Question From buik on 1993 Buick no spark

Car was running rough, replaced plugs&wires, fuel filter, cleaned fuel/air system and still ran rough. Now will not start not getting spark

Response From nickwarner

does it get injector pulse?

Response From buik

Dont know -how do i check the injector pulse

Response From Hammer Time

You plug a noid light tester into the injector plug and crank the engine. It will flash if all signals are there.

Response From buik Top Rated Answer

I will check it , can you tell me possible causes to my problem for both a good test result and a bad, I will be in my friends garage and will not have access to the forum someone i know suggested the ignition module as a possible cause, im trying to keep cost down and that is a part i cant try and return if it is not the cause

Response From Hammer Time

No, we aren't going to start diagnosing every possible scenario. Follow the testing requests and that will tell us where to go next.

Question From Guest on 85 buick riviera

Does anyone know where the fuel filter is located on a 1985 Buick Riviera?
Also any ideas on diagnosis for engine stalling at stop lights (or any stopping). However has no problem starting or driving if you can get it past the initial start and into drive b4 it dies.

Response From Guest

I would check the IAC ( idle air controll ) small silver size of a d cell battery --2 screws to remove ( poss tamper proof (( small tit in center )) screws ) if replaced will have to relearn ecm --drive above 35 mph warmed up ( closed loop ) also clean inside cav when iac is removed--remove air intake hose and take note of small slit in round tube ( throttle body ) before the buttterfly plate also slit on outher side of butterfly --have friend hold gas to floor to observe slits --clean with card spray cleaner and tooth brush..

Response From DanD Top Rated Answer

If this Riv. is an injected car the fuel filter is under the car attached to the fuel feed lines; if it’s still carburetor the filter is in the carb just behind the fuel inlet line.
As for why it’s stalling; well it would be like writing a novel trying to touch on all of the possibilities.
Take the car in and have someone diagnose it for you; ask for a written explanation. Then post back here with their findings before you authorize the repairs, maybe we can tell if what they find is feasible?

91 buick skylark stalls

Question From pen1255 on 91 buick skylark stalls

91 buick skylark, 2.5 liter, starts and runs fine for a short distance then stalls, restarts fine and will stay running in park or neutral but when you put it in drive or reverse it stalls immediately...if you let it sit about an hour then it runs fine again for a short distance, then repeats. Clueless here as to what the problem might be, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

pen; Since it runs okay when cold, I'm suspecting a lean condition or an IAC problem. When the engine is cool, the PCM adds fuel since this is fuel injected. Running rich during the warm up time can mask a vacuum leak or partially plugged filter. I'd recommend checking the fuel filter, first. Could be that simple. Check the engine for vacuum leaks after it's warm. Listen for a hissing sound. The IAC (idle air control) can become dirty and sticky, over time. It's very common for this to happen. The IAC opens and closes (electrical solenoid) to allow air into the system to control idle speed. If the other checks come up negative, have the injection system cleaned. This should be done every 30-40K miles, anyway, so you can look at this as maintenance. If nothing else, you should notice an improvement in fuel economy and performance. (MotorVac fuel system cleaning is best, and should be available at most independent shops or the dealer).

Response From pen1255 Top Rated Answer

Appreciate the advice. Do you happen to know where the fuel filter is located on it, been under the car with a small floor jack and was unable to locate it.

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

Should be on the driver's side, ahead of the rear tire. (I hope) Some are closer to the tank.

2001 buick regal bogging down

Question From bornbilly on 2001 buick regal bogging down

My 2001 buick regal is bogging down and not accelerating. It starts and runs but takes about 5 minutes to get up to 50 mph. At an idle, it sounds like it is being muffled when I give it gas. It seems to shift fine and the transmission fluid level is good. I checked the air filter and changed the fuel filter so far and there is no change in performance. Is there a module that could be bad or the catylatic converter possible stopped up? It just seems like it is not getting gas. Please help.

Response From dmac0923

any check engine lights on?

throttle linkage free moving/full range of motion?

all four wheels free? no brakes hanging up?

Response From bornbilly Top Rated Answer

There are no lights on and everything seems to be free moving...linkage and brakes.
I did notice when I rev it up in park, it puts out some white smoke...

Response From Tom Greenleaf

To add to dmac's suggestions and do check for exhaust restriction. Easy way - put a "T" on actual intake manifold vacuum so device it operated is still enabled and should read about 18 at idle and with no load, read again at about 2,000 RPM. Should read close to the same. If it drops at high idle it suggests an exhaust restriction. Sometimes it's not the converter but the muffler sometimes gets rusty inside - not so common but happens,

1990 buick century 3.3 6 cylinder hard to start idles fine dies when give it gas

Question From mickeysue71 on 1990 buick century 3.3 6 cylinder hard to start idles fine dies when give it gas

We have replaced fuel filter, fuel pump and sender assembly, spark plugs, added fuel injector cleaner, unplugged torque converter connector. It is hard to start, idles fine, but when you give it gas it dies. What do we check next

Response From Discretesignals

What is the fuel pressure?

Is the check engine light on? If so, jumper A to B in the diagnostic connector and count the flashes of the check engine light.

Response From mickeysue71 Top Rated Answer

The check engine light is not on. Do not know fuel pressure

Response From Discretesignals

You should connect a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail test port and verify you have good fuel pressure when the problems are occurring. Fuel pressure on that should be 40-47 psi. Just because you replaced the pump, without verifying it was the fault in the beginning, doesn't mean you have good fuel pressure now. That would be a place to start.
