2006 CHRYSLER SEBRING TOURING DECK,DOOR LOCKS, MIRRORS INTERIOR LIGHT DOES NOT WORK

Question From ROBBYMACAM on 2006 CHRYSLER SEBRING TOURING DECK,DOOR LOCKS, MIRRORS INTERIOR LIGHT DOES NOT WORK

I HAVE A 2006 CHRYSLER SEBRING TOURING.
I INSTALLED A DECK INTO MY CAR, AND THE TWO YELLOW WIRES THAT ARE CONNECTED WITH EACHOTHER ON THE HARNESS HAD A LOOSE RUBBER COVER SO COPPER/METAL TOUCHED THE METAL INSIDE THE CAR WHICH CAUSED A SPARK. NOW MY POWERDOOR LOCK DOESNT WORK, MY INTERIOR LIGHT DOESNT WORK, MY MIRRORS DOESNT WORK. I CHANGED THE FUSES AND IT DIDNT SEEM TO DO ANYTHING. I ALSO CONNECTED MY STOCK DECK AND AGAIN IT ALSO DIDNT TURN ON. THE CAR WORKS FINE OTHER THAN THOSE PROBLEMS. HOWEVER IM NOT SURE WHAT GOING ON. I DONT KNOW IF ITS THE FUSES OR SOMETHING ELSE. HELP ME!

Response From Sidom Top Rated Answer

Did you check both blocks? There is a power distribution block under the hood & then there is a fuse block on the left end of the dash with plastice cover over it inside (the driver's door has to be open to access it). Get a test light & with the key on check both sides of all the fuses in both blocks.......

Question From CGUTIERREZ on 2001 Chrylser LHS

2001
CHRYSLER
LHS

I had my windshield replaced. Everything worked well before the windshield was replaced. After the windshield was installed, my radio doesn't turn on. My additional clock isn't working, I have to reset the a.c. everytime I get in, the interior lights don't work, the bell doesn't ring when I open the door, my power locks don't work, and my trunk button doesn't open the trunk.

Response From Discretesignals

The body control module (BCM) is down for some reason. The BCM controls all those thing you listed that aren't working. To verify the BCM is down, you need a high end scan tool to see if you can interface it or not. If you can't interface the BCM, then power and grounds have to be checked at the BCM connectors.

Can't figure out why changing the windshield would cause the BCM to go out. Maybe just a coincidence? Unless it has something to do with the rear view mirror harness...maybe pinched or grounded a hot wire and blew a fuse out???

Response From CGUTIERREZ

Thank you so much for your reply. One more question. Where is the body control module (bcm) located? Is the 10 amp fuse #14 in the junction block in the normal fuse box area on the side of the dash board (on the inside of the door)? I think you are correct it may just be a coincidence. The windshield repair guy check the wiring on the side of the inside panel by the windshield and it was ok. They had to remove some glue from that wiring but the wires were not damaged.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

As DS suggested check the fuse first and wait for any other problem if it's good. Use a real test light and if unsure where #14 is check them all with the light. ~$5.00 bucks for an LED test light from Wally world as good as any IMO.

Basic look is like this pic which will expire.....

When items should be working the fuse will light the handle. If one is bad it will only light on one side so that one needs replacing and if it blow right away then there's more to look into. Good luck,

Response From CGUTIERREZ

I purchased a fuse tester and tested #14 and the lights lit up just fine. I could not open the picture that was provided. What do I need to do next? Is the BCM something I can change myself. Is this a dealer part?

Response From Tom Greenleaf

I tried a few times to get that pic to show and failed so gave up - sorry,

Response From Discretesignals

Where is the body control module (bcm) located? Is the 10 amp fuse #14 in the junction block in the normal fuse box area on the side of the dash board (on the inside of the door)?

Yep junction block is located on the driver's side of the dash. The BCM is connected to the junction block.

Response From Double J Top Rated Answer

My 2 cents

One dealer i was at ,the used car dept would have one of the Cheapo windshield installers
come out and put in windshields, usually used ones...
This guy was a Hack.....
They normally take a piece of wire attacted at each end to an old seat belt and pull it back
and forth thru the windshield seal area all the way around to free the glass..at least thats how he
always did it.... He always or at least 90 % of the time cut thru and/or skinned the
insulation of the wiring harness along the top edge of the headliner to the mirrors and/or vanity lighting.
Of course the fuse(s) blew...so have them check or you check the wiring up at the top of the windshield

Response From Discretesignals

Check the 10 amp fuse #14 in the junction block. It is probably blown. That powers the day/night rear view mirror and the BCM. Inspect the rear view mirror harness and make sure it isn't damaged.

old Aftermarket Compass/autodimming not working correctly

Question From edwianni1 on old Aftermarket Compass/autodimming not working correctly

I picked up a older GNTX-120 auto dimming, compass Rear View Mirror at a junk yard and I am trying to install it but I am having problems. It has 3 positions on it, Off, Map, Compass/Map. I assume the map lights are external because I don;t see anything light up (that's OK). When I apply 12 volts across pins 1(pos) and 2 (ground) in the Compass/ Map position the compass will work but not the auto dimming feature. If I apply 12 volts across Pin 2 (ground) and pin 4 (pos) the auto dimming works only, regardless of swich position. If I apply 12 volts pin 1 (pos), pin 2 (ground) and pin 4 (pos) the auto dimming will work but not the compass regardless of switch positions. Does anyone know why the Compass and Auto Dimming won't work together in any position? Thanks, Ed

1996 Sebring Conv leaks antifreeze

Question From gemmons1 on 1996 Sebring Conv leaks antifreeze

I have a 1996 Chrysler Sebrig Convertible JXI. It has the 2.5 6cyl and 170,000 miles and has been leaking antifreeze for several months. I put about a quart in every couple of days. It never overheated, but I would lose heat in the car. There was always pressure in the coolant system if I tried to open the cap when it was hot. I babied it along until warmer weather. I replaced the t-stat. I was told by a garage that it was probably the head gasket. I replaced them on a 1993 Town & country so I thought I'd do this one. I have it torn down and have removed the intake manifold. The heads are still on. There is antifreeze all along the block where the intake manifold was but NO indication of a break in either head gasket to explain this. Also there are puddles of antifreeze on top of the transmission, below the distributor. Any suggestions. I don't want to remove the heads if they're not the problem. Thanks, Greg

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Hold off on the head gasket since you see evidence on trans - you said.

