So, here is my story.

Year: 2000
Make: Chrysler
Model: Jeep Wrangler Sport
Engine Size: 4.0 Manual 5-speed
Miles: 113,067

I was driving my Jeep home after class one day and I pulled up to a stop sign. I threw it in neutral, stopped, then engaged the clutch. When I engaged the clutch I felt popping and crackling under my foot on the clutch. I drove it home like this. I had the same problems when the car was turned off as well, no differences. I am no car expert, so I brought it to Firestone for them to inspect it. I leave it over-night, go back the next day and they say I need an entirely new transmission due to metal shavings in the transmission fluid. I have a few connections so I decided that I was going to drive it to a Transmission store where they could replace or rebuild my transmission. I got in my car to drive it to the Transmission shop but I could not put my car into gear. It took all of the power I had in order to get it into reverse. I got out of the car and went back into Firestone to ask what was up. They said they had no problems when they drove it earlier that day. I told them to re-inspect it and I left it there over-night yet again. I come back the next day, they said nothing was wrong and to leave the car off and put it in reverse, then start it back up. I said alright, I get back in the car and attempt this. My car starts rattling and shaking horribly. This happened 3 times. I went back in, and they said the same thing they did the day before. "We had no such problem when driving it this morning." I have 0 trust in Firestone/Dobbs because this is NOT the first time they have messed with one of my cars.

Can someone please tell me what the problem is? If there is anything else you need to know, I will gladly give the information. Thank you

Does not sound like a transmission problem causing that. Sounds more like the clutch isn't disengaging or the input shaft isn't slowing down cause it is hung on a faulty pilot bearing when you go to put it into gear. If the input shaft on the transmission doesn't slow down enough for the syncronizer for that gear you are select to engage the dog teeth, you won't be able to get it into gear unless you turn the engine off.

All manual transmissions will have metal fragments in the oil from the gears wearing. As long as huge slivers or pieces of teeth don't come out, your ok.

From the noises your hearing, you'll have to pull the transmission out and inspect the clutch components to see what failed. Maybe the clutch release bearing or pilot bearing is coming apart.
