95' Nissan Altima - 4cyl

I have replaced the fuel filter, the alternator, and checked the spark plug wires, etc...

It has a hard time starting, sometimes, when it does start, if you goto jump on the gas, it will sputter and die...... I can't seem to figure out why...could someone please help me figure this out....

Response From butterman.b

My 1998 altima had similar symptoms and it turned out the timing belt was off by one notch. started and ran fine but no real power.

Response From Discretesignals

You must had a special Altima because the 2.4L in those use a chain.

Check engine light on? Any codes being stored?

Response From nickwarner

Its those ninja engineers. They sneak in when nobody is looking and change everything. You didn't see them because they're very good ninjas. Sneaky fellas.

You need to start a new question of your own.

Yeah, good point

Timing belts don't just simply go out of time and need resetting. It it happened without a tech's contribution, then the belt is junk.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Check fuel pressure,

Question From More1101 on 94' Nissan Altima

1994
Nissan
Altima

I was having a rough idle in my car, it sounded like it wasn't firing properly so I replaced my spark plugs and my spark plug wire set. The issue was still there so I replaced the rotor and distributor cap. The issue was still there. Then my car died while I was driving it. Later I found out that the rotor shot off in the distributor cap and was ruined along with the distributor cap. I replaced both again and there appears to be no damage done to the distributor but the car still won't start. I have fuel and a spark so I thought it might be a timing issue and that maybe the timing chain slipped or was damaged, but after checking the chain looks good as new and is still tight. What else might be my problem?

Response From zmame Top Rated Answer

I belive that the altima is 3.0L V6 if so there is a optical disk in the distributor check the make sure the led under it is not damaged or if the holes in the disk are not plugged.

2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 L - P0420/P0300 - Cold Start Problems

Question From beall208395 on 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 L - P0420/P0300 - Cold Start Problems

Ok, I have a 2005 Nissan Altima that is throwing the codes P0420/P0300.

What happens is when you try to start the car while its cold (or hasn't been running in a while) it doesn't want to start. It takes about 4 to 5 turns of the key to get the baby to fire up. Once its started, it runs great.. and if I turn it off and turn it back on within a few mins of it being on it fires right back up with no misfire.

I'm thinking it's either a spark plug, spark plug wire, or a sensor.

What do you guys think?

Response From beall208395 Top Rated Answer

I think its the Camshaft Position Sensor.. I'm going to replace it and we will see if it fixes it.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

I guess camshaft sensor replacement is as good a way to lose money as anything if you want to.

Perhaps find out what it missing now when it doesn't start. Since it can run well (you said) when warm what's missing when cold? Codes for random misfires and a catalytic converter not happy are probably side effects of the real problem.

Right when expected check fuel pressure up to spec and spark at all present. If highly predictable that it will not start after an amount of time prime it first and if it starts right up and stays running that's good info.

I think this engine is sensing it's already warmed up all the time but codes aren't telling sending you that direction. Maybe clear them and see which ones come back or get a more comprehensive code reading.

Your guess could be right I'm just not convinced it would so dependably fail that way?
