when I first start car in the morning it gets way to much fuel and runs poorly, after about a minute and a half and a couple taps on the accelerator it clears up and is drivable but still seems to run a bit rich, it is fuel injected (throttle body type) it gets poor milage for a small car also ?

I have a 87 Chevy 4X4 305ci full size blazer. About 4 months ago the only way I could get my blazer started was to prime the carb. I was told to put a new fuel regulator on the carb, did that, and the blazer started up everytime. Now 4 moths later I'm having the same problem, if I prime the motor by pouring gas in the carb, it'll start. Once I shut it off, I have to prime it again. Any ideas what it could be this time?

I'm sorry, this blazer doesn't have a carb, it has a fuel injected throttle body. I just put a new fuel regulaor in this throttle body, started right up for a month, now it won't til I prime it with gas.

Check your fuel pressure. Sounds like it could be a fuel pump. The throttle body is probably the best FI system out there, farily simple.

The fuel pump can cause alot problems. I have seen the pump act up meny different ways.

When you turn the key to "Run", not "Start", can you hear the fuel pump run? May take a helper with his/her head near the tank. The pump runs to build pressure ASAP. I think it's controlled by a relay. Just an idea, maybe someone can verify me on this?

Maybe this will help? Looks like the ECM controls the pump, but I just GOTTA believe there is a relay to handle the current.

I had this same problem 4 months ago. Put in a brand new fuel pump and assembly, new relay, and a new fuel regulator. I found out the wiring had a short in it somewhere between the relay and pump harness. I ran new wires from the fuse box to an off and on switch. When I start the truck, I trun on the switch, I can hear the pump run, then I turn the key to start. I by-passed the fuel relay, is that ok? It ran for two months fine.
