94 acura vigor starter

Question From samg. on 94 acura vigor starter

I have one in my stall right now. I feel terrible asking because I work on cars for a living, but this is driving me nuts.

I got the starter out no problems, but I can not for the life of me get it pushed back in the area to save my life. I probably spent an hour at the end of the day trying just to get it it.

It's located under the intake so it's kind of a turd to get a look at anything....anyone here done one?

Response From Discretesignals Top Rated Answer

Are you installing the starter you took out or a replacement? You take the intake manifold brace out?

Response From samg.

It is a replacement, I have compared them and measured them length wise 2 times. The one I took out was a Mitsubishi and the one I'm installing is also a mits. They are identical (minus the dirst and oil).

I really can't understand for the life of me why this is giving me so much gruff.

And also, yes the brace is off. I took a few other hoses off to get to thw top bolt easier also.

Response From Discretesignals

Are you having problems trying to get it to sit flush in the hole or are you having problems trying to get it into the hole?

Response From samg.

My bad for not specifying, I just can't get it the nose of it in the hole, so I can swing the backside of it towards the engine to get it fully mounted.

If that made any sense.

Response From Discretesignals

I feel like a psychiatrist asking you all these questions.

You know how this is. It's one of those you spend hours screwing around with and you get frustrated. You come back the next day and it falls right in.

Response From samg.

I hope man. I like working on things other than gm sometimes, today not so much.

Thanks

Response From Discretesignals

I haven't done a Vigor starter, but do you remember which end came down first when you removed the older starter? Did the ass come down first or the nose?

You should try out a starter on a older Nissan Pathfinder. I agree that most, not all, GMs are mechanic friendly. I started out working on GM only, but currently working at a shop that does all makes. You get used to it.

Response From speed

the new envoys have a rediculous spot for an oil filter that i never fail to burn my hand on because of the stupid catalytic converter.....biggest PITA oil filter ever. hope you figure that starter out though it really doesnt sound fun

Response From Discretesignals

How about the oil filter on a Toyota 1mz-fe 3.0L. Customer is waiting after driving to the moon and back and the oil filter sits right under the exhaust manifold and can only be unscrewed from the top. Welders gloves comes in handy.

Response From samg.

If you're talking about the acadias, they do suck. I just put an engine in one last month.

I'm sure I'll get the starter in, just one of those days.

Response From speed

yes the acadias too, and yeah that filter looks like a PITA and sounds like it too
