2007 Suzuki Reno w/ 92,000 miles, brake issues

Question From goldfishtheory_girl@yahoo.com on 2007 Suzuki Reno w/ 92,000 miles, brake issues

Okay so I had new brake shoes and rotors installed onthe front of my reno. They worked great for one day and then the next day the car will not hold brake fluid. The inside of both back tires are drenched with liquid and under the hood I've discovered a mysterious very narrow approx. 2 feet hose that isnt connected to anything at either end. The brake pedal goes all the way to the floor and does nothing as far as helping to slow or stp the car. Same withthe emergency brake... What's going on? Is is something that i can fix at home?

Response From HT

OK, so you have a leak and someone is going to have to determine what is leaking. I would be very surprised if it wasn't the result of something they did.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Morris - He/she had the work done and this happened to rear when fronts were worked on. A part is left (unknown) and has no service or "emergency" brake. As said by OP rear wheels covered in fluid. This job failed no doubt and shop should tend to this IMO. BOTH rear wheels at that?! Something went real wrong all at once.

My wild guess is bleeders for rear broke off, perhaps removed to extract or use a repair bleeder and may have used heat in excess. Park cable left un attached could be the part not connected? All guesses and I say shop that touched it with this type of wild problem needs to go back by tow truck now,

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Guessing you let a shop do this. Fronts needed attention and now leaking in rear? They might have bled out entire system and had a fight with a rear and things didn't go well. Parking brake should be all separate from hydraulic system and dunno but some are inside the calipers of the rear subject to getting messed up. Of course don't drive it and call the place that did the work is best I can suggest,

2007 Suzuki Reno - several problems

Question From kb12345 on 2007 Suzuki Reno - several problems

Hello all!

I found this forum through Google, because I could really use some advice on my car, and I'm too flat broke at the moment to take it to a repair shop.

I drive a 2007 Suzuki Reno, with 67000 miles on it. There are several problems with it, but right now the biggest one, and my main concern, is the air conditioner/heat. For the past month, it has only been working intermittently. A few weeks ago, I got in my car one Monday morning, and then turned on the heat, but nothing came out. There was no noise, or anything, there was just simply nothing at all coming out of the vents. It was like that for the rest of the week. When I got in my car that Saturday, I tried turning it on (just as I had done every day that week, just to see if it would work) and to my great surprise and delight, it actually worked. It kept working like normal for the rest of the week, but then the next Monday I got in and it had once again stopped working. Now, yesterday, it has started working again. What could be causing this?

I wonder if this problem is at all tied in with the car's other issues. I don't know anything about cars, but I wonder if it just has a bad electrical system. When I first got this car about 3 years ago, the check engine light came on the second day I was driving it. At the time I lived at home, and my dad took it somewhere and they said it was fine. Anyway, that light's been on ever since then. However, more recently I've had other dashboard lights come on. For example, the airbag light has been on for several months now. Also, when I plug in my ipod, you can't hear it unless you pull the cord tight, in a certain direction. I've taken to just wrapping the cord around the rearview mirror and pulling down on it. At first I thought there was something wrong with the iPod, but it works fine everywhere else so it has to be the car. Also, don't know if this has anything to do with it, but recently a couple of my headlights have gone out.

I should probably also mention that I am badly in need of new front tires. Again, I don't know if this has anything to do with the car's problems, but since I don't know anything about cars, I figured I should mention it just in case.

Anyway, I would greatly appreciate any and all advice! Thank you!

Response From Discretesignals Top Rated Answer

For the AC/Heater system it appears from your description that the blower fan isn't coming on. You won't have an air coming from the vents if the blower isn't working.

The trick is to check the electrical circuits of the blower when the problem is occurring, to determine where the fault lies. To tackle something like this yourself, you would need an electrical schematic, volt/ohm meter, and a basic understanding of how the circuit operates.

The check engine light and ABS light are turned on by their respective electronic control units to indicate that there is a fault in one or more of the systems that those control units monitor. When a fault occurs the control unit stores a trouble code to help the tech determine which system/subsystem to begin diagnosing at. To get the engine codes you can plug a code reader into the diagnostic port under the dash. To get the abs codes you'll need an enhanced scan tool.

If you have no experience troubleshooting electrical circuits or the equipment on hand, you'll probably have to take it into a repair shop.

Well crud that sounds complicated. I suppose I will have to bite the bullet and take it in somewhere.

Thank you for your advice, it is very much appreciated!!

Seized seat belts after airbag deployment

Question From w0cky on Seized seat belts after airbag deployment

Greetings all -- this isn't an auto body question per se, but this seemed like the closest related subforum.

Had a fender bender a while back in which the airbags were deployed. The car is a 2006 Suzuki Reno with about 50k miles. I have since had the front bumper replaced by a body shop and the car looks good and drives normally again. I can't afford to replace the dash and airbags at the moment (estimated at around $2500), but I do at least need working seat belts.

Evidently when the airbags are deployed, the seat belts are also seized. Is this permanent? I would love to know if there's a way to un-seize them or if anyone has any other suggestions or advice on the seat belt front.. If this would be better posted in a different subforum let me know, thanks!

Response From Hammer Time

The control module for the restraint system is a one time use module. Once the bags are deployed, it no longer works.

Response From w0cky

Thanks for the quick response! I gathered that it has "gone off" but I don't need any kind of working control unit, I just need mechanically retractable seat belts in the vehicle that work.

Response From w0cky

I've looked at some aftermarket "universal" seatbelts that I'm trying to determine the viability of, fit-wise, which I'm guessing might be my only option.. but it would be great if I could use the existing mechanism and belts somehow.

Response From Discretesignals

Taken from service information

The pretensioner is an electronically controlled pyrotechnical reactor which reduce seat belt slack when it is active with air bags.
The front seat belt pretensioner must be replaced after an accident that cause its activation.

There is no service procedure for repairing the seat belt pretensioner. Probably because of the safety issue involved. Your best course of action is to replace the seat belt pretensioner with an OEM part.

Response From Hammer Time

Doesn't it need a module also?

Yes it does. Just wondering, but why hasn't insurance picked up on this?

The owner of the car had liability insurance only (unbelievable, I know), and there was no damage to anything else so we didn't figure there was much of anything to report.. Do you think the insurance co would do anything to help? I just assumed not based on the minimal policy. I just drove home with the air bags flopping around and we took it in to get the front end bits replaced a couple months later.

So basically I'd need a new restraint system module, and new pretensioners, and hopefully the restraint system module is going to be ok with the fact that the airbags have been deployed already. I wonder, then, how much of this is accounted for in the $2500 quote I was given. I really can't swing anything close to that amount anytime soon but would like to at least be street legal.

Response From Hammer Time

I would be that about $1000 of it was for the bag itself so the rest must be the other items. The moduler cannot be used and has to be programmed.

Ah, I see. That doesn't sound so bad. I guess my concern is, will a new one still work even though the airbags have been deployed? I'd hate to buy a new one and have it immediately fire again.

Response From Hammer Time

The seat belts are tied to the module for "quick take up"
