Nissan Altima S 2005 is making banging like sound on hump

Question From jigneshjsoni on Nissan Altima S 2005 is making banging like sound on hump

I have recently bought 1995 Nissan Altima S.
When I have someone sitting in the passenger seat and I come across a hump while entering underground garage, the car touches something on the hump. When I am sitting alone in the car, it does not make any such sound.
What can be this due to ? is it the spring of the car on passenger side which is not working properly or something else ? How much can it cost to replace this spring?
Is this a part of safety , when we buy a new vehicle ?

Response From Loren Champlain Sr Top Rated Answer

jignesh; I'd recommend having the car raised on a lift to inspect the exhaust system. Most of the exhaust systems are supported by, believe it or not, large rubber bands. These will break and allow the muffler/tail pipe to hang low. With the added weight of a second person, may be 'just enough' for the exhaust to be hitting the 'humps'. The Altima doesn't use conventional 'springs'. The front struts have springs, but it is very rare for one of these to break.

My 95 nissan pickup smokes and goes dead...

Question From 95nissan on My 95 nissan pickup smokes and goes dead...

Hi, I am new to repairing cars, so I am in the dark...
I have been fixing my 95 Nissan Pickup for a while now. It started with going dead when Idling/driving very slow or changing from drive to reverse. Then we noticed that white smoke would start to shoot out the exhaust pipe when the truck would get up to running temperature. We did all the regular tune up stuff (oil change, new spark plugs, new spark plug batteries, new ignition rotor and new spark plug wires). I stuck my hand near the exhaust pipe and it was moisture coming out of the pipe. We ran a compression test on it, and in the first spark plug port, the pressure was significantly lower. So we tore down the head until we got to the head gasket this afternoon, expecting to see a broken gasket. When we pulled the gasket off, there wasnt a break in the gasket. I did notice that the intake manifold gasket was in pretty bad shape. But we are at a stand still right now, would it be a cracked head? I have no idea on where to go from here.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks!!!

Response From 95nissan

Thanks for the info on the head! Also, when I was taking the head apart, I noticed that two of the bolts that stick out from the head to connect the exhaust manifold were missing... so could this be where moisture is getting in?

Response From Jeff Norfolk Top Rated Answer

Could be getting a bit of moisture in there but probably wouldn't cause the kind of white smoke you said "shoot out of the tail pipe". More than likely coming from the cooling system. Especially since you are having performance trouble with the the truck.

Response From Jeff Norfolk

Sometimes you can see a crack in a head but you kinda need to know what you are looking for. Your best bet since you already have the head off is to take it to a machine shop and have them check it for you. They can find cracks that you can't see. Also the can take care of any valve trouble you may have and reseat them for you. Even if there are no cracks the 2 or 3 hundred you will spend to have it checked and a valve job done will be worth not having to tear it back apart. And if the crack is minimal then most good machine shops can repair it for you. Big savings there rather then buying a new one. Good Luck

2006 Nissan Murano making knowcking sound.

Question From jonerover on 2006 Nissan Murano making knowcking sound.

Can someone help me about this knocking sound happening from my car? It happens only when I take my foot off the gas. It doesn’t happen while I accelerate or break, but only when I slow down by taking the foot of the accelerator. I think it has something to do about some issues with suspension, not sure about it. There is this repair shop named link deleted ....... not allowed near my home, but I want to have a look before going to a repair shop. Can anyone give any advice here?

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Noises can be tough to describe. This seems aggravated by shifts in load on engine changes so some likely things on the list to check are motor mounts, anything loose, exhaust system (all parts) high on list too.

For that try just tapping on it w engine off with a rubber hammer back tail pipe to front you may find it duplicates the noise?

I'd ask you to gently brake stand* this in place with a helper doing that while you look out of harms way but rather you let a tech do that or find this noise for now,

T
* To me means hold brakes hard and apply drive force shifting into forward then try again and reverse while NOT moving at all which puts loads on the drivetrain....

Accelerating too fast causes tinny sound 300zx

Question From Wardvonverde on Accelerating too fast causes tinny sound 300zx

My '96 Nissan 300zx with about 112,000 miles is running fairly well.

The only problem is that when I accelerate faster than usual, the engine transition from making a low-pitched hum to a much higher pitched sound coming from something like a tin can with a rock rolling around inside of it. It doesn't seem to affect the performance, but the sound is unsettling.

I don't ever really come across the issue if I accelerate slowly but it's really annoying when minivans are passing me from a stop light.

Response From Discretesignals

Can you record the noise and upload it to a video hosting site and then paste the link in here?

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Seems consistent with an exhaust heat shield coming apart. Sometimes just a tap on them with rubber hammer or even on tail pipe with engine off can make a noise. If so there are assorted ways to deal with some up to replacing that whole pipe or part with those on them. Should be an easy check to rule that in or out,
