Question From DjERA on Transmission Tune up

Year of vehicle 1987
Make of vehicle saturn
Model of vehicle sw
Engine size it says 1.6
160k

I am looking to drain the transmission on this saturn but I can't find the plug.

TIA

Response From Sidom Top Rated Answer

None of that info really looks correct. There weren't any Saturns in 87 and most of the early ones were 1.9

The drain plug is on the left side at the bottom. Since those don't have pans the trans filter looks just like an engine oil filter & changes out the same way.

Response From flgmtech1

as the previous replier stated, there is a drain plug next to the axle on the lower corner of the transaxlem and then the filer is a screw on much like a diesel or an oil filter located below the air filter housing

Response From Hammer Time

Either this is not a US car or the info given is wrong as the poster pointed out, there is no 87 Saturn for US.
Actually, we are all assuming this is an automatic and likely a 97, I guess it could be a manual trans.

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

Good catch! Didn't even notice the year.

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

TIA; I don't believe that the transmission pans on this model have drain plugs. You'll need a LARGE drain pan, remove the pan on the trans, replace the filter, and refill. And, expect to get fluid all over you.

Response From Hammer Time

Finding a drain plug in a trans pan is as rare as a left handed screwdriver.

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

Actually, my wife is left handed. She has some really weird tools. But, I LIKE them.

2001 Saturn Oil pressure light flashes

Question From timsdailydose on 2001 Saturn Oil pressure light flashes

2001 Saturn SL2 1.9 liter with 155,000 miles. Engine was rebuilt upper and lower after daughters boyfriend ran engine with no oil which froze the engine. Had the block, head and crankshaft repaired at a reputable engine machine shop. Also put a new water pump, oil pressure switch, and oil pump. Everything is new. I still have a low oil pressure light flashing after engine warms up. Oil level is fine. Replaced oil filter twice. No difference. Any help would be appreciated.

Response From Hammer Time

Sounds like there may have been some errors made in rebuilding, possibly in main bearing fitment.

Response From timsdailydose

The bearings were installed and verified with plastigauge for proper clearance specifications. I hooked up an oil gauge and am reading 37 psi when first started then slowly creeps down. I turned the engine off once it got below 20. BTW I had also verified the pickup screen is clear, no blockages.

Response From Hammer Time

If you're seeing 20PSI at idle, that is not too low. It can go as low as 8 to 10 PSI and be safe.

Response From timsdailydose

If i let it continue to run it will drop to 7psi, however , when i accelerate and then decelerate at this level the engine wants to stall out.

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

You might try some different oil but it's looking like there was some errors made in measurements.

Response From timsdailydose

Guess I will be pulling the engine again. I tried two different oils and oil filters. Used 10w30 full synthetic and fram oil filter the first time and 5w30 full synthetic with Purolator "Pure One" the 2nd time with no difference.

BG MOA OIL SUPPLEMENT OR ADDITIVE that you mix in at the time
of changing oil and filter and the oil filter im using is a fram xg

2001 Saturn V6 L Series - 2 Oil Lines?

Showing 2 out of 2 Posts
Question From tolinrome on 2001 Saturn V6 L Series - 2 Oil Lines?

I bought a used 2001 Saturn L Series V6 and got scammed, but long story short this is the problem:
There was transmission fluid ending up in the coolant container and after a couple of shady mechanics I found an honest one and he said the problem was the radiator, that it was leaking transmission oil into the coolant system and thats how the transmission oil ended up in the coolant container. So he changed the radiator and that problem was solved.
But, the shady mechanic that looked at the car before the honest one actually didnt know what he was doing and cut these two metal pipes that were coming out of the oil filter (like a cylinder shaped metal object) and put a transmission rubber hose around the two pipes so the oil was just looping back into its self, it never reached the other end of the engine. I didn know this and every time I drove a few miles oil would just gush out of the car (the rubber host couldnt handle the pressure and would burst) until the honest mecahnic showed me what he did.
So, instead of finding two new metal pipes and doing all the work to get them into the engine, I told him to just unscrew th etwo metal pipes from where the oil filter is and plug them, he did that but now the engine oil light is on anf the engine is making ticking sound.
So what is the purpose of these two metal pipes that carry oil out of the oil filter? Why is it causing this problem? I wouldnt even know what to call them to look for them. I would like to replace them to finally get the car working but even if I had them it would take a lot of work to get them in since they go under the engine somewhere.
Can someone please help? Thanks.

Response From speed Top Rated Answer

are you refering to the inlet and otlet lines on the transmission fluid cooling lines?(around where the radiator is)
