2004 chevy trailblzr-throttle position sensor replace

Question From stevieray89 on 2004 chevy trailblzr-throttle position sensor replace

2004 chevy trailblazer-4.2liter-78k miles
Wifes truck--She called and said the truck was all of a sudden running real sluggish.....max speed 5-10mph-Has had "check engine"lite on for about 3-4 weeks---Just now when the sluggishness started .....this message was replaced with something like" low engine power" or "reduced engine power"-diagnostics check by uncertified personnel revealed engine codes relating to the throttle position sensor......it appears that there is one located on the throttle body and possibly one @ the pedal????? If so..........how do i determine which sensor.......and how hard is it for the average unmechanic guy to change out the sensor on the throttle body? I don't even know where the throttle body is so you get an idea of how much of a mechanic i am..........and is it possible for it to be a fuel filter problem? Thanks beforehand for any help on this matter.

Stevie Ray

Response From Hammer Time

You have a "Drive by wire" throttle system. It uses 2 TPSs, one ranging up and one ranging down. If one goes bad, the computer defaults to only partial throttle. You will have to replace the pedal position sensor to resolve the problem.

Response From stevieray89 Top Rated Answer

Thanks again for the quick response. One more question.....so i have some sense of how this works.............how would i know if i had to replace the "other" sensor? Once again.....thanks beforehand.............
Stevie Ray

Response From Hammer Time

They are both together in one part so you don't have a choice.

Response From stevieray89

Great......first time i've used this type of site for anytype of repair or diagnostic information.........looks like it works great............

'94 Camaro dies when you give it gas

Question From Shell on '94 Camaro dies when you give it gas

Okay this is the story on the camaro...

The car would start fine but as soon as you give it gas it dies. Would this be attributed to the E.G.R valve? It dies as soon as the gas pedal is hit. So i was thinking about checking the throttle sensor too. Any info would greatly help, thanks.

Response From way2old Top Rated Answer

Check fuel pressure and the throttle position sensor. If fuel pressure is low, it will idle but not allow enough fuel for it to accelerate. Changing thwe fuel filter may be a good idea. The throttle position sensor can also cause that problem if it is broken inside.

Response From Shell

that was going to be the next thing i was going to check but i was unsure. thank you

scheduled maintenance, NGK, synthetic oil

I had and issue where my car would feel like it was having loss of power and the it would resume. sort of like a gust of wind hitting the car. one day I drove the car maybe 50 miles and the cars check engine light came on the car went in dull mode and would not accelerate I drove autozone and they gave me code p2135 after the car cooled off it went back to normal but the check engine light was still on. I cleaned the throttle body and the check engine light went away. only problem is that when the car is driven for long periods you can feel that loss of power. I feel like the car is going to crap out and leave me stranded. I don't know what to do since I have no codes but a car that's not running good.

Response From Discretesignals Top Rated Answer

The trouble code you were getting was for an abnormal throttle position sensor reading between the two TPS sensors in the throttle body.

This could be from a bad throttle position sensor, throttle position sensors' circuit or wiring problem, or a faulty engine computer. Your going to need your mechanic to diagnose the problem.

Since this is throttle by wire, when the computer detects a problem with either TPS signal it is going to go into the equivalent of Windows safe mode and limit engine power.

Response From losthesal

sorry it took me a while to respond. i hit the forums and it said my TPS (throttle position sensor) was giving out. i tried to find it but for my car the individual part couldn't be bought, mitusbishi would only sell the entire throttle body. i could find it for both the 2.0 turbo on non turbo but not for 2.4L doing more research i found out the outlander uses exact same engine and the part was sold by itself for the outlander. i replaced it and car has been fine ever since

Response From Discretesignals

Thanks for following up on this and happy to read you got your problem resolved

DODE RAM 91 IDLE POORLY

Question From anonimous_hidden on DODE RAM 91 IDLE POORLY

Hey maybe you guys can help me.... bare with me ... I just recently cleaned the CARB ON MY DODGE RAM 91 3.9l v6 and it was running like a champ ... so I was feeling good and decided to get a new oxygen sensor since my carb was clean and to get a good reading ... went to the car parts store and the guy sold me a generic one , well that’s when things started , at idle it almost chokes out and then it revs up and starts the loop again , changed the throttle position sensor for a new one , also took a look at the map sensor and it seems to work and also gave a clean up on the idle position sensor ( it looks like a solenoid with a bolt head coming out )now after all that when my throttle position sensor is connected and I disconnect the map sensor vacuum hose the problem is mitigated a little and runs a bit smoother but if I disconnect the throttle position sensor and re connect the map sensor vacuum hose it runs good again . So to summarize, is this because the oxygen sensor is not the right one ( I connected the cables identical to all the installation guides I could find on the net) or is this some other problem ? I would hate to go get a original part for no reason (generic cost 250 pesos (I live in Mexico) but the original is something like 800 pesos) please if any body has an idea please share.
