Question From danfield on 2002 mazda 626 tranmisson

how do you change the automatic tranmission fluid on a 2002 mazda 626 with 4 cyl.

Response From Hammer Time

Drive it to the nearest reputable shop and pay them to hook it up to their fluid exchange machine.

Response From danfield

i want to change the filter too

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

The filter is just a screen and if it has gotten to the point where that is restricted in any way, it's already too late for that transmission.

Shifting Problems with 1995 Mazda 626

Question From jstevens30 on Shifting Problems with 1995 Mazda 626

1995 - Mazda 626 Automatic 4 cylinder - 108,000 miles - Problem with shifting into reverse, drive, etc. . . Do we need to replace whole shifter cable or is there a cheaper fix?

Response From Hammer Time

I'm afraid your going to have to describe the problem a little clearer if you expect to get a diagnosis sight unseen.

Response From jstevens30

My son starts engine and has to wait a few sometimes before his automatic gear shifter engages and allows him to select reverse or drive on the gear shift.

Response From jstevens30

The car is stuck in park and he has to just wait a few minutes before he can move to reverse or drive.

Response From Hammer Time

If I understand you correctly, he can't get the shifter out of park.

That would be called the shift interlock feature. It operates on the same circuit as the brake lights so the first thing you want to do is to make sure the brake lights are working when this problem is present. If the brake lights are working, that proves the circuit is good up to that point, then you'll have to get to the solenoid in the console. Disassemble as much as you have to to access the solenoid near the shifting mechanism. Us a 12v test light to test for power coming and going at the solenoid when the brake is applied. If power is arriving and switching and the solenoid is not triggering, the solenoid is bad and will have to be replaced.

Response From jstevens30 Top Rated Answer

It wouln't be a bad shifter cable then? And about how much would it be to fix the solenoid? Thank You!

Response From Hammer Time

I don't have any prices on the actuator and the labor appears minimal but here is a TSB I found on that problem for that car.

Question From joe 2001 on 2001 mazda 626

2001 mazda 626 1.8 engine going down highway in cruise control and transmission quit working. does any one have a idea what cause this?

Response From Discretesignals

How did the transmission quit working? Could you add some detail?

Response From joe 2001

I was going down the highway and it just quit working. It did not make any noise, now it won't try to move or engage in any gear.

Response From Discretesignals

Can you push the vehicle with the transmission in park?

Response From joe 2001 Top Rated Answer

no it engage in park. put into any gear no response from tramission.

Response From Discretesignals

How is the ATF fluid level and condition? How is the shift linkage?

If they are good, your going to have to do a line pressure test. If it is low, you have some sort of pump issue or something related to it, which means more than likely the transmission is going to have to come apart for inspection. If the pressure is good, transmission has to come apart for inspection. Electrical problem won't cause no forward or reverse gears.

Question From loneeagle721 on '95 Mazda 626 torque converter control solenoid

I am trying to locate the TCC solenoid on a '95 Mazda 626 2.0 auto trans. Can someone please tell me where this is located, being the parts store has to order a manual and I can't wait for it to come in. Thank you.

Response From Hammer Time

The TCC solenoid is internal to the transmission and it not a DIY repair.

Response From loneeagle721

Everything is a DIY fix, if you have the right tools and information. I have been my own mechanic on my cars, trucks, tractors, lawnmowers, etc, for 23 years, so, don't tell me I can't do it. All I asked was where it was located, i.e left side, right side, near the battery, by the neutral safety switch, top, bottom, etc., etc., and not for your assumption that I'm an idiot and had no clue.
