2000 silverado engine missfires untill warm

Question From jassonwayne on 2000 silverado engine missfires untill warm

I have a 2000 chevrolet silverado 4.3 v6 and it missfires untill it warms up,i have replaced the battery, tps, mass air flow sensor, and the plugs, wires, distributer cap, rotor button, and the fuel pump has less than 10,000 miles on them.Any idea.

Response From dave284 Top Rated Answer

Is the check engine light coming on?, And how long has it been since last tune-up? Most of the time a mis is cause by bad plugs/wires/coil pack, also a bad valve but a basic tune-up would render the problem

Response From Double J

I believe your problem may be fuel injector related...
They have a problem with sticking closed or open after sitting overnight due to deposits that build up on the injector poppet valve ball or seat...
Also on some models the fuel tank fill pipe assy has compounds that the fuel extracts and deposits on the injectors as well...
Gm does have a good cleaning process for the injectors and there is a revised fuel tank fill pipe assy also ...again depending on your model....based on the VIN break point, for the fill pipe procedure..
In any case ,your injectors are probably the culprit...
But check into it with Gm...because if related to the fill pipe as well...then the problem will keep reoccuring if not replaced..

Jeez...I hope that made sense...it did to me but I'm old...

Let me know...

Jim

Response From jassonwayne

It will idle fine and you can put it in neutral and rev it up fine.

Response From dave284

http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/04/ce/c6/0900823d8004cec6/repairInfoPages.htm this gives a little info, I would start with a simple tune-up before doing anything else, thats if it haven't had one in the last 2years but a misfire code usually is a coil/wires or plugs pretty much of the time.

Response From dave284

BTW, if the tune-up don't get it, don't be in haste to overlook Jim's anwser, this guy has an average of 99.99% of hitting the problem on the nose

Response From Double J

Damn...

Did I drop down to that low????

Response From jassonwayne

Yes, the check engine light is on. I had it read and there were no codes given, just said mostly misfire cylinder 4 but some cylinder 3.

Impala dies when going under 10mph

Question From RubenWolff on Impala dies when going under 10mph

2000
Chevrolet
Impala
Engine size 3.8
Mileage : 137000 miles

I was changing my oil with a friend and he had a connector for his computer to the car to see what the engine light was for. There was a problem with the MAF so we decided to try and clean it. Getting to the sensor was a lot harder than we thought we we just cleaned a very dirty grid filtering the air that was going into the engine. After doing this the error code was still there but some more problems arose.

When sitting in park the car sounds as if its about to die and then reves the engine to stay alive. This cycle just keeps repeating and alternates between ~700 rpms and ~1400 rpms.
If i'm standing with the brake applied in R or D the car starts shaking and dies pretty often. But if i'm in P or N it still does the strange rpm alternation but stays running and does not shake the car.

Also sometimes when I take my foot off of the accelerator at 30mph or so the car will start accelerating by itself.

Thanks for any help !!

Response From t.mcglaughlin317

i kinda had a problem with achevy lumina that was like that.....the engine would rev in park at 3000 rpms and it peaked at 3000 rpms so it sounded like i was httin the gas over and over and over but wasnt....so we took this little black piece that has no label on that was hooked on the air intake im guessing, then the rev went to 700 rpms in park...however if i were to be driving and i stop it would die because it reved sooo low, it would even die when changing from reverse to drive...but i got rid of that piece of crap :)))

Response From Sidom Top Rated Answer

but i got rid of that piece of crap :)))

The black thing or the the Lumina??????

That litte black thing was/is a Mass air flow sensor................

Response From Sidom

If the throttle body is coked up, then it would be a good idea to clean as suggested....

Exactly what code are you getting? What did you use to clean the MAF with? If you unplug the MAF & run the engine does it make a difference?

Response From chickenhouse

Could possibly be an iac. Toothbrush (old & used) & a can of throttle body & injector cleaner. Engine off, intake snorkle off, spray into the throttle body and brush inside to clean up 130k miles of carbon deposits. A little hole by the iac needs attention also. iac is the idle air control valve. Let us know.

01-Chev Impala LS - stops (?)

Question From blueeagle65 on 01-Chev Impala LS - stops (?)

2001 Chevrolet Impala 3800 w/ 122,000 mi.: My car stops when running as if the key were switched off. I can bring the car to a halt, put in Park and start up immediately - no hesitation or delay. There is no obvious connection to the problem. It stops when cold or hot - in motion or idling - sometimes it fails to fail (like the almost three days it was with the mechanic). There are NO error codes or Check Engine lights. A container of gas additive was added after the first time this happened, so it isn't bad gas. It doesn't appear to be the fuel pump of fuel filter since it starts back up right away not like it has to re-prime. I'm the original owner and have not had a problem like this before.

Yesterday (Friday 5-30-08) the Ignition Control Module was replaced and everything was fine when I drove the car home, but this morning failed three times withim 3 miles when running an errand. No chugging, hesitating, etc. - the engine just stops running and the Battery light comes on. I can then coast to a stop, put the car in Park and immediately restart - no grinding, etc.

The problem started happening about a week ago about 5 miles from the end of a 110 mile trip with a couple hour stop half way.

Any knowledgable assistance would be appreciated by both my technician and myself - especially me since I'm stuck without my car. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

PS: Since the above posting the Crank Position Sensor was also replace to no avail

Response From dave284

There is only a few things that can cause problems without the pcm leaving a code, the fuel pump and the fuel filter, it wouldn't have to prime itself cause there is pressure already in the lines, and I have had a computer to fail with no codes to show, but the fuel system is where I would start.

Response From blueeagle65 Top Rated Answer

Changing the MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR seems to have fixed the problem. I've gone 90+ miles since changing it w/o having the car stop on me.
