purge valve replacement

Question From dog_4003 on purge valve replacement

i have a 1997 pontiac transport minivan. 164,000 miles, 3.4 v6. the check engine light is on and indicates a bad purge valve. i have looked and looked where is this valve located and if possable if i could get a diagram that would be great. thanks.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Take codes with a direction NOT that the part is bad. It's located on top of the canister for fuel vapors and may just have vacuum lines or a plug that isn't sending a signal for several reasons such as wire corroded or who knows?

There's also a solenoid for the purge valve and not sure if code can differentiate.

Do you have any symptoms at all with this?

Response From dog_4003

there where to codes that kicked at autozone one was small evac leak the other they told me was the purge valve they did say the other code was a purge valve code.

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

You're not listening. That code doesn't mean replace the valve. It means there is a problem in the circuit that may or may not be caused by the valve. It could also be any of the related wiring, a fuse or the PCM itself.
Codes give you specific information about the problem. They do not tell you what part is bad.

Response From Hammer Time

I'm giving you the location of the Purge switch and valve but be advised that there is no code that tells that valve is bad. It merely indicates an issue it observed in the circuit which may or may not be caused by a faulty valve. It requires further diagnosis to confirm the failure cause.

2006 Accord Purge valve solenoid

Question From comnavguy on 2006 Accord Purge valve solenoid

06 Honda Accord with 2.4 DOHC engine with 79,000 miles showed code P0443 - purge valve solenoid or partially clogged purge hose.

Removed and checked canister and all solenoids. OK. Checked hose. No blockage or crimp or collapse. Any suggestions or hints with this model Honda will be very helpful and appreciated.

Is it possible that a small leak in another system hose could cause this MIL code to come up? We have not smoked this system - YET.

Response From Discretesignals

That code is a circuit code for the purge valve. Basically it means there is an electrical problem. Have you tested the purge valve and its circuits while commanding it with your scan tool? Does the code return?

Response From comnavguy Top Rated Answer

We (there are two of us working on this problem) removed the canister and checked the unit (for moisture trapped inside) and to check the solenoids and valves on the canister. We've since learned that the purge valve is under the hood, but we don't know where it's located

Can you or someone tell me where that valve is located? That is our next step.

Response From Hammer Time

It should be easy enough to locate. It has a vapor line coming from the tank and a vacuum line going to the engine with an electrical connector. It usually has a green cap, service port close by in the line.

Response From Hammer Time

That code isn't for a leak. It for an inoperative Purge valve for whatever reason.

purge valve fault code

Question From gblack02 on purge valve fault code

I scanned for a trouble light code and it says "purge valve canister solenoid." I figured it was connected to the evap canister. It isn't. I hate to admit it, but I can't find the valve! Help. 1995 chevy cavalier, 2.2 litre.

Response From DanD Top Rated Answer

You didn’t give us the code so I can’t look up a test procedure but whatever the code is, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a bad solenoid. It does mean that the computer has tried to command the solenoid on and didn’t see the reaction it expected, as in a fuel tank pressure sensor change.
I’m not saying that it’s not the purge solenoid but it could also be restricted or leaking vacuum lines to and or from the solenoid, poor electrical connections, an open in the circuit and the list goes on and on.
So if you happen to throw a solenoid at the car and the light comes back don’t be surprised.
Dan.

pickup ses code

Question From cracker on pickup ses code

I got a 1999 Chev pickup. It is thowing a P0441
code. What do I do to check it out to determine
what I need to do to fix it?

Response From Discretesignals Top Rated Answer

That is a purge during non purge code. First thing you should try is unplugging the canister purge valve electrical connector and the line that goes to the charcoal canister. With the engine running you shouldn't have any vacuum on the purge valve nipple you disconnected the line from. If you do, the valve is faulty.

Note: when you disconnect the electrical connector there will probably be a purge valve circuit code that will trigger.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Evap emissions issue: First check fuel cap is there and correct one but probably a problem up front with a flooded/fuel wet canister not burning up the just the vapors it catches or overwhelmed with fuel?

Look around and smell for fuel odor and anything unhooked or rusted out that would carry fuel vapor - metal lines even if rusty be a problem.

Just maybe it's been overfilled with fuel too much and might clear itself - can't say but if you did or do that a lot it could be a reason,
