a lot prettier and you won't have to worry about a hand held drill walking off the broken bolt.

On the vehicle we repaired, we ended up removing the timing cover to drill out the broken bolts.

Response From Sidom

Those can be accessed with a drill. A 90 degree drill will get in there or you can take a motor mount loose and raise or lower the engine to make it more accessable for a regular drill.

If the bolt were just plain rusted & not crossthreaded, it would be best to soak them with PB penetrating oil for a while. While not easy to find, a lefthanded drill bit works real good on broken rusty bolts since it is spinning in the opposite direction, I have had ones just pull the bolt out I was drill after a good soaking. You want make sure you center punch the bolt so the bit is drilling the exact center of the bolt because if the bit doesn't get it out & an ez out doesn't work either then you last option is to drill the bolt out & insert a heli-coil.

Good luck......one thing to consider, if you don't have the proper tools to do this, it would be best to tow it to a place that does because once you start drilling & tapping, if you aren't exact, you might just wind up costing yourself double, triple or more if you do have to take it to a shop.
Removing broken bolts is bad enough but when someone has gone in and messed it up, it makes it way harder and the labor price usually reflects that....
