Location of OBD1 connector 1995 Mitsubishi Diamante Stationwagon

Question From GeeJay on Location of OBD1 connector 1995 Mitsubishi Diamante Stationwagon

We just purchased an autoxray 2000 from JCWhitney which is suppose to be for a 1995 Mitsubishi Diamante Stationwagon. We cannot find the connector on the car and we cannot configure the reader. Our vehicle is certified OBD1 as stated under the hood. What is the deal on this? Our engine light came on yesterday. We suspect the oxygen sensor but would really like to know if this reader is going to work on our vehicle. Thanks for any help.

2001 mitsubishi Diamante - starting / timing issue

Question From croatia84 on 2001 mitsubishi Diamante - starting / timing issue

Hello everyone, kinda new here so just want to let you guys know in advance that any help will be really appreciated and if there is anything i can help anyone else with i will do what i can.

I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Diamante, the thing just wont start. I think that the timing may have skipped since i do have good spark, fuel is getting to the engine but there is no compression at all, i measured it and the gauge did not move at all ( the gauge was also tested on another vehicle to make sure it is working).

I did take the timing cover off and the belt is still in tact, looks old but on there, one thing that i did notice is that one of the serpentine belts is missing, not sure if that would have anything to do with the problem.

So i guess my questions are:

Could a timing belt that skipped cause no start and no compression problem?

Is there anything else i should check before i try to put a new belt on there?

Any advice will be very appreciated !

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Trouble likely: Only Mitsu engine listed that is NOT an interference engine is the engine 2.4L SOHC. If it jumped just a couple teeth there's a chance otherwise it's engine damage that can be bent valves or more,

T

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

My information says that all Mitz engine except the 3.0 SOHC 12valve is an interference engine. The 3.5 in this car definitely is interference.

Since you mentioned the serp belt being off, I would double check the crank sensor to see if it was damaged by the belt coming off.

Response From croatia84

That sounds like it may have happened, you kinda got my hopes up now. Will let you know after i check it.

Thanks,

Eddie

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Don't even crank it anymore as you might be OK in that it didn't just break. Not sure how many teeth would give no compression before damage. I don't know why this regular accessory belt gave out at the same time unless in was one for A/C only and you didn't notice till now and that's a different issue. Before you go too nuts find out while that one is off if the pulleys turn or if one threw a fit.

If there's a goblin that cause both at once I can't think of it but possible.

Hammer - I got that info from Lamb's Auto site and if incorrect I'm ticked. Just checked again and it wasn't an eyesight problem on my part - that's what it said.

Site did NOT list change miles for this or any Mitsubishi so perhaps I need a better site for that info.

As said - there's a chance if timing belt is still on that no damage has happened mechanically to the engine. About the only ways I can think of to know is either a scope where you can look thru a spark plug hole or take the head(s) off,

T

Response From croatia84

The belt that gave out is actually power steering. All pulleys seem fine, whenever i did crank it i did notice movement through the oil cap which of course doesn't have to mean that everything is fine but oh well. At this point i think i will go ahead and get a new belt on there, get it timed right and cross my fingers, whatever happens.

Thank you guys so much, this is a great place to get some help. I will let you know how it turns out.

Eddie from St.Louis, MO.

Response From Hammer Time

Don't try to change the timing using the old belt. If it jumped time, even by one tooth, then the belt is junk. If you go deep enough to move the belt, then by all means, replace it.

Response From croatia84

I already got a new one it was only $27. It would be kinda crazy to reuse an old timing belt regardless of the price, so i agree with you.

Response From Hammer Time

Here is what Alldata has

Response From croatia84

Unfortunately the sensor is good, dear god all the stuff i had to go through to get to that thing. So i guess only thing left is to get someone to check the timing. Unless there is an easy way for me to check it my self.

92 mitsubishi diamante 3.0 smokes

Question From cheyene on 92 mitsubishi diamante 3.0 smokes

this is my secomd diamante and this is the second one to smoke it is not lacking power and smoke after it reaches running tempature at stop lights smoke appears to be gray any suggestions would be appreciated!

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

That 3.0 engine has a pretty common problem with worn valve guides and valve seals. If the guides are worn out, that pretty major surgery to repair that but you can replace the valve seals a little easier. Even that is a good size job to replace the seals but it will help, at least for a while on most vehicles. It's almost 6 hours labor to do both banks so your looking at a little over $500 plus parts.

1994 mitsubishi diamante ls smoke troubles

Question From jojox360 on 1994 mitsubishi diamante ls smoke troubles

Hello all,

I have a 1994 mitsubishi diamante ls 3.0 liter v6 with 180,000 miles and I really love this car. It has been smoking for a couple of months now and I have not really been minding it until it gotton worse. I actually got pulled over by police because of the amount of smoke. I have been investigating into the concern and I cannot understand why it is smoking. I heard all that about if it is white smoke = antifreeze= head gasket, blue smoke=oil leak=valve seals or compression rings rings, and black smoke = rich burning. But it seems that when ever I try to pinpoint exactly why it is smoking, a symtom does not add up. Smoke color is not blueish but actually grayish. I also do not seem to be burning any oil at all.Upon first starting in morning, I get no smoke at all.Smoke does not happen until i am idling at operating temperature. Also, smoke does not happen when I step on the gas but rather only when I am not giving it gas.(Sitting at red light I get smoke but when i take off from red light smoke starts to fade away.) Smoke does not smell sweet.Already changed head gaskets. Level of antifreeze has not moved. Before i make a time consumeing repair, i need to know the reason why it smokes. Please help me out,

Jojo

Response From cheyene Top Rated Answer

i have a 92 diamante that smokes same symptoms as yours have you figured anything out? if so plese let me know at cheyennekeith@msn.com thank you!

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

jojo; Are you missing any transmission fluid? Not sure if this vehicle uses a vacuum modulator; Could be burning trans. fluid, which could account for the odd colored smoke? Does the smoke have any smell to it? Grey is an odd color, though. And, if it's enough to get pulled over, something has to be going on. Valve guide seals leaking will generally present themselves on deceleration and on initial start up. Rings, generally, will be present most of the time, idle, accel, ect. Head gasket would be all of the time once at temperature. Doesn't leave much to guess?
