1993 Hyundai Excel belt loud noise

Showing 3 out of 3 Posts
Question From saintlypaul on 1993 Hyundai Excel belt loud noise

Hi,

Just recently acquired a Hyundai Excel 1993 model car with very low km 47,000 so I thought the engine would be in good nik. But when I listen to the car when its idle the noise from the belt area is loud. Refer to you tube video for noise

Is it just me being paranoid as Im used to driving newer model cars that make little to no noise. Or is the noise indicating that their might be something actually wrong with a belt or pulley bearing somewhere.

Thanks
Paul

Response From Hammer Time

Sounds like there isn't much question that something is coming apart. You need to isolate is as tom suggested.

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

If you can't isolate that noise just take the belts off and spin the pulleys by hand. It's loud enough one or more should clearly show that they are no good,

Is the trans being lubricated with car in neutral?

Showing 3 out of 3 Posts
Question From lionrampant on Is the trans being lubricated with car in neutral?

Is the transmission being lubricated while in neutral with the engine running? I have a 1991 Hyundai Excel --still in great condition-- and think this has something to do with if the pump is run off the engine flywheel. I often roll the car backwards in neutral into a parking space.

Response From VANCJOHN66

internal pump is run off the input shaft of the transmission.. as long as the car is running the fluid is pumping

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

You don't say whether it's a manual or auto trans but it really doesn't matter. Rolling it around in neutral won't hurt anything, engine running or not.

96 Hyundai CV Joint Replacement

Question From Nell on 96 Hyundai CV Joint Replacement

G'day Everyone,

First time here. I'm going to have to replace both Right & Left CV Joints on 1996 Hyundai Excel. My Partner has a friend who says he can do it, hmm. Can you please help me with the basics that have to be done & roughly how much it would cost DIY compared to replacing the front axle or am I on the wrong track with replacing axle.

Thanks

Nell

Response From Sidom Top Rated Answer

Depending on the cost of the reman axles, that would probably be the best way to go. Here the price has come down so much that the price is close either way you do it and changing an axle is less work plus you get 2 new boots & grease.

Changing the boots only is labor intensive and while not real hard there are a few tricks to doing it, so if the prices is good, go with the axles...

Response From Nell

Hi Sidom,

Thanks for the information, one more thing. Does the condition of shock absorbers affect the CV Joints?

Response From Sidom

That car should have struts on the frt not shocks.

It won't affect it directly but a weak strut will allow the frt end to dip more as well as bounce more, so that is more in & out movement on the inner (plunge) joint & boot so indirectly over time I guess it could....

Brake Problem

Question From dipstick on Brake Problem

I have a 1988 Hyundai Excel. Recently the rear left hand wheel has started locking up while driving (very frightening), usually after 5 - 20 minutes. After squealing to a halt and pumping the brake a couple of times the problem rectifies itself and the car will go for anything between 5 minutes and a half an hour before it happens again. Any ideas?

Thanks

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

I think this uses rear drum brakes. Wheel cylinders can freeze up and parking brake (usually rear brakes) can hang up making that brake work harder or sometimes less if too hot. Spin the rear wheels - they should coast. Do a complete brake check up anyway with a complaint like that,

oil all over the engine

Question From echo85 on oil all over the engine

Hi, i know that this issue has been posted before, i have a 95 Hyundai excel 2.0 with over 200,000km. The other day i accidently left the oil cap off and drove 80km. When i got into the city i noticed lots and lots of smoke. I stopped driving the car immediately and left it to cool.

I have had the engine steam cleaned twice now before driving it any more than a block. The amount of smoke after 2 steam cleans is still overpowering. I cant drive more than 2km without it getting too much and needing to pull over. By the time i got home yesterday i vomited from the fumes.

I keep being told to suck it up and drive it and burn the oil off, is there anything else i can do to clean it? or does it sound like i have done something to my engine.

Thanks!!

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

No, the engine heat has to burn it off but it really should't take that long. You might have it inspected to see if it still has any active leaks.
