Here is my problem, I hope someone can help:

I agreed to having transmission replaced on a 2008 Jeep Compass 4x4 with a CVT transmission due to a creaking noise, as the manager of shop insisted the transmission could do that kind of thing, and confirmed it would be a brand new transmission on warranty. We have been chasing down this creaking/squeeking noise for a year now, it's been in at least 5 times for this problem.On a sneaking suspicion from the last visit where they replaced the front lateral link on the right and the creaking stopped up there, I asked them to, while it's in, check the rear lateral links too while they're at it (which they should have done the first time, they said they did but insisted nothing was wrong). Prior to appointment day, I took the car to a different repair shop to get their second opinion on what they thought was wrong with the car. Verdict: nothing, bill = $0. Appointment day comes around, and they replaced BOTH rear lateral links due to 'creaking while going over bumps' (which was our problem, entirely), and THEN proceeded to (without calling to confirm given these new findings) replace our original transmission which I thought worked perfectly fine, with a *refurbished* one. Maybe they gave me a picture identifying my old transmission 'stamp' (a sticker with numbers on it), (which I was prepared to carry away myself and walk it back home at that point I was so mad), but thoughts on this are so welcome. I want my old transmission back, and how do I know forsure they've given me my old one? Or that they didn't damage it taking it off?
They had to scan it they said and send a report to chrysler - would this have identifying information that can't just be ripped off the part? They gave me a picture of the 'stamp' on it in the back, but couldn't they just switcheroo this? How can I ensure I get my old transmission back?

This is a very confusing post to say the least......on a few different points....

The 1st sentence in your post says you agreed to have the tranny change??

Is all this work under warranty??? I'm as$uming it is if they are sending off reports to Chry... If it is under warranty they are not going to put back in your old transmission just because you "think" it's still good. I didn't see the mileage anywhere but you now have a freshly rebuilt tranny, I don't know why you would want to put an old one back in....

The creaking noise is bizzare....Some of those noises can be really tough to track down, but not impossible....I'm not there & have never driven the vehicle to hear this noise so I'm not going to 2nd guess the tech but a noise that only happens going over bumps is usually suspension or frame related.....

Problems like these is where chas$is ears are worth triple their weight in gold....

They also have stated on the repair papers they gave me that the old transmission had failed, and that was the reason they were replacing it. It was absolutely wonderful that transmission. I'm the original owner of the car, I bought it brand new.
