I replaced my fuel injectors....I tried to start my car and it wont cuz the fuel pressure wont build and fuel is leaking from my fuel injector by the feed end side by the fuel rail. Im gonna try to replace the O-ring....But if that isnt it...which i dont think it is, its a brand new injecotr and oring....then is the next step to look at my fuel rail?

Can anyone think of anything ive missed?

Was it leaking before? How many injectors did you replace? How many are leaking?

I don't remember this exact system but most injectors have a top & bottom O ring. It really sounds like you may have nicked an O ring on the installation. You need to see exactly where the leak is coming from, completely dry the injectors & have a helper turn the key on and CAREFULLY look down there to see where it's leaking from. Due to the pressure you'll have to look quick and be careful of the fuel spraying..... safety glasses would be a good thing

If just one is leaking, it's possible to have a bad injector. To confirm this just swap the injector only, no O rings with another non leaking injector, if the leak moves its a bad injector, if it stays then its an O ring.

Either the O ring got damaged or it's the wrong one. It's possible for the rail to leak but it would have to be in pretty bad shape to have been sealing before & now leaking just by changing the injectors.............

A little lube helps, carb clean, gas, silicone spray on the install. If the O rings were dry then it's very easy to damage them

Ok.....I tried a new O-ring, swapping injectors and also got a used fuel rail (came with a fuel pressure regulator too)

Same problem leaking from that same injector.....

Only thing i can think of is maybe too much pressure???? or something.....Im stumped

I am concerned on a clicking noise that the vehicle has been making for quite some time....I am able to hear it when the car is idling, it is not a loud noise therefore you need to be close to the source to hear it. I am submitting the picture so you can get a better understanding. The arrow is pointing at the source of the clicking noise which is the end of a hose along with a plastic plug going into the block. Let me know if you need more details or pics...

sitopons; The arrow is pointing to what I'm sure is a fuel injector. There is one for each cylinder. All they are is an electrical soleniod that opens and closes very quickly to allow fuel to spray into the cylinder. Some are noisier than others. Unless you are having a misfire condition, don't know that I'd be too concerned?

2000 Toyota Tacoma 2.4 litre 106,000 miles
My wife was going to work and the truck just quit running. It will start up and 30 seconds later it quits again. Ran a check on system said it was the crank sensor so replaced that. Checked the efi relay it says it is good. Checked all the fuses and they are good as well. Disconnected the computer reset it and same thing happened. Need some help please.

You have an intermittent problem so you can test components from now till doomsday and it won't tell you a thing because the problem isn't present at that moment.

You need to somehow determine which functions are dropping out at the moment it stalls. Everything else is just wild guessing and that can get very expensive.

A mechanic at the Toyota dealership has done the same thing.. It runs poorly but can not drive it like that. I have talked to many people and they say it might be a relay and a few have said it is the computer. If it is the computer something made it go bad so still have to find out what the problem is.

The computer controls the fuel pump. the fuel injectors and the ignition so you are saying the car ran without a computer? I seriously doubt that.

Thanks for your time ..When I run another test on it ..I will post again. I misunderstood what was said to me. Sorry I was told that one set of plugs to the computer were unplugged.. It was the set that makes the tach and guages work. If I could afford to take it to a shop thats where it would go.

Not sure if you're engine has it , but it could be the Idle Air Control Valve .

So, a few weeks ago, I took out the fuel injectors to test the resistance as part of cylinder misfire troubleshooting. However, after putting it back together, I've had continuous problems with the fuel injector on cylinder four. The small rubber o-ring at the top of the fuel injector keeps tearing either after I put it in, or when I start the car (unsure). I've broken 3 or 4 o-rings trying to get this right. I've tried lubricating them and not lubricating them. I've done it as gently as I can. But I keep getting fuel gushing out as soon as I start the car, and when I take it apart again the o-ring is shredded. I didn't have this problem with any of the others. Is there a special technique or something to make sure this doesn't happen? I wasn't able to find anything specifically about this elsewhere on the internet.

First make sure there are no pieces of the old one stuck in the fuel rail. The use a new O-ring and put a little silicone based grease on it, not regular grease. Make sure there is not dirt on either part.

I don't know why you removed them in the first place. they can be tested right in the car.

