2006 Kia Sedona 3.8L v6 check engine light questions

Question From rpvtech on 2006 Kia Sedona 3.8L v6 check engine light questions

Just took my Kia Sedona to the dealer because the check engine light came on. Their diagnostics found a hole in the air intake hose. They also recommended a cleaning (of the fuel injectors, I suppose) to remove carbon because the fuel mixture was off (lean?) because of the hole. After replacing the hose, they said the light could still come back on without the cleaning. I had the hose replaced and the oil changed, but the light is still on. My questions are:
Will this problem correct itself after some time?
If not, is there a fuel additive that can correct this?
Did they just not turn the light off after changing the hose?
Any other insights will be appreciated!

Robert

Response From Hammer Time

If the light was on when you drove away, then they likely never cleared the codes. If you have an Autozone or Advanced auto in your area, they will clear them for free. If the light comes back on after that, go back and have them read the code and post them here.

Response From rpvtech

I really appreciate the answer. I did not know I could have it dealt with for free.

But is the carbon a problem and do I need to clean it or have it cleaned?

Thank you so much.

You can get the code for free but it still has to be diagnosed. The people at the parts stores aren't techs so they would just be giving it their "best guess" on your nickel...

Your orignal problem could've set a P0171,P0174, lean bank 1 & 2. A guess may have got you 4 O2 sensors costing hundred of dollars but you had a tech who was familiar with the system check it out and found a hole in the air intake....

If you want to diag it yourself & have the tools to do it & can follow directions, then there is a lot of experienced techs here who will help you out or you may just want a little more info on the problem, they can help with that to....but don't go down the parts tossing road.....It may sound like a good deal but can wind up being very expensive & frustrating.

Response From Hammer Time

I don't know what you have for mileage but induction cleaning is a needed maintenance every 50K or so but to go as far as to say the check engine light will come back on is unlikely and it wouldn't be immediate.

Fuel injector rails & injectors for 2004 Kia Sedona 3.5L V6

Question From myjadedheart on Fuel injector rails & injectors for 2004 Kia Sedona 3.5L V6

I am helping a friend who asked me to do a tune up on her Kia. In removing the plenum I had to remove several wiring harnesses, and in removing one it had a wire clip that had to be removed to undo it. I told my 10 yr old to hold his hand right under it because it will go flying. He holds his hand there till the last possible second and pulls away. Well this clip went flying into the engine and right into the worst possible place! An open valve. Yes I am certain it's in there. Fairly certain it hasn't gone past the valve, but can't know until I get the lower intake removed and to do this I have to remove the fuel rails (yes, 2) and the six injectors. Here's where the problem comes in. I don't know newer cars well enough to have the confidence to do this removal and am looking for someone who can give me more detail on how to do it (Heck, I'll even give you my number and talk more in detail about it). Give me the older cars any day!

Anyway, how do you remove the fuel rails and injectors on a Kia Sedona LX 3.5L V6? Need more detail? Just ask. Will be checking in frequently

Thanks,
Tori

Response From Hammer Time

Have you tried fishing a small, telescoping magnet down there?

Response From myjadedheart

Yes, but unfortunately the wire is not magnetic.

Response From Discretesignals

If you can touch it, take something sticky such as tape on the end of a screw driver and see if you can get it to stick on there. You could also use a vacuum cleaner with a hose taped to the snout and try to suck it out of there.

Response From myjadedheart

AWESOME FREAKING IDEA!! Why didn't I think of that?!

Response From Hammer Time

Question closed as solved.............

Response From myjadedheart

Update: vacuuming didn't work, but if I had tried it in the beginning I believe it would have worked perfectly. I ended up removing the fuel rails and injectors, several wiring harnesses and the spark plug to the corresponding piston. Couldn't find it stuck in the valve, or on the piston so decided to blow compressed air down the vavle and then down the plug hole. Finally came loose from its hidey hole. Between using a homemade magnetic probe (tested and reinforced for durability before going down the plug hole) and other thick gauge wire hooks, hubby and I were able to fish (pun intended) the clip out with fishing line and also found a split washer down there too. We brought them up back thru the valve.

Hindsight IS 20/20! I realized once it was way too late and the clip was already down in the chamber, I have a set of long forceps that would have reached it in my first aid kit. What good is a first aid kit if you don't use it in emergencies?! Lesson learned. I now have a pair in my tool chest.

All in all, a huge learning experience. To anyone in a similar situation in the future, my advice: walk away, breathe and think! And don't let any "well meaning hands" anywhere NEAR your damn engine!

Thanks to all that helped, much appreciated.

Glad you got it. Long done with any of this but it happens. Forever stuffing paper towels in places so something can't get in it. Then there's an assortment of grabber things both magnetic and the things that protrude out 3 prongs and grab things.

Not everything is going to work. Glad it did,
