2009 Jeep Patriot has paint chip that is rusting

Question From cjwinn on 2009 Jeep Patriot has paint chip that is rusting

Hello,

I recently purchased a 2009 Jeep Patriot 2.0L Sport FWD 4D.

It is pearl black (Color Code: PXR).

There is a small chip in the paint above the rear passenger side wheel well that is showing rust. I bought the appropriate color paint from Mopar, but I'm not really sure how to proceed.

I am concerned that simply painting over it will not resolve the issue entirely.

Do I need to "sand" away the rust or something?

If I don't, will the finish be bumpy there?

With winter fast approaching, I'd like to get this taken care of soon to prevent any issues. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

There is really nothing you can do yourself that won't look terrible. You will destroy the paint job. Take it to a professional and let him touch it up.

Response From cjwinn

Alright, I will take it in. I'm just looking to get this in good shape. Thanks for the tip!

2007 Jeep Patriot no power

Question From nhallstedt on 2007 Jeep Patriot no power

2007 Jeep Patriot, Limited version 4 cylinder 2.4 L.
180,000 miles, Front 2WD

Going 70 on interstate.
Lights on dash flash on, then turn off
Car suddenly decelerates
Pull off to side of the road, turn off car.
Turn it back on, drives normally with check engine light on.
Drive to school next day.
Come back out, try to start it up.
Nothing at all.
Switch out battery.
Slow to start, but starts and drives home.
Won’t start; no electrical power whatsoever.
When key is in on-start postitions, slight ticking/thumping is heard but only in the cab.
No dash lights come on when key is in on-start positions.
A day later, fuel gauge comes on and is at about 1/3 tank, flickering up and down without key in ignition.
Will not shift out of park with key in the ignition turned to on, with foot on brake.
Have tried taking off battery terminals and reinstalling multiple times.
Nothing happens at all, but there are sparks when battery is reconnected to leads.
Key fob controls do nothing.
Must manually unlock car door with key.

Response From Discretesignals Top Rated Answer

Also make sure your battery connections are clean and tight too.

What did you switch the battery out with?

Response From Hammer Time

Start with the obvious, have the battery charged and tested and once you have a known good battery, have the charging system tested.

manual to power windows...?

Question From Guest on manual to power windows...?

i have manual roll up windows now and manual locks on my jeep patriot is it possible to switch to power windows and locks and have them professionally installed or is this just a stupid thought?

Response From way2old Top Rated Answer

It is possible, but it may be cost inhibitive. It costs a lot more after the fact than when built. If all the wiring is in place, it is ma lot easier, but if not, wiring harnesses are quite expensive.

Transmission Issues

Question From Jstarr on Transmission Issues

I have a 2011 jeep patriot latitude 2.4L 82,000 mi
Around 70,000 miles transmission came out it was still under warranty so they put in a brand new transmission recently I've noticed if I'm driving on the interstate and if I'm going up hill when I give it gas feels like it's slipping. The other day I was going around a turn when I gave it gas I felt it slipping but some days it doesn't do it. It's been pretty cold here recently and I never let it drop below a half a tank. I use it for work to read meters in probably average 200-300 miles per week

Response From gsferraro

Hello,
this is a cvt transmission, this transmission really doesnt "shift" it changes ratios. When you drive these car with cvt transmissions they do feel funny as they are changing ratios, but If you feel there is a problem check the fluid level. How many miles are on the car now? Do have a check engine light on? Gary

Response From Jstarr

Gary,
Around 82,000 no check engine light.

Response From gsferraro

Hello,
I looked at a picture of this trans, it showed it had a filler tube. Is there a dipstick to check the fluid?
if there is check it make sure it full, look at the stick on both sides when reading fluid level. Gary

Response From Jstarr Top Rated Answer

No dipstick that I've found but they did mention when the 1st transmission was replaced if I messed with the fluid level it would void the warranty. Thanks for your help I appreciate it. Jud

Response From gsferraro

No dipstick, is there a filler tube? if theres an empty filler tube, the dipstick is a tool to check fluid level, they cant void your warranty for checking fluid level. If the filler tube has no dipstick, you would have to find a shop that has the "tool" to check your fluid. Gary
