1996 chevy cav keeps buring out tail light bulbs HELP

Question From vicchadwick on 1996 chevy cav keeps buring out tail light bulbs HELP

i have a 1996 chevy cavalier and my pass taillight keeps buring out my bulbs and now its not working at all wheni replace my bulbs

Response From c_elliott

Kind of sounds like a ground issue

Response From zmame Top Rated Answer

Could be a possibility.. to go out and say its a ground problem is taking a shot in the dark. it's easier to check for power first. Once you know you have power you can use that power source to test your ground, instead of running a power source from battery to the back of the car.

Response From zmame

Check the bulb socket for damage or corrosion, If in doubt replace they are cheap. Also inspect the tail light lens assembly for moisture in the lens. It may also be electrical to. You can use a test light or meter and check to make sure you have power at the 2 of the 3 wires with your taillights and signals on .

Axiom tail light bulb replacement

Question From Kgraves on Axiom tail light bulb replacement

2002 Isuzu Axiom. Rear tail light is out and there are two screws that come out easily. Once they are out there are no visible fasteners of any other type that appear to be holding the lens in but is will not come out. It seems to be held in place at the forward most point of the lens but again there are no fasteners forward. I looked at the inside panel to see if there was access to the lens there or even just the bulbs for replacement but the panel is the whole rear inside panel of the cargo area and that seems very unlikely and a huge undertaking just to do a bulb change.

Any ideas?

Response From DrElectrics Top Rated Answer

Isuzu's are a pain in the butt. The giant undertaking of removing the inside panel may be the way to go im afraid. Is there any screws on the inside of the panel, directly behind the tail-light? If so, try and unscrew them. If it doesnt release the light, you will have to go underneath the barrier to find those screws.

1992 Corolla right tail light not working

Question From pullngo on 1992 Corolla right tail light not working

1992 Corolla-274000 miles/automatic. (Brake light-in same socket as
the non working tail light- and all other lights work good)
I have 10 volts at the socket (from bulb contact to socket edge-
ground) and 10 volts if I use a second ground (no change). Removed the
bulb contact disk from socket, touch bulb to the contact and ground
the edge of the bulb with a seperate wire and I get same result (tail
light won't work - brake light works. I'm confused - seems like I have
a complete circuit, but the tail light bulb won't light. PS - I was
using three different known to be good bulbs while doing this, type
1157. Please Help, don't want a ticket, thanks PullnGo.

I Will Also Add: The tail light bulb is an 1157, so it has
two elements - 1 for tail light and 1 for brake light. So it is one
bulb that has the tail and brake light in it. The socket that the bulb
goes into has two contact points, this socket has two power wires (one
for tail light and one for brake light) and a ground wire (which shows
a good ground) going to it as well, but no tail light - Hope I didn't make this too long winded...

Response From DanD

Sounds like a partially open power feed wire or connection; that when the bulb is installed and a load put on the circuit (lights turned on), something is going open. (Loosing connection)
Maybe try using a test light for the testing of the circuit; why I say this is that a high impendence voltmeter will not apply a load on a circuit; it measures potential voltage on a circuit but does not take anything away from the circuit. A test light uses current flow to light its bulb; this current flow will apply load.
Have the test light lead clipped to a known good ground. With the probe start at the socket’s tail light to bulbs contact. If the light doesn’t light move to the back of the socket and test the (I believe) green wire, leading into the socket. Keep moving away from the socket until you can get the test light’s bulb to light. Once there you’ve found the problem; it could be a corroded wire, where the insulation has become damaged allowing the copper wire to rot.
If by chance the test light does light at the sockets contact with the bulb removed; try reinstalling the 1157 bulb and then test the green wire. The test light bulb by itself may not be enough load on the circuit to cause whatever to go open.
I don’t think the problem will be to far away from the socket; because you said all other tail lights are working; this same green wire feeds all of the rear tail, marker and license plate lights.
You may end up probing into the actual wire with the test light probe; if so, make sure you reinsulated the puncture holes with a bit of silicone.

Dan.

A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++. Mr. Dan. What can I say except - "PERFECT". I followed your Direction word for word and it went exactly as you said. There is a connector just inside the body (behind removable jack panel) about 8 to 12 inches away. The Green wire had a bad connection on the opposing side. I securely repaired the connection and siliconed my test spots . I went when my test light nearly blinded me where the wire could take the load. I rely heavily on my multi-meters for testing. I had to make up a test light from and old car socket and bits of wire. I'm going to buy a decent test light now (Thanks to you). You light up my tail light, da da da da. changing the tail light on a 2002 ford focus zx5

Question From Guest on changing the tail light on a 2002 ford focus zx5

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to change the tail light bulb on a 2002 zx5. I unscrewed the nut from the hatch but I don't know how to actually remove the cover to replace the bulb. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Response From Guest

Open hatch. Theres an access hole inside towards taillight. Unscrew plastic knob by hand. Along side of taillight -(outside of car)- in the drip rail- there is a philips head screw. Undo this and pop taillight assembly out. Turn bulb holder to remove. Reverse process to install.

tail lights and running lights not working

Question From DomC56 on tail lights and running lights not working

Hi I have a 2005 Pontiac Vibe, I just noticed my tail lights and front running
lights are not working. I changed the rear tail light bulbs, and I replaced the
fuse even though it looked fine. Is their another fuse or a circuit breaker that I'm not seeing?

Dom...

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Is there power at that fuse at all? Test it with a test light with lights on not just by looks. It may not have power to it at all,

T

Response From DomC56

Hi Tom thanks for getting back to me.

I'll check that when I get out of work tonight, I wish they didn't have the fuse block under the dash, what a pain to get at.

thanks again

dom...

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Hey - The engineers get paid well to place things so you have to stand on your head to do anything!

Point is if no power is at the correct fuse then we gotta find out why,

T

Response From DomC56

I checked and theirs no power at the fuse at all, is the switch before the fuse or after it.

Response From Sidom

The fuse for the tail lights should be in the box under the hood.
That fuse supplies power to the tail relay in the junction block under the dash. Is that what you are checking that has no power? That fuse does supply power for both the control & load sides of the relay........

Response From DomC56

Hi thanks for the reply,

I was checking the fuse maked "tail" under the dash, it has no power on either side of it. I'll have to check under the hood for the other fuses. I left the owners manual at work but I don't remember seeing any fuse marked tail lights under the hood, just the one under the dash. I'll take a better look tomorrow before I go to work.

Thanks again for the help.

dom...

Response From Hammer Time

Try checking it with the switch on. It may be in the circuit after the switch.

Response From DomC56 Top Rated Answer

Hi Thanks for the reply

I did have the switch on when I checked for power at the fuse, their was nothing on either side of the fuse.

dom...

Response From DomC56

I just thought of something else, I just had the windshield replaced, do you think the fellow doing that could have done something?

Response From Hammer Time

That 15amp tail fuse is powered directly from the 100amp main fuse in the power distribution center so you might want to check that again. After the 15amp fuse, it goes to a tail lamp relay so be real sure about that fuse being dead.

Response From DomC56

I do have power at the fuse, would my next check be the relay? if it is where would I find it? I do see a relay mounted on the side of the car under the dash just behind the e break. This would be a lot easier if I had a wire diagram to follow.

dom..
