2005 Hyundai Elantra GLS jerks and revs when foot off gas

Showing 2 out of 6 Posts | Show 4 Hidden Posts
Question From alisha c on 2005 Hyundai Elantra GLS jerks and revs when foot off gas

When I take my foot off the gas, the car jerks a little back and forth. When I come to a stop the car will jerk and rev for a second or two and then the idle falls quickly and will occasionally stall. I've had the fuel system cleaned, the transmission fluid flushed and filled and a tune-up all within the last three weeks.

Response From frostie

Have you found out what the problem is as my car is doing the same and everyone thinks I am insane as it won't do it for them.

Response From Hammer Time

Please don't respond to old questions.

Response From nickwarner

get the codes scanned and post them here.We need the code numbers themselves, not just the generic descriptions.

Response From alisha c Top Rated Answer

The codes for the throttle position sensor and the o2 sensor came up. Do those match the symptoms?

Response From Hammer Time

We need the code numbers themselves, not just the generic descriptions.

1999 Hyundai Accent Trans Problems!!!!!

Question From Collinsc on 1999 Hyundai Accent Trans Problems!!!!!

I have a 1999 Hyundai Accent and its my first car. The trans is automatic and nobody can figure out whats wrong with it. My check engine light is on at all times. My overdrive button doesnt work and didnt when we bought the car in August 2007. The car has no power when going up hill and i have to shift down manually when stopping just so i can take off again at normal speed....the problems seem to get worse in the summer when its hot.... when driving on the highway at 65-70 my rpms are at 4000-4500. And now it only goes in reverse if i put it in drive first. I had the throttle position sensor replaced when i bought the car and the speed sensor...
does anyone know what this might be?....

Response From dave284

The first thing is to have the check engine trouble codes retreived, autozone does it free....that will most likely point out the problem or let you know the the next steps need to take....the codes will also help us in finding the trouble in other words it takes out some of the guess work

Response From Collinsc

we did that when i went to get it inspected in August and the speed sensor code kept showing up even though i just had it replaced and the guy who put it in double checked it to make sure it was in right....no other codes have shown up.

Response From dave284 Top Rated Answer

O.k. ....that tells me the problems in the trans/trans parts....Here an IDEAL, take it to AAMOCO...tell the service manager that youre a regular customer of autozone and was refered to have the trans checked out and there would be no charge for this......that might shed some light on your problem...it could be good or bad news either way you will know

Question From jimmy01 on 2004 hyundai sonata 4cyl

car has stalled several times been in the shop replaced cam poition sensor, oil pressure sensor, throttle position sensor, timing belt tensioner. after warm up it seems to idle to low to where the oil light flickers and has a vibration more pronounced at idle under load. no warning lights are on... any ideas ???

Response From nickwarner Top Rated Answer

Have you ever cleaned your throttle plate or your IAC bore? Are there any codes? If so what are they? What is your fuel pressure? Does this do this all the time, only when cold, only when warmed up, only on the second tuesday of the month at 4:15? You say you replaced the timing belt tensioner, did you change the belt and idlers as well? Have you checked for vacuum leaks? How many miles are on it? Have you ever changed the spark plugs?

There are a lot of things that can cause this. Need specific details to give a direction to go in. Stop throwing parts at it. You got nowhere and just wasted money.

2001 Hyundai Elantra No power...

Question From JoshMc on 2001 Hyundai Elantra No power...

Ok here's the rundown, 2.0 engine acts sluggish at times, what I have noticed is this if it's HOT out. And once the car gets hot to it's normal operating Temp. The acceleration sucks. When it's cool, the acceleration is great, new fuel pump and filter, I have hollowed out pre and cat installed non fouler on downstream o2 sensor, had the head reworked at head shop, new head gasket, new intake gasket, installed new water pump and timing belt, new plugs and wires, new map sensor, new idle air control valve , throttle positioning sensor, coil packs are 2 years old, car is not equipped with a mass air flow sensor, the car is throwing a code for a bad speed sensor, it is equipped with an input and output speed sensor, it shifts a little hard at times, because of the bad speed sensor but very rarely also transmission has been flushed with dealer recommended fluid. The car has acted sluggish before i did any work and it still dose... Any one have any Ideas...

Response From Hammer Time

The car has acted sluggish before i did any work and it still dose.

Gee, what a shock

So, you throw a couple hundred dollars worth of parts at the car and then destroy another few hundred worth of needed converters instead of simply paying for the correct diagnosis and you think you're the smart one?

If you really need to throw that much money away, simply giving it away would be a lot less work.

Response From JoshMc

Damn yous guys are fools... you want to talk $ Sh#t and you don't no what the F" your talking about, for 1 let me explain myself, y i put all these parts on this $500 better, that gets 38 miles to the gallon...for the first reason, Coil packs previous owner did not change plugs and the result was coil pack shorted out on #2 cylinder, so i changed both... throttle position sensor went out two weeks ago, the car kept revving up and down, that fixed the problem...map sensor was not throwing the correct voltage at idle or while it was revved up to 2 grand...idle air control valve, car was dying at low idle, to much air in intake....Head job, Car would run hot with AC on, bubbles coming up through radiator...and since i was taking head off , y wouldn't i replace timing belt and water pump...catalytic converters, both were clogged, No i am not spending $600 on cat's when the car isn't even worth $500...Most of all these problems arose over the last 4 months... Now lets get this straight, i came here for help not to be criticized, So are you going sit there and keep talking $ sh#t or are you going to help me diagnose this problem.

Response From Hammer Time

OH, so sorry...................... I'll get you a refund right away.

Response From GC Top Rated Answer

Any chance you have access to a scan tool with streaming data? Why did you put a non-fouler on the 02? Check engine light on? Code #s if so. Sounds like a mess.

Response From JoshMc

no i dont have access to a scan tool, the non fouler is to fool the ecu that there is not a low bank!

Response From Discretesignals

Hack job. Nothing like reading about a person that threw a bunch of parts on and hollowed a couple cats out instead of actually doing some diagnosis.

Question From Guest on 2001 Elantra- High Idling Speed

I have a 2001 Hyundai Elantra with 63,000 miles, automatic. It's been meticulously maintained. However, recently the car has been idling at around 1500-2000rpm. Today, after driving, I parked the car and let it idle for a few seconds. All the sudden it started revving up to over 4000rpm. It was as if a ghost had been pushing on the gas peddle. Any ideas on what could be the problem? Thanks!

Egad Zukes!! That's nothing short of dangerous! There should be an idle speed motor at the throttle body that is getting bad info. I'm guessing from your post that this isn't just a sticking cable.

DON'T WAIT!! Please let us know what the fix was for the world to know, I don't! T

Do you think this could be the Throttle Positioning Sensor?

It could be and if you think you have time with this just start throwing everything out.

If you think you can handle a car a 4000 RPMs when you don't wan't that it's your call but please don't be the car behind me in traffic, T
