1990 Oldsmobile
Cutlass cruiser 3.3L
212,000 miles..........yepp

Hi, I'm not much of a mechanic at all but I'll try to describe this problem the best I can. First off, there's a leak. From what I can tell it's above the pan gasket. It's either coming right out of the (cv joint?) or above it...if that's even possible. So I take it that would be an expensive fix. It is an extremely crappy car and I don't care what I have to do to fix the leak just to get me back and forth to college. It's been leaking a drop or so every 2 minutes and slipping for about a year now. I went out and bought some lucas tranny fix and decided to throw it in there because I was told it could fix some leaks. My car had been sitting for about 3 days so almost ALL of the fluid was drained out. I'm talking maybe half a centimeter up the stick. Anyway, I put in 2 quarts of atf and a half bottle of lucas, and the level had risen to about an inch and a half over the full line on the dipstick. That's with running through all the gears, checking the fluid warm, and in park. Even an hour later, after driving the car, it was still that high. It's a 3.3L and imo should take more than 2-3 quarts Is there something wrong there? Are these 2 problems connected in some way? Again, sorry for my mechanical inability Thanks a lot

The dipstick only checks the last quart or a bit more not the whole capacity of the trans. Get the level right or that will be a problem. You might be able to crack open a cooling line to radiator (the trans cooling lines!) to let some out slowly while running or loosen the pan with engine off would be better.

Clean off all trans fluid, wipe dry and look for the source which will be the highest and usually most forward of where the leak makes it wet.

Does it continue to leak when engine is off or are you just noticing what hasn't finished dripping down yet?

This is near impossible to guess at without being there. Hope college isn't too far!