I have a 1994 toyota pick-up 4cyl. manual trans 22re engine. it has a slight hesitation on acceleration that I traced to a bad vaf sensor I have a analog scope and I can see slight opens in the trace, I am certain this is the problem, but I was wondering when you spray carb cleaner on the fuel injector o-rings and your oxygen sensor immediately goes rich and the tachometer jumps about 5 to 10 rpms is this enough to cause a lean missfire because spraying all my fuel injector o-rings causes the O2 sensor to go immediately rich and pick-up about 5 to 10 rpms and so does spraying the throttle body shaft. But my question is how much of a rpm increase would be enough to consider that there is a big enough vacuum leak to cause a miss-fire ?

Like HT said, you really need to make sure there aren't any vacuum leaks 1st. If you have any propane, you can run some of that into the throttle body while it's idling, if it smooths out you have a vacuum leak for sure...

I'm curious about what you mean by "opens" in the pattern. That should range from around 2 to 7 or 8 volts depending on the air door, It should be a smooth transition with no glitches {spikes} in the pattern but there shouldn't be any open spots in the trace. You could also scope the signal wire on the O2 make sure everything there is good since you do have a scope handy. It should be switching between 100mv & 8 to 900mvs.

Those old analog scopes are great. I love the pattern, they're so sharp & clear, way better than any DSO I've seen or used. Unfortunately you can't freeze, zoom, review, store, invert, use cursors, etc with an analog

The vaf basically has a normal scope pattern like when you read a normal maf on a scope except it has small opens in some parts of the trace that I think are causing it to run lean (but not certain). Also, it has what I call a lazy sensor because it will not start to work until you give it a burst of throttle body cleaner then it is normal, I can see it on the scope it also has normal transition times. What I do is take a video of the scope trace while the car is running with my cell phone then you can play it back and even stop the video and examine the trace pattern or even put in on your computer and examine it there. What I do is take a video of the scope trace while the car is running with my cell phone then you can play it back and even stop the video and examine the trace pattern or even put in on your computer and examine it there.
I love it! You took a cell phone and gave an analog scope a lot of the functionality of a DSO..... Man, great job.....lol................. I think HT is right on this one, you really need to be finding & fixing the vacuum leaks.. a quick check you can do for the O2 is take it up to 2500 rpm & hold for a bit. If the only problem is a vacuum leak then the O2 should start switching normally. If not & you can figure out a way to put cursors on that screen and get a 100ms split, I'll post the way to accurately test the O2 sensor. If you can post those images, I'd like to see them... If the opens are actually gaps in the pattern its possible it could be the equipment. If you were getting losses like that they should be showing up as spikes. One easy way to tell if the pattern is actually a bad one or something else it the cause, is to look for consistency in the bad spot. If it's random & not coineciding with the event it's probably something other than a bad sensor

I could not answer back my computer was not working for the last couple of days but you say the 02 sensor is reporting lean and correctly but when I squirt it with throttle body cleaner it starts to react normally going from lean to rich. And I do not know how to post the traces on the computer I just look at them on the cell phone. Anyway, I will not be working on this truck till the end of summer to hot here in Las Vegas, everyday here is over 100 degrees

That tends to support HTs vacuum leak theory. With a leak, the O2 will report lean just for the fact with the leak, the air/fuel mix is lean.

Squirting throttle body cleaner is similar to propane enrichment. The purpose of that test is to see if the O2 is capable of switching or not and in the proper time frame. When enriching if the O2 doesn't switch or can't switch from .075mv to .850mv in 100ms after the enrichment is removed then the sensor is bad and could be the cause. If it does switch and within the time division the sensor is good and some other problem is causing it stay lean (or stay stuck rich in overfueling cases).

It was a basic test but from the results, sounds like O2 are good & the problem is some other place.

Yea we're finally get our heat as well, it's been very late in coming but triple digits are finally here...........

That's not a lazy sensor. That is a sensor that is accurately reporting a lean mixture and doesn't read rich until the engine is artificially enriched. Those are all indications of a system running too lean which we already knew because you have confirmed vacuum leaks. Doesn't sound like any mystery to me. What are you still looking for?

Any RPM increase at all is a sign of a unacceptable vacuum leak. You can't even start to look for a miss if you have known vacuum leaks. You have to resolve all of those and then see what you have then.