I think there's a pipe/hose that traverses the engine from one end (side) to the other that could be the issue. Pressure test it - get the dental mirrors out and find out where. I'll bet it's just a simple leak which still could be a pain but not the head gaskets quite yet,

There is a hose that runs along the same path that goes to the overflow canister. It "appears" to be ok. There are no cracks or visible holes. I'll get a new one anyway. I'm going to get an inspection mirror to look under the water pump before taking it off. I'll let you know what I find. There is a thin black plastic tube that runs from the intake to the egr valve that appears to be broken. Would that cause it to not hold idle at times? Can I replace it with rubber hose or should I get the part from the dealer? Thanks, Greg

Response From Tom Greenleaf

I haven't seen this with my own eyes on one yet but reports are there's a pipe or hose under(?) intake manifold that can cause leaks that is tricky to see. I plain dunno if plain hose can be used or if it's part plastic or something you could properly create out of hardware?? Yes - a leak could be intermittent and might leak at only a certain pressure too and quit with more or less. Ever have a tire do that? I have!

If you can see what you think it is go price it out at a dealer and see it (I don't know where to find a pic of the part) on their screen or perhaps ask to look at it and decide from there.

Good luck with it however it gets fixed. I doubt a plastic patch of any kind would work well but not sure as I'm not looking at it,

T

Response From gemmons1

Thanks for the heads up on the crossover pipe. I went to the junk yard and got another one. I put new o-rings on it and that seems to fix the problem.
Another problem I was having is an intermittent idling problem. When I try to start the car sometimes it won't hold idle. Once I get going it's fine, most of the time. Sometimes it will stall when I come to a stop, but not often. When I do park it will be fine, but if I turn it off and try to restart the car it won't hold idle. Any suggestions?

Response From gemmons1

I have to ammend my last post. It did not fix the problem. It just took a few days to build back up to where it was before. I am still losing antifreeze on the top of the block. It is puddling up under the intake manifold and then overflowing down onto the transmission.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

"Used Part" Is the problem identical now as it was?

Any way you can pressure check this and actually see the exact source of this leak? Perhaps the used part has the same issue - used is used

T

Response From gemmons1

It has the same exact problem. The original tube I took off looked fine but since there was no indication of leakage on the engine I pulled the used one from I replaced it anyway. I did buy new o-rings since the old ones were hard. What else could cause antifreeze to pool on top of the block?

Response From Tom Greenleaf

It has a leak so it can be found:

Get a pressure tester, dental mirrors or whatever it takes with areas cleaned off first you should be able to see it start to leak again - somewhere. By nature the leak will be the highest and evidence will trail towards rear from when it was in motion. AKA - highest/furthest forward. You'll find it as elusive as it might be. Stinks but there's no law that says the same thing can't happen right away

creaking sound turning at slow speeds

Question From kclauer1 on creaking sound turning at slow speeds

Hi I have a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3L with about 85000 kms.
It makes a creaking noise sometimes in low speed turns. It does it more often turning in one direction and sounds different when reversing in another direction etc. It also sometimes doesn't make the sound at all depending on the temperature or atmospheric pressure or something mysterious. The mechanic said he heard a sound and gave it a power steering flush but not sure it was the same noise although it did stop for a bit after that as in for 3 days. When I purchased the vehicle they said it was draggind when the vehicle was lifted in the air and turning the wheel side to side and they said it was probably the strut bearing. I don't want to replace the struts for fun if they don't need it. any ideas?

Response From Double J Top Rated Answer

Have your mechanic reference Chrysler Technical Service Bulletin 13-001-07 to see if this is what is going on......

Here is an excerpt from it.
He will need to access the TSB for the full details.

SUBJECT:

Squeak / Creak or Tick Sound During Vehicle Operation

OVERVIEW:

This bulletin involves inspecting a tapping plate cage in the left front frame rail and makingmodifications as required.

MODELS:

2007(RG)

Chrysler Voyager (International Markets)

2007

(RS)

Caravan/Town & Country

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Some customers may experience a Squeak, Creak, or a Tick sound while driving theirvehicle. The sound may be noticed coming from the drivers side and may be interpreted asa suspension sound since it is typically heard while driving.

DIAGNOSIS:

Sit in the vehicle with engine running, gear shift in park and foot off the brake. Rotate thesteering wheel from a full right to full left turn to load the engine cradle. While rotating thesteering wheel to the right and left, listen for the sound. If a sound is heard while loadingthe engine cradle, shut the engine off, get out of the vehicle, and reach over the left tireand insert one finger into the frame opening that contains the tapping plate assembly(directly inside rectangular opening) (

Fig. 1). Feel for interference between the rear tab ofthe cage and the vertical box section of the rail (

Fig. 2

). An inspection mirror may be usedto visually confirm the interference. If interference is noted or the rear tab is tight to the boxsection, perform the Repair Procedure.

NOTE: With the vehicle sitting still, the sound may be more of a Pop as compared tosqueak, tick or click.
