I have a 2001 Hyundai Elantra with 116,000 miles on it that recently started making an extra humming, whining like sound when you reach like 35mph that responds to the excelleration (goes up and down with the speed) there are no other problems other than this

Response From Guest

Sounds like a tranny problem.

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Guess: Belt or pulley bearings? Fluids full like especially PS and trans?

2010 Hyundai Elantra with Steering Wheel Vibration

Question From kingdomsa on 2010 Hyundai Elantra with Steering Wheel Vibration

I have a 2010 Hyundai Elantra blue with man trans which I bought new, and it has a significant vibration in the steering wheel when cruising above 50mph. It will put my hands to sleep after about 1/2 hour of driving. I had all tires/wheels force balanced - but no change. Funny thing is that, when I'm cruising and I push in the clutch and coast - the vibration goes away. I have an identical 2010 Hyundai Elantra GLS with auto trans - no vibration. However, dealer says there is no problem. Whatcha think?

Response From Hammer Time

If the problem goes away when the clutch is depressed, that points directly to a transmission problem.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Ditto with HT. 2010! You must still have a warranty and make them fix it or have a tech go for a ride or drive it with you to indicate NOT NORMAL which it isn't,

Response From kingdomsa Top Rated Answer

Thanks you for the replies - but can you lead me along on how the vibration going away when the clutch is depressed means it's a trans problem? If I'm coasting with clutch depressed and trans in gear, the trans is still turning, just the engine isn't connected - right?

Response From Hammer Time

When you depress the clutch, you have disengaged the input power to the transmission.

Question From unldefan on 2000 Hyundai Elantra

I have a 2000 Hyundai Elantra. A bolt from behind one of the tires came off as I was backing out of my driveway. This caused the tire to tip at an angle. I have gotten a new bolt for it, but I'm not sure about the torque for this bolt. Can anyone help me?

Response From DanD

What bolt? There are a lot of them behind a tire and there are also 4 tires. Sorry I don’t mean to be sarcastic but we can’t see your car and like I said there are a lot of bolts back behind a tire.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

What is the history here? Was there a collision in the history?

Put the bolt back and tighten to firm and take it for an alignment which it must need now and tell them the story and all you have done. I hope you got the right part and NOT just a hardware store part for this. The strength of the part is probably very important if it controls the wheel - whichever one it is. - T

Response From Guest

The bolt was ordered from the dealership for the other side. But no torque recommendation was given and thats what I am looking for. The bolt is on there at the moment but not to the right torque.

There was a collision on the passenger side previous to my ownership of the car. It was repaired but the bolt that replaced it may have rusted out or may not have been the correct bolt.

Response From unldefan Top Rated Answer

Well here I will show you. It is behind the front passenger side tire.

Question From Guest on 2001 hyundai elantra

I hooked up the batter cables wrong and lost the dome light, radio and clock. I have check fuse boxes under hood and under dash. they are ok. it has been suggested to check the max fuse but this car dose not have any. could it be a relay switch by any chance? thanks Ron

Response From way2old Top Rated Answer

How mdid you check the fuses? Looking at them is not a good test. You either need a test light or a multimeter to properly check the fuses.

Response From Guest

Dude tryed checking every fuses with tester. everyone is fine. wounder if it could be a relay swith?

2005 Hyundai Elantra Front End Damage

Question From kinnell on 2005 Hyundai Elantra Front End Damage

Accidently rear ended a car in front of me. Tried to swerve at the last second so hit the car in front of me at an angle. Link to pictures here:

So far there aren't any functional issues from what I can tell outside of lights and the hood not opening. Since the accident I only drove it home about 5 miles in city traffic before getting home. I did hear a slight scrape sound coming from the wheel well when i hit a speed bump.

Any ideas (ballpark) on what is potentially affected, and how much it would cost to fix (parts and/or labor) would be appreciated. Blue book is a little under $4k before the accident, wondering if it's worth fixing or just finding another comparable car at this point.

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

There's easily a couple thousand dollars damage there. You need to call your insurance company.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Stuff happens. Who said "Blue Book" value for this car? IDK - valuations are tough to pin down by a book but insurance sure will.

IMO, based on a very recent issue on another vehicle but rear bumper skin only no seen metal damage estimate was over $1,000 bucks, plus you can add time without vehicle while being repaired all depends on your insurance coverage.

Just your damage if all new parts IMO would total it if your book value is correct. Total means the value now as it sits plus all costs of damage exceeds the value of the vehicle. It doesn't mean it isn't worth fixing just a value calculation insurance will always choose the least costly way out.
Absolutely an insurance deal as damage to the other vehicle is on you too plus any consequential damage to the other party.

Stinks and really adds up fast for total headache.

Don't drive this anymore as you heard rubbing of tire and might need a new one or a pair if that's cut just wrong too!
