1991 mazda b2200 automatic engine swap

Question From pickupgal on 1991 mazda b2200 automatic engine swap

I have the original carb mazda motor in my 91 b2200. Is there any other motor I can swap it with?

Response From pickupgal

My motor is done and i cant find another mazda with a good motor. Thats why im trying to find out what othe motors i can use with out alot of customizing. Appreciate any suggestions!

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Have you consulted a reputable salvage yard for a tested exact duplicate? It should come with everything, compression test results and miles known with a warranty. If your truck is in good overall shape otherwise it would save a lot of grief. At the age you might find a whole truck with body damage or getting too rusty but has a good engine.

Have your VIN # handy if you call one as there could be mid year differences that matter or who knows? Many used parts (salvage yards) have inventoried their stock and in touch with others inventory,

Response From pickupgal

Yea i,ve been checkin scrap yards pretty regular and craigslist. But no i havent had the compression test ran. The bodys n good shape, a lil rust on dr cab corner but ive just grown partial too it. But it may be time for a new one. Ill check on the test, butdont want to put to much more time or money into.....Thanks

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

What do you think it's worth with a good engine? From a rust belt area (road salt) and telling you that if you see a hole from rust now it could be hidden all over but will show its ugly face and is a vehicle killer vs what they are worth.

Sounds like you love this thing and bet you could find a better one - perhaps newer or not that doesn't need much of anything and no rust from some areas.

An engine will cost some big bucks no matter how you slice it. You said "new" and if new is in your budget you might save by doing that now but you have to decide that............

Response From re-tired

swaps are never easy or cheap. You always have tech problems that can cost hundreds to clear up or even stop the project dead . motor mounts, exhaust ,tranny ,clutch or converter, wiring ,linkages ,etc. anyone thing or combo can and will go wrong. If you want to save the truck ,check with a eng rebuider /machine shop. If you do the R&R it could be reasonable.

Response From Discretesignals

You can swap it with anything that will fit in the engine bay if you have the money and time.

Just curious, but why are you wanting to do a motor swap?

Question From rgiddens on 1989 Mazda B2200 blows white smoke -does not skip

1989 Mazda Truck B2200 blows white smoke out exhaust pipe- does not skip- blows water out radiator when cap is off. No water in oil. What could this be?

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

Blown head gasket or cracked head for sure. Used engine is the best bet to resolve it.

1990 Mazda B2200 Engine Stall at idle

Showing 2 out of 2 Posts
Question From sleepyunguent on 1990 Mazda B2200 Engine Stall at idle

I have a 1990 manual transmission fuel injected Mazda B2200 with about 202k miles on it. At first it seems to just stall at idle. It can either be a cold start or stopping at a light after driving it for a while. I can start it right back up but it will only run for a few seconds and then it will stall again right away unless I keep on pressing and releasing the accelerator peddle quickly. It doesn't seems to help if I simply hold down the accelerator peddle. I tried to get it in gear and it ran rough and I had to keep playing with the accelerator to get the car going. Once it got up to speed it seemed to run somewhat ok and I was able to limp back home that way.

When I got home I did searches online and removed the idle speed control unit along with the throttle body. BAC valve and the solenoid valve (ISC) both tested ok according to the service manual (BAC air valve was testing by soaking in near boiling water to verify valve does close; solenoid valve was tested via ohmmeter). I went ahead and cleaned both the idle control unit and the throttle body and reassembled everything back. The car ran great for a few days and then the problem reappeared. At first just rarely but now seems to be most of the time.

I've bypassed the fuel filter on high pressure side to no effect. The fuel pump is pumping out fuel but I don't have a fuel pressure meter to verify the pressure yet. Spark plugs and plug wires are only a few months old. I didn't notice any condensation issue in distributor cap.

Can someone please give me some tips and the rational behind it so I can try to fix this myself without just randomly replacing parts. I can't really afford to take it to a mechanic now because they just replaced the ECU on it a few months ago so they already have all my spare money x.X

Response From RonArt Top Rated Answer

If you have solved your problem with your Mazda B2200 please let me know how.

I have what appears to be the exact same symptoms.

My mechanic says the problem is the MAF unit (Mass Air Flow Sensor).

This is one of the most expensive parts to replace (from $211 remanufactured to $480 new). And even the Mazda dealers says the only way this can be re-tested (i.e. second opinion) is for them to run a full diagnostic, with it installed, for $99. It cost me $85 already for it to be diagnosed.

Anyway... if you have any additional info on this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

Regards,

Ron

mazda anti lock brakes

Question From tomphilpott on mazda anti lock brakes

i have a 93 mazda b2200 and the anti lock brake light comes on when i start it, what could this be? thanks
-tom

Response From dave284 Top Rated Answer

It could be one of the sensors on the steering knuckles or the anti-lock brake control module....a diagnostic scan would be the best and most accurate to pin point the problem.

Question From carman on cataiytic converter-removed-engine runs -rich

i removed the converter at the exhaust manifold now engine runs rich fuel condition i adjusted fuel level did not help engine runs poor --black spark plugs-high fuel consumption--this is the 3rd time i have used carjunky for this problem--i can find your diagnoses--1991-mazda-b2200--200000mi new rebuilt engine TKS-AGAIN

Response From Guest

Make sure your engine isn't running to cold. you may warp the head

Response From HYdrogen_on_Demand

If you also removed the O2 sensor with the cat...well then your ECU isn't getting any signal and is dumping gas wholesale into your carb !!
If you don't want the cat but still want to lean out the gas and save in fuel and polution reduction go to
link removed by mod. not relevent to question
for more info on how to do that. There you will find out how to reduce your emmissions, clean up those soft carbon deposits, and save dramatically on your gas bill too.

Good Luck

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Is this to suggest it wasn't running rich till converter was removed? Why did you remove it anyway and what's in its place?

T

Response From dmac0923

i find this a little odd.. because basically what a converter does is heat up and burn off any excess unburnt fuel in the exhaust. and the 02 sensor at the rear of the converter reads the oxygen levels in the exhaust and tells the computer wether the car is running to rich or too lean.

now if the converter was removed i would think the 02 sensor would be detecting an extremely rich exhaust flow and tell the computer to lean out the air/fuel mixture thus giving you a constant lean condition.

inorder to help that situation they sell anti-foulers (pretty much a just a Spacer) for the 02 sensor. What they do is remove the tip of the sensor up out of the direct exhaust flow and up into the spacer thus in basic terms giving the sensor a false reading.

Response From way2old Top Rated Answer

Being a 1991 Mazda pickup, I think there was only one O2 sensor.
