1999 Plymouth Breeze 2.0L Transmission Cooler Removal

Question From gogamish on 1999 Plymouth Breeze 2.0L Transmission Cooler Removal

Hi all,

I've diagnosed a severe trans oil leak in the hose that leads to the trans oil cooler in front of the car's radiator. I've removed the old hose and some of the metal tubing that lead to the cooler. In this process, I bent the cooler itself and broke it :( (see pics)
Now of course, I need to replace the whole trans cooler. I mean to replace the sawed-off metal tubing with rubber tubing. Now, I've never removed a transmission oil cooler before and am stuck on how to do it. Will I have to remove the fan assembly and radiator just to get to whatever holds the trans cooler in place?
Pics in the imgur album: http://imgur.com/a/dmd6B

I really don't wanna take this car to the shop again...

Thanks a bunch,

Seb

Response From Hammer Time

That is an aftermarket cooler. They use plastic holders that pass right through the radiator to hold them attached. They are one time use and will have to be cut to remove the cooler. The new cooler should come with some new ones to attach it.

Response From gogamish

Thanks for the info.

This means that the plastic holders pass through the water cooler and then also through the air conditioning radiator? In essence, I would need to remove the fan assembly in order to reach where these holders end up?

Thanks!

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

You'll have to peek behind the condenser to see if they go all the way through. They could have ended them at the back of the condenser. You can also if it's easier.

Response From gogamish

You can also if it's easier.

What do you mean here?

I looked through the condenser fans to see if I could find where the holders come out, but I couldn't see to much as the blades and plastic fan housing is quite large. Maybe the holders only go through the water cooler and not the condenser? I'll have to investigate further.

This morning I went to the store and bought another cooler that comes with a mounting kit. I'll see about it today after work.

Question From stevo6672 on please help, 1998 Plymouth breeze

I'm having a serious problem. I've got a 1998 Plymouth breeze that needed a crankshaft position sensor replaced. Car would run fine than after a little bit of driving the car would stall out. A ran a diagnostic on it and it came up as cam/crankshaft sensors. So I went out and bought both sensors. I've replaced them both and now the car wont start. It cranks but nothing happens. I've checked all the electrical connections and they seem to be fine. Can anyone help me figure this out. What maybe I did wrong? Or what could be wrong.

THANKS!

Response From Sidom

Try putting the old ones back on & see if it starts, if it does, you got a defective new one....

Response From stevo6672

I tried the old camshaft sensor did same thing. But the crankshaft sensor had yo be drilled out.

Response From Hammer Time

That's a problem. The exact position is critical.

Response From stevo6672

I just put in another new one same thing. The car isn't even getting a spark.

Response From Hammer Time

How about an engine size?

What exactly did you drill?

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

There are no V6s in the Plymouth Breeze. He already stated that it was a 2.4.

Response From stevo6672

Yeahp I made sure that everything was out and also cleaned up the hole. The sensor is Sitting in there properly. I ran threw and triple checked all of the connections.

I don't recall what codes where, as I was at autozone and they ran the scan. Three codes popped up. The third stated timing components. It ran fine before I replaced the sensors. Can a faulty sensor cause the engine to not want to create a spark?

I'm not a mechanic so I have no idea lol.

Response From Hammer Time

It sure will. It will also take out injector pulse.

Response From stevo6672

UPDATE.

I ran another test and no error codes came up. Looks like its off to the shop.

Response From stevo6672

So I finally got it started, but is running rough. Any idea's?

Response From stevo6672

Maybe I just got a faulty part. Ill run a test on it again tomorrow. Ill keep y'all updated. Thanks for the helps guys!

Response From happytech

What was the codes that told you the crank and camshaft senors was bad? im taking it that u have a v6 is that correct? if u drilled it out did u look to make sure u got it all out? the position is very sensitive if it to deep or not in all the way it want pick up.

Response From stevo6672

Its 2.4L DOHC. I had to drill a hole into the actual sensor to be able to pull it out. It was so swollen there was no other way.

Response From Hammer Time

OK, I see what type you have now. i was concerned that you drilled the mounting bolts and changed the position of the sensor. You're going to need some test equipment to go any further unless you can physically see a problem. Double check that you didn't bend the connector blades over with the plug.

Question From Guest on Need help tuning up '87 Plymouth Breeze

I was wondering if anyone could help me find an internet guide for tuning up my '97 plymouth breeze? I'm interested most in finding the gap settings for the spark plugs (4cylinder, 2.0L)

I also can't figure out where the fuel filter is located to replace it.

Thanks so Much!!

Question From grizzly99 on 1998 Plymouth breeze

i have a 98 Plymouth breeze and it just started not running in the rain, or if it's damp out, but if it's dry it runs fine. any ideas what it could be?
Thanks

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Is this to say it won't start when damp or raining with a cold engine but runs for the day if dry to start with?

If something on that order, you might try spraying (water bottle mister) when running and cool still the high voltage ign parts and see if you can see arcing or find a spot that will reproduce the issue right in front of you,

Question From gunnlino on plymouth breeze abs light

'97 plymouth breeze w/97,000 mi, right rear wheel cyl failed, brake fluid everywhere, r&r wheel cyl and all new pads & hardware. Now ABS dash light is always on. How do I rectify the problem?
Many thanks.....gunnlino

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

I hope you replaced both wheel cylinders. A sensor could be covered with junk from brake fluid but should wash off with just water.

While light is on you should have regular braking action if all else is normal, T
