P0335 code for 2006 Mitsubishi Outlander

Showing 9 out of 9 Posts
Question From nkschaibly on P0335 code for 2006 Mitsubishi Outlander

I have a 2006 Mitsubishi Outlander that I've had troubled starting the last few days. Took it to O'Reilly's for a diagnostic check. It came back with a P0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction. The car will turn over after numerous attempts to start it. Do the senors go out at once or can they go out gradually? In the middle of this, the "Service Engine Soon" light has also come on.

Another problem, seems my cooling fan doesn't go on and my engine runs hot at stoplights. Can any of these be related? Or could it be the thermostat? I'm not losing coolant.

Thanks for your help!

Response From Hammer Time

The Crank sensor issue appears to be intermittent so it may be difficult to accurately troubleshoot. I would probably try a new sensor first since you don't have the ability to scope the circuit.

The fan issue may or may not be an actual problem. They are programmed to run hotter at idle intentionally.

Response From nkschaibly

Thanks for the circuit info...I'll try to replace it first and go from there.

As far as the fan---I meant to say it sounds like the fan DOES go on, but it runs really hot as to the red bar on the right.

Response From Hammer Time

Does it come down when the fan comes on?

Response From nkschaibly

No, it doesn't. Only way to bring it down is to put it in neutral and step on the gas.

Response From nkschaibly

Sorry..one more question--is the sensor had to replace in the Outlander? If it's not, any suggestions where I can get some instructions?

Response From Hammer Time

Maybe you want to read your question. I have no idea what you are asking.

I'd say the first thing you want to do is pressure test the cooling system to make sure it doesn't have any leaks and it's full of coolant.

Response From nkschaibly Top Rated Answer

Sorry--been a long day. My question is: Is it difficult to change the sensor on a 2006 Outlander? I see the part is around $75-$95. Is this a 30 minute job or 3 hour job to change it out as I don't want to overpay a mechanic. Or is it something an average person that does minor car repair could handle.

As far as the radiator - I'm not losing coolant--I've checked that daily to make sure.

Response From Hammer Time

NOOOOOO, I don't think you want to attempt that. The flat rate time is 5.2 hours.
It looks like it requires removing the timing belt.

Low beams not working on 2006 mitsubishi outlander

Question From cultus657 on Low beams not working on 2006 mitsubishi outlander

Low beam headlights just stopped working. High beams work just fine. Fuses for left and right low beam circuits tested fine but there is no power at these 2 circuits in the fuse panel. The DRL's are also not working. The owners manual doesn't identify any of the relays and all of the dash and marker lights work as well. Does anyone know where I can find a free schematic for this circuit or if there are any service bulletins on this problem. Warranty ran out 3 months ago. Thanks

Response From mikeb

Initial problem was 1 low-beam headlight burnt out on 2006 Mitsu Outlander (no issues previously)- daughter's boyfriend replace and it worked for a day -- the car and daughter are 2000 miles away in New Jersey - dealer says headlight sockets bad and wants 200.00 - am extremely suspicious - looked at your diagram - are you saying/showing the ECU in small diagram as potential problem and replacing it? Sincerely appreciate help - Mike B

2005 Mitsubishi Outlander 2WD 2.4L 164000 miles cooling fans do not turn off

Question From Zandermart on 2005 Mitsubishi Outlander 2WD 2.4L 164000 miles cooling fans do not turn off

Both cooling fans come on when engine is turned on and remain on until engine is turned off. The A/C compressor kicks in when fan is turned on and the green light on the A/C button will not turn of when depressed. I'm wondering how much this effects gas mileage.

Response From Discretesignals

Trying to figure out if there is something wrong here. Is the blower switch turned off when the engine cooling fans are running all the time and the ac compressor is kicking on?

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

it will effect it a small amount but that is the way it is designed to run. the compressor removes moisture from the air in the cabin.
